why do you suspect this?

I thought you said you were an avid reader of this thread! :wtf:

Just kidding... I wanted an excuse to use that emoticon.

Anyway, to summarize, there are only 20 people in the admitted students ME Track Facebook group. But maybe the missing 16 people all hate FB and didn't join on purpose, to confuse the rest of us 😛

I was just re-reading the AMCAS recommendations for med schools, and it said decisions should be given within 2 wks of the 15th, that's all. I'm just hoping for sooner, rather than later (as always, as everyone)

Can you provide a link to where you're reading that?

On the "AAMC Recommendations for Medical School" link (https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/recommendations/62826/policies_admissionofficers.html), I don't see anything that suggests schools are obligated to make decisions within 2 weeks of the 15th.

The closest thing to that is item #6, which simply says that, after May 15, the school may require applicants to respond to acceptance offers in less than 2 weeks. Even that has nothing to do with May 29th. It just says if an offer is made in mid July, then the school might force the accepted student to make a decision 2 weeks from mid-July. As far as I know, May 31 is all Tufts promised. Could be wrong though.

You're right. I've read the list before but it helps to read it again. Thanks for providing the link. I will go back to expecting nothing until the 31st.

I think it's pretty hard to rely on the FB group. Admittedly, I did this early on but you have to suspect also that some people who may have originally joined could have even dropped their seat by now but not have bothered to drop the group.

And not to hurt hopes but I really feel they were required to fill their class at some point. I'm pretty sure it's a requirement by AMCAS. Granted there may be (and I'm sure there are) open seats just sitting there right now but we have no idea how many. I'm guessing they will be meeting around now to discuss who the seats will go to around now and then give us updates at the end of the month.

I've also heard that some schools will ask if you want to stay on the waitlist at this point or drop your spot if you've been accepted elsewhere.

Besides those who have already posted here, are there any accepted students out there (who still read this thread) who withdrew their slot in the Maine Track and will be attending another school?

I'm aware of 2 people (including gloeotrichia - post #232) who definitely withdrew.

3 have withdrawn (letting us know via FB), and 2 have joined the FB group in the last week or so.

Any idea if the two people who joined were deferred? Or accepted awhile ago but really slow to join the FB group? Thanks...

Come on Tufts! One week left to make up your minds.

I called them today and they said they will make their decisions "no later than the end of next week". They did not know how many positions are available (if any). The committee retains that information.

Thanks for sharing! :xf:Hoping for some good news.

Agreed. After zero communication from Tufts since early November, I can't believe the past ~7 months have finally gone by and we are in the final week to hear from them.

Did anyone else get an "update contact info" email this afternoon? They noted that they were sending notifications by end of week to all who interviewed and received deferred decision.

Got it. I wonder what it will say. I feel like any news via mail isn't necessarily good... Unless it's just saying stay on our waitlist and maybe we'll call ya?

I received this email. Are we now waiting even longer for these letters to come via US post?

Got the email as well... I feel very pessimistic. I guess it will be helpful to get a sense for whether or not all deferred applicants got the email or not. They've got to accept at least one deferred applicant, right?

And sorry, but I have to vent... snail mail? Are they serious? I've waited long enough. Just send an F-ing email. Save money on postage. Thanks.

Will these letters ultimately place you in a reject or wait-list category? It seems like everyone who got accepted noted that they were called by Tufts at some point. None mentioned a "update your contact information" email.

Keep in mind these are generic emails admissions is sending all applicants yet to receive a rejection or acceptance to date. My gut feeling is that most of us will be Waitlisted and maybe some rejected. I personally don't think acceptances will go out until everyone that is going to withdraw their spot has done so. As soon as they know I believe we will get movement and I believe there WILL be movement. This is just what I think though so could be totally wrong

Just to put in my two cents I honestly don't think anyone should worry at this point, though I know it's so much easier said than done. After I saw an email from Tufts all the anxiety of waiting came rushing back, but looking at the old threads definitely help. If you look back at the current Tufts thread people with acceptances did in fact get an "update contact info" email. Also, if you look back at last years thread it looks people received the update email then received a wait list email. It seems that those accepted were actually wait listed first, even if it was for only a day. Don't forget that if you get in they will need to mail you things!

