Question for anyone accepted: did you get a background check email about a week after you were accepted?

No problem! That was a really quick turnaround time for you (< 1 month)! I am really anxious about hearing back from OUWB - I interviewed on 1/20 and am worried they passed me over... Would you mind sharing your stats with me? Not a problem if you would rather not though - or you could PM me. I would really appreciate it!

Good luck to all those waiting! Keep my fingers crossed for all of ya! For those who might get passed over, I was just checking out MDApps and it seems like almost all the accepted OUWB students have multiple acceptances right now so there's definitely bound to be movement come April and May; they can't overaccept so I'm sure space will open up when that movement occurs.

I thought the adcom meet every other Wednesday ? If so then they should be meeting this upcoming Wednesday. Fingers crossed for some good news.
 
Anyone going to Second Look Day? I already booked my tickets (I'm from out of state), but I don't dig the crazy-high shuttle/taxi prices. Anyone wanna share a cab/rental car or something?

To any of the current students: Can anyone give me a ride from Detroit Metro Airport? I'll pay you top dollar (gas expense+compensation for time/trouble).

Someone please help me. I'm just a poor boy from a poor family. Thanks!

when are you flying in? I am flying in from cali on Wednesday
 
To anyone waiting for a decision, the last 2 committee meetings will be 3/7 and 3/21 (this is straight from Dean Grabowski).

To admitted students looking for a ride from the airport -- I'd offer but I have an AMWA event that goes until 9PM... maybe call/email admissions to ask if they could ask current students if people are available to help out!

Thanks for the update! Does that mean for those of us waiting that we will definetly hear something by March 21st.
 
Did they ever say how the waitlist will work... hard-ranked, soft-ranked, whether we'll get to learn our position if we end up on it? Not sure if this was said on interview day and I missed it or not (or Amanda, if you know?).

Last year, I believe we were unranked and I don't see a reason for them to leave this system since it gives waitlisted students another opportunity to show that they are truly a good fit for the school [when I was on the waitlist I sent in an update letter that I suspect helped].

As always, if I hear differently I'll post something.

Thanks Amanda for all these great updates! There's some comfort knowing the dates of the final committee meetings and knowing that we'll be hearing a decision before the end of march.
 
I live really close to DTW airport and I'm planning on attending both days of second look, so I could give up to 4 people a ride to OU on Thursday morning and back to the airport Friday evening if need be. PM me if interested.

Unfortunately, I work til 9 pm on Wednesday night about 2 hours from home, so I can't help people out with rides on Wednesday night :/
 
What is the reputation of Beaumont as a teaching hospital? I know it has a strong reputation in SE mich but what about nationally? I would like to leave the midwest for residency and am very interested in OUWB.

also, in regards to OUWB social aspect, do students spend time socializing while not talking shop? ie going to the pubs, intramural sports/ local sports, trips?

Thanks for any thoughts current students!

We do have a lot of fun as a class. We're definitely into intramural sports; we usually have multiple teams competing. We made it to the finals in co rec volleyball and indoor soccer. We're still waiting on our first championship, however. haha.
We do alright hanging out, when we have time. This weekend we're celebrating our Feb/March birthdays with a party downtown at a casino. I believe a limo has been booked...
As far as trips, quite a few people in our class are going to Nicaragua in a couple weeks for spring break.
Beaumont is great, and they have lots of clerkship teaching experience. I do not know about their reputation nationally, but I'm sure it's up there. It's an amazing hospital system.
Anyhow we would love to have you. Come join us, and if you want it and don't see it, make it happen!

If anyone is staying for the housing session Friday afternoon and needs a ride to the airport after, I probably could drop you off since it's somewhat on the way to where I'm going. I probably will be driving to OUWB on Thursday morning so I wouldn't be able to help on the way there.
 
AMWA is ordering OUWB T-Shirts to sell during the Second Look Event! They are grey, American Apparel [so comfy!] crew neck shirts with the full OUWB logo on the front. You can stop by CMSS anytime during the week of March 19th to purchase one for $20 [this may have been posted in the Facebook group as $15, but we found out that the shirts cost a ton more because they are American Apparel...]. Proceeds benefit the American Medical Women's Association [AMWA] at OUWB.

[Sorry for the spam... but just wanted to spread the word since we need to sell a bunch to break even 🙂]

It was 2/24, I know because I attended it and the Assistant Dean said the last 2 decision dates will be the first and third Wednesdays of March (3/7 and 3/21)
 
Anybody know how close they are to a full class or how many more straight acceptances are left? I hope there are plenty for the last two interview groups.I Would really like to stop stressing about getting in and begin planning a move 😀

I honestly don't know if the admissions office wants us to post the link. It's a private group only for admitted students (the admissions office has to add you after you request it) and if you've been admitted, then you should have access to the link
 
Accepted! Thank god, I was getting worried I was not going to get accepted this year
