Was this the "Thank you for submitting your on-line application to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. We look forward to reviewing your application!" email? Or is there another application complete email?

There's another email that reads:

"CONFIRMATION OF COMPLETE APPLICATION

We have received all materials required in support of your application to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. "

I received it two days ago.

Have any MSTP applicants received a "complete" email yet?

quick question... is there any place on the secondary application that I can talk about my research experiences other than in the essays? I didn't get paid for my work so it wasn't employment, and I basically "volunteered" in the lab for a year before I started getting class credit for it. Can I list it in the volunteering section? And if I do, what dates should I include? (only the time before I started getting class credit vs. the entire time I worked in the lab)

I would enter that as a volunteer experience, using the dates that you didn't get credit, just to be safe.

btw, just submitted:xf:

Just got a complete e-mail. Sent in the secondary 7/13. Wow, these things take a while! About a month (or I guess 3 weeks processing time)... is that normal for most schools?

I submitted my secondary July 7 and got the complete email on August 1, so while this timeline isn't normal for most medical schools, it seems normal for Hopkins.

I got the confirmation of complete email, but I know for sure AMCAS has not received my LOR yet. Auto reject?

Damn. You edited before I got to make a FAP joke. I wouldn't assume anything just yet. It might just be that they don't review letters until post interview. I know some schools do that.

So Johns Hopkins does not accept AP credit for Bio at all? Not even if you take upper electives?

No credit for AP Bio, but they will accept credit for AP chemistry.

when do they start letting people know who got rejected and who is getting interviews

why does it take JHU so long to mark people as "complete"? was there something we were supposed to mail in?

I have a question about the "no hard return" rule. Does that mean we can only use one paragraph, even when listing our academic awards?

Here's what I read online:

Hard return - An ending of a line that begins the next line or paragraph. To make a hard return press the enter key on the keyboard. In the picture to the right, is an example of what a hard return looks like with formatting marks enabled. Hard returns looks like a paragraph mark, which resembles a backwards P.

Soft return - A soft break or soft return is a carriage return automatically inserted by the software program usually because of a word wrap. Soft returns allow you to continue typing without having to press the return key manually at the end of each line. In Microsoft Office programs and text programs, you can enter a soft return by pressing and holding down the Shift key and pressing Enter at the same time. The soft returns look like an arrow that goes down and then points to the left, much like the arrow seen on the enter key.

So does this mean we can start new paragraphs with soft returns by pressing Shift+Enter?

Hey all - question on the secondary app I was hoping one of you could answer. In the "Cumulative GPA" section of the "Educational Background" page there are 3 options:
1. undergrad GPA
2. postbac undergrad GPA
3. grad GPA
For the undergrad GPA, does anyone know if they are wanting the number straight from the AMCAS app from our 4-year institution? Or when they say "undergrad" do they mean the GPA from our 4-year institution, our post-bac institution, and any college classes we may have taken while in high school *combined*? Having a hard time figuring out what to put for this part. Any help would be much appreciated - thanks!

Since it didn't say cumulative, I just calculated my 4-year undergrad. It wasn't calculated on my AMCAS; it only appeared cumulatively with my post-bac average. *shrug*

Yeah...I was thinking about doing that. I wonder if they want me to include the college course I took when I was 14 years old...still can't believe AMCAS requires that.

I'm in the same boat. I took a few college courses when I was in high school. I didn't include these classes when calculating my GPA, so it's a little different than what is listed on AMCAS.

You're killing today... Yale, Northwestern and Hopkins all in the same 24 hours? Careful you don't combust.
 Today has been pretty much the best day in a long time. Here's moving some of my luck to you! :luck:

Fo'serious. I've become very familiar with your avatar today. Good going, chap! And to many more... 🙂

How long does it send JHU to mark your application as complete?? Sent in my secondary apps (along with LOR that was designated beforehand) on July 26 but still haven't heard anything...

Cannot believe I used hard returns on one section!!! It didn't save my app when I did it the first time, so I rushed to redo the section. What a waste of money over such a careless mistake. 👎

That doesn't make any sense. 1) It saved my app with hard returns and 2) you should write it in a word processor that saves and then paste it over.

Does anyone know when Johns Hopkins begins its interviews? What about MD/PhD interviews? Thanks!

First MD/PhD interviews are 9/22-23, continuing every week until 10/13-14.

I have community college credit for some of my pre-reqs. Am I wasting my money by submitting the secondary app? I am otherwise qualified (non-trad, 4.0 post-bacc GPA, 3.7 overall, 35 MCAT). I visited the campus 2 years ago before I decided to try for medical school. It's been a motivation to do well for the past 2 years.

you are not wasting your money, you should definitely still apply

The MSAR says CC credit is not accepted for JHMS. Do you know any students who got in with CC on their transcript? If there is a 0.01% chance, I will apply, but not if I'm going to get auto-rejected.

I will confirm this on Monday, but I'm 99.9% positive that we accept community college credit