You mean wait until everyone currently accepted makes their final decision? That might not happen until the days right before orientation (and when is that, by the way??). The ADCOM can't possibly wait that long. For instance, last year someone got in off the WL at another school right before orientation, and dropped his ME Track seat. So I definitely think some people will get off the WL / accepted "soon".

Agreed. People have got the update email in the past; however, I believe these were more along the lines of making sure your phone number is correct so they can call you. They would never mail an acceptance, especially at this point. At least I don't think so. I've always heard of acceptances to every and any school being with a phone call. That way you can accept or reject right away.

On the more optimistic side.... It could also mean that phone calls will be starting at the end of the week..? Obviously those without the call will get the snail mail of waitlist or rejection. My guess is people will get phone calls before anyone gets mail so I guess we'll hear that news first. And agreed, at least one of us will have to get a phone call at some point!

Orientation starts Aug. 6

Someone in the facebook group just got off the wait list at their state school and will be withdrawing from the Maine track, so there should be waitlist movement for you guys, so don't despair!

*Like*

And thank you for the update!!

I called them today and they said updates should be issued "no later than Tuesday" (June 5th).

Updates as in...? Mail will arrive or be sent out by Tuesday? What about phone calls for the lucky people?

I am not in Maine track, but no phone calls on the normal admission people here :/

They hope to notify people by email and by letter of their application status hopefully no later than the end of this week.

So you called them again today? Thank you for doing this and for keeping the rest of us updated. Did you also happen to find out what the big hold up is?

Just wondering... Am I short-tempered and impatient or are they being unreasonable?

I think they are being pretty unreasonable considering they told us they would get back to us "by the end of May" when weve all been waiting for months on top of it. And now they keep pushing it back and back...this is very frusterating

I did call them this morning to ask about when we would hear. I did NOT ask about what their hold up is. I don't want to annoy them too much. Their secondary application server appears to be down and so people can't update their contact information. That may be part of it, though this is just a guess.

With the way things have been going, the letters are only going to say "Please proceed to location X for your next clue..."

Yeah, I think the issue with the secondary application website might have caused the delay. Did anyone have issues with it? I did, and at first I ignored it because I figured none of my info has changed so I could risk not checking it, but then I sent an email saying I couldn't access it. (Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut!) I was away visiting my grandparents who still use dial-up (they let AOL rob them!! 😱😡) so I thought that might have been the issue... but the email I got back was quite generic ("Dear Applicant, we're sorry...") which made me think the issue was on their end. However, when I finally got the follow-up email today (they said they would contact me again once the website was up and running), I was addressed by name.

So who knows.

Yay for technical difficulties! Looks like we should be hearing something by this afternoon... Officially nervous!

Good luck everyone!!:xf:

+1. Exact same time.

Wonder if they actually rejected anyone?

Feels like they are going to wait list everyone.

All deferred applicants --> waitlisted.

If you've been accepted or rejected (i.e., something other than waitlisted) please don't be shy... we need to figure out what's going on here!

To give those of you waitlisted a little encouragement, I got a rejection email so they were indeed sent out. No worries for me as I'm already committed to another school. Good luck everyone.

Thanks for letting us know. Good luck with your other school, I'm sure you'll be happy 🙂

waitlisted this afternoon as well, but I will be withdrawing since I've decided to go to a different school...keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!

wait listed as well. Doesn't seem like anyone was accepted though. Only rejected or wait listed maybe? SDN and the facebook groups aren't perfect/all knowing but it's the best indicator we have and I don't see any new adds on the groups or new acceptances. Well maybe they're expecting some movement soon. Good luck everyone. Keep persevering.

For those who confirmed that they want to stay on the wait list, did you guys get a confirmation email that they got it? I didn't and was just thinking it would have been nice to get one to make sure they got it right.

So maybe now they're going over who wanted to stay on the list and then will start making phone calls from there... Hopefully!

I didn't get a confirmation email either... I was wondering the same thing.

Does anyone think there will be any Maine Track waitlist movement? I suspect the regular track will have some but in the past it seems like there hasn't been any for the Maine Track... However that being said maybe they have learned from past mistakes of over accepting.. Also it seems like all deferred students were wait listed so perhaps there are a few spots available? Any thoughts?
