Very much enjoyed my visit on Friday despite the bad weather! I think beyond all the stuff you see on the website like the Integrated Curriculum, TBL and Capstone Project the biggest thing that stands out is just the atmosphere and culture of the school...really impressed with that more than anything! Plus I'd love to take Anatomy with Dr. Bee!

I think that it is just strange that some people have been rejected, some have interviewed, some have been put on hold, and others, myself included, submitted months ago but have not heard a thing. You would think that once the initial review is complete you would either fall into one of 3 categories: interview, hold, reject.

The admissions gods at Oakland probably have a method to their madness.

Try not to worry too much about it. 🙂

Exactly what I'm thinking too!

It was hard for me to patient too. I think the beautiful thing about OUWB is that they are really adopting the holistic review process, so perhaps that's why it's taking so long to get a response from the "initial eval".

someone earlier in the thread hypothesized that the chances of getting an acceptance might be about 50% after interviewing (assuming they give acceptances = 3x the amount of first year spots)? i know that the calculations might be hard b/c we have so little data (no msar or usnews) but that seems really high...

There's really no way to guess what this year's acceptance percentage will be because we're looking at a completely different situation. Last year, many applicants turned OUWB down because there wasn't a class of students to ask questions, to gauge the community, to get advice from... now, we exist and alongside the admissions team and faculty and staff... I wouldn't be surprised if we are more selective this year.

Trust the adcom and stay enthusiastic about the school. If you get an acceptance, great! If not, then you'll probably receive other acceptances from places that are a better fit for you, anyway.

They've given out 183 interviews . . . 237 left (as of 9/14). That's actually quiet a lot left . . .

If I submitted 8/8 and haven't heard a single peep from them, is the consensus that no word is better than being put on hold?

I know this gets asked a lot, I'm just a very insecure applicant (exceptionally low GPA) and I hate the waiting game. Seems like an awesome school!

what do you guys think the diff is between the adcom member interview and the physician interview? do both advocate for you?

is there any way we can find out who our interviewers are beforehand?

I feel the same way, I was complete on 08/08 and have not heard a thing from them. Oakland looks fantastic and I hope I am still getting considered! I have been small pooled at three schools so far and have not heard any more from them either...sigh 🙁

I have been complete here since 8/4 with no updates..

I've sent an e-mail to adcom :scared: and they replied

Thank you for your interest in the OUWB School of Medicine. Your application file is under review. We conduct a holistic review of each application file which takes a bit of time so I apologize for the wait. We will let you know as soon as we have made a decision as to whether you will be invited to interview.

Christina Grabowski

Sigh....

I wish I will be able to find out soon as well!!!
It's so scary to think that more than half of invitation is gone already.

GL to everyone who's still waiting in the dark, including me!

Both interviewers are your advocates. Sometimes both are physicians. It all depends on who is available.

There is no way to find out who your interviewer is until the day of.

To everyone stressed out on the forum about the number of interview invites left -- keep in mind that I didn't even submit my secondary until December and I'm happily here at OUWB. As long as there are interview invites left and you haven't received a rejection, then you're still in the game. Plus, they increased the number of invites given last year slightly toward the end of the cycle... so that's also still a possibility!

OUWB is the key to my lock.... just sayin'

The Physician at Beaumont probably fills out a form assessing what the school is looking for, probably things like maturity, professionalism, medical knowledge, interpersonal skills, specific questions the committee may feed them to ask etc. The adcomm member will probably be the one to vouch for you when it comes down to the vote. I have no actual idea, other than that someone told me their physician interviewer prefaced the interview by stating that all they do is fill out a paper in order to lower the stress level of the interview. Small school environment, gotta love the he-said she-said.

Don't post speculations man. It's not conducive to pre-med neuroticism health. 🙂

It just so happens that my physician interviewer was a member of the adcom. So, you never know. It's up chance.

Also, a side note for future posters/users of this thread... Amanda.eleven has so graciously taken time out of her busy M1 schedule to answer our questions. Please read the thread's previous pages before asking a question. :luck:

The first interviewer or the second? I know there are physicians on the adcomm, but the vibe I've gotten from a number of students is that the second interviewer is typically not a member of the adcomm. Either way, both interviews are meaningful and weighted or else they wouldn't conduct both of them. And there aren't a ton of pre-meds at this school and it's really an awesome community and the majority of us are transparent with each other and try to help each other out as much as possible, obviously there is always misinformation, but there are definitely reliable sources out there as well.

