I don't like to speak poor of another school. Wayne is an excellent institution, but it's not for me. I had large classes in undergrad, and yes they were awesome, but when I got to my advanced physiology and my advanced biochem classes that were less than 100 people, sometimes max 50... it's much more interactive.

Wayne has an ENORMOUS class size... which doesn't seem to be a good fit with me. Although, if it were the only school that would accept me, I would gladly go.

A few friends of mine have had poor encounters with their admissions office. Rudeness, and being treated like a second class citizen is just unacceptable in ANYTHING you do. Regardless if an applicant has been successful or not, they should be treated with respect. One day this person you're being rude to, may be caring for you or your family.

Most schools I've interacted with have been AMAZING in terms of enthusiasm and respect. OUWB is one example. Hence, why I've been singing their praises. Respect is a two way street, and I don't want to be just another numbered med student 3390078987 at Wayne State. When I can be number 13/75 (HouseMD reference there 😉 ) at OUWB. 😀

Good luck in your future endeavors.
Thanks for the thorough response 👍

I had a great experience at my interview. Everyone involved was very nice and friendly: other interviewees, current students, admissions staff and the interviewers.

Learned lots of small things about the school that makes it seem like a great place to study, and the facilities dedicated for the students are so plentiful!

Would love to have the opportunity to return. There were no curveballs or anything during the day but I'll be glad to help any future interviewers.

So my interview is coming up this Friday, which is totally exciting! If you are going to be there, share a cab with me from the airport hotels! I asked this before, and then forgot to check my PMs, but this time, Im on it! 🙂

Howdy SDNers,

Just wanted to share some info for those of you who (like me) were complete a while back. I was complete 7/24 according to the status page. In the course of asking another question today, I was told that my application had completed screening, even though there has been no status posted to my page. Now, to me, this means (hopefully) good news, and they are just making their way through the invites or bad news, and they are just waiting to send out a bunch of rejections. Not sure, but was told the status would be updated at some point with 1) hold for re-review, 2) invite, 3) reject.

So, just wanted to let you all know that even if you think you have a "slow" screener like some folks posted before, there is a chance a human being has already looked at your application. I'm still crossing my fingers for some good news as I really like this school. Congrats to everyone with invites so far and good luck to everyone waiting!

I was complete 6/23 and still haven't heard anything!

Right with you! II this morning, complete 7/26. OOS, 32, 3.57

when do you think they'll start to give admissions offers? they've been interviewing for a while so...

No school is allowed to give out any offer before 10/15.

Edit: I stand corrected...thanks CodeBlu! Regular decision tunnel vision. Good luck to all!

is the squirrel road address the one i should enter into google maps to try to find a hotel nearby (hopefully that I can walk to campus from...or has anyone tried the ones with "free" ($20) shuttle service to campus?

You should check the website for the accommodations list.

Squirrel road address is fine.

Congrats! That first interview invite feels incredible 👍

thanks you guys! good luck on yours too!

how much was everyone's cab from the airport to hotel or campus? i can't drive so the rental car is not an option for me 🙁 i'm hearing $80 + tip...there's gotta be a cheaper way...

I've decided it's probably better to stay at a hotel since I'm unsure where I'd sleep (the floor the couch...) with a student host.

I'm down to three hotel choices: either the Courtyard by Marriott Bloomfield Hills/Pontiac OR the Candlewood Suites OR Homestead Studios (apparently this one is walkable to and from campus?). Any thoughts?

courtyard marriott is really nice, and cheap too with the ouwb special. It's not walkable though.

Homestead is walkable and there are currently students staying at the homestead cause OU overbooked their student housing.

did everyone's interview day end promptly at 4:15? my ideal flight out is that evening after my interview which is cutting it kind of close, how long of a time should i give myself to get to DTW? i have no idea what the traffic is like and that would rush hour...

How much is it from Wayne to Oakland via cab? I'm interviewing at both on 10/10 and 10/11, respectively.

Also, can I camp outside of Oakland without having to pay for a hotel? 😛

Thanks Oaklandguy! so would you say that Homestead is noisy/always has a party going on? I'm tryign to get a good night's sleep but the fact that it's walkable helps A LOT with me.

Sixty dollars...? Ouch. Ok, now officially recruiting MORE people to share my cab from the Ramada inn at the airport lol. But for serious...I should just rent a car then? Code Blu, speak.

Also, I could have sworn that you had like 6k posts a week ago... have you been busy?

Oakland isn't exactly a party school...

P.S. still a 10 minute walk to the library, but you can see the campus from your hotel room. Also there will be TONS of walking during the interview day so wear appropriate shoes.

It typically takes about 70 minutes without rushour traffic so I would probably say at least 1.5 hours give or take. It seems as though they've gotten people out around 4:15 to 4:30 each time.

Hahahaaa, no I had 6000 about 2.5 weeks ago.

Yeah you should rent a car for sure.

congrats hiyaman, maybe we can schedule our taxis from the airport together?

also, i'm going to fly in the afternoon before my interview and tryign to decide if it would be too much of a rush/too hurried to leave the night of my interview -- there's only 1 flight (at 7:45 pm, so I think that actually gives enough time to get to DTW if the interview day ends at 4:15 or 4:30 but it's a tight one). Maybe it'd be better if i stayed an extra night? i'd just have to pay another day for the hotel. what did most other ppl do? sorry it's my first one so i'm just very caught up in the details, haha.

***also, is it true that the interviewer doesn't know our grades and mcat? perhaps this is only 1 of the interviewers? in relation to this, i thought it was open file -- i guess it's closed?