Got the bad news about an hour ago. Rejected. I was complete 7/10 and hadn't heard anything from them until today...I guess I can finally close the door now.

awww sorry to hear that panser, maybe next time ? :xf:

Completed yesterday but already anxious for an interview. Beautiful and laid back campus. Spent four years here already, hoping to spend the next four here as well 👍

Wow, there's a ton of anxiety here on this thread. Being a re-applicant, let me just say that patience is a virtue. I know what the feeling is like to be on hold and/or get rejected at a place you really want to go to, and you just can't predict or expect anything to happen in this application process. For me personally, I've been wanting or expecting an interview invite at some of in-state schools like FSU and UCF really badly but it's not happened while I got an interview at OUWB when I did not expect it. So just stay patient, don't bank all your hopes on one school, and when you least expect it, something good will happen!

Agreed. I know a lot of people are interested in this school due to all the positive reviews (me being one of them 🙂) but lets just settle down. If the school likes us, they will invite us for an interview. When that time comes, we can all celebrate and be happy. No use being all crazy now, just not worth it. Meanwhile, focus on other schools if you have invites from them and I assure you you will fall in love with that school just as much. Good luck guys

Staring at the medical school from Kresge library while tryin to study for a neuro exam. Maybe they will just wave me over and skip the interview?👍

Probably not 🙁

Anyone interviewing on October 7? If so, introduce yourself to me! I'm coming to lunch and along for the Beaumont portion of the day. 🙂

Anyone out there still waiting on hearing *anything* from Oakland U.? I'm REALLY interested in this school but no status change or anything (no hold etc) on the website since end of July.

Best of luck to all with interviews and who have interviewed!

I have also heard nothing.

Same here. Been complete since early August and not a peep.

I'm sure if you haven't heard a peep you're probably in the running for an interview because they did reject some fairly quickly.

I really think they're all about the holistic review and using the review as a metric to how well they think a student will FIT their school. The word FIT was used countless times by Dean Grabowski on interview day as in the interview day was a chance for them to see how well we would fit their school and vice versa. I think it's a good formula and they have put together a great setting but it is tough to make decisions when you have 4K applicants vying for 75 spots.

Thanks for helping us stay positive! 4000 is a lot, but it's better than the 14,000 of some schools! I wish I could write them an extra letter or email or something, but I've read that they don't want to get anything like that from applicants. Nothing to do but keep waiting!

Yeah, this process is frustrating and being a re-applicant, I've learned at this point to just stay positive and make the most of the opportunities you do get and that you simply can't predict which school will give you those opportunities. About the updates, I'm not really sure what they want pre-interview. They told us that we could give them updates and that later in the cycle we could even write a letter of intent if we're hanging on the waitlist and want to make clear that we want to be there. I personally wrote a thank you/update letter after my interview to them and they added it to my file.

Ha, well, here's to hoping we're not getting the silent rejection treatment, and we're being considered for interviews instead

Congrats sector! Giving the rest of us some hope!

Complete a long time ago, Recieved hold email tonight. Better than a rejection, not as great as an interview. Hoping for the best still, so many great reviews and seems like a great place.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly does the hold email say/mean? I'm complete and awaiting a status update of any type right now.

Can't believe that decisions will start rolling out here in a few weeks.

Looking back... I interviewed so long ago it seems, but I still remember it like it was yesterday.

October 15th is a Saturday, so I guess we won't hear till Monday then. Unless they start calling on Friday.

Good luck everyone!! :luck:

CodeBlu, so can we assume that if you're accepted to OUWB on October 15th, you're going to withdraw your app from all other schools at that date? Actually, on my interview day, they said the first acceptances would be late October/beginning of November so this scenario isn't going to happen on October 15th.

I won't withdraw from the other schools I've interviewed at. Since I have an insatiable curiosity to know the outcome at those other schools. But I won't be spending any more money on interviews if that's what you're alluding to.
😀

interview invite!

OOS

and I believe its because I sent them an update letter about 2 weeks ago, just in case anyone was thinking about it

good luck on this crazy process everyone!
