ME TOO!!!!! I have to pay the seat deposit at a different school this Thursday and it's a non-refundable $500. :-( Knowing my luck I'll pay the fee, then get accepted next week. :-( Though.... that'd be better than paying the fee and not getting accepted next week!!! :-D Which in turn is better than not paying the fee, and never getting accepted anywhere else!! :-D
Is there a committee meeting today?
Are you notified Wednesday of acceptance if the committee meets on Tuesday? Or how soon after do you know?
Normally people are notified Tuesday afternoon.
Anyone Interview on 12/14 (tomorrow)?
I am sitting in my hotel room super nervous....🙁
At my interview they took the worst candidate, cooked them and served them for lunch. Don't worry though, I'm sure you're safe!Anyone Interview on 12/14 (tomorrow)?

Anybody have any opinions on the distinction tracks? I think it's kind of dumb that the school forces you into the extra workload assuming that students won't have the initiative to seek out these activities on their own. It would be a lot nicer, imo, if the school didn't require these.
I thought they were optional..are you referring to the tracks in global health, research etc? I don't remember being told they were required on interview day.
Yeah. I'm pretty sure you are required to choose one distinction track, but at least you are able to choose. I was just doing a little reading on their website and each track appears to be fairly rigorous with many activities, presentations, and a project required outside of the demands of classes and clerkships. I could be wrong about them being required, but I don't want to be tied to one aspect of medical education for four years. I would like to experience a variety of research, service, humanities, etc. opportunities at my own pace and on my own terms.
Misconception. The distinction tracks are not required. Furthermore, you may start one and drop it without penalty if you're having difficulty completing the program. This was discussed during interview day
Congratulations to everyone who got in!!
Is anyone considering applying for the summer research fellowship? Or are there any current students who have? There is a professor at Iowa who is studying the one specific thing I am interested in (aging in Russia) and I have emailed him about the research fellowship and he is happy to be my mentor. However, I really think Case Western Reserve is a better fit for me, plus I will have more time there to do research. Does anyone know of anyone who went as a pre-M1 to Iowa City to do research? And any thoughts on doing this if I won't be an Iowa student (like other sources of funding I could get, etc.) Thanks!
Thanks for that. I was really hoping they weren't required, but I couldn't find anything that said they weren't. I wonder if they were required in the past or something because I remember seeing a class picture of a segment of a class in MERF a while ago and under each person, their distinction track was listed with their match results or something. Sorry for the confusion.
Accepted, OOS. I really thought I had bombed this interview but I guess you never know 🙂
Final Pooled today. Interviewed 11/15. OOS.
So if you go into the secondary, and you check "contact info" there is a little box that says "Last Update: [Date] [Time]" Does anyone know if this has anything to do with being reviewed etc? My last update was December 14, and I haven't logged into the secondary since probably November so I was just curious.
Also, if you're final pooled, do you know on the tuesday that they review your file that you've been final pooled?
That's the last time you updated your contact information, not when you were reviewed.

Final Pooled today. Interviewed 11/15. OOS.
Im saying that I didn't update my info though, I haven't accessed AMCAS or my secondary for a long time....anyways, not gonna read too much into it
What I mean by this is that you seem to have gotten an "initial decision", having interviewed a month later than I, while I haven't heard anything at all...
...can anybody offer input into this? Anybody interview before/after 11/15 and also get a thumbsup/thumbssideways (as I'm calling these sort of things)?
The review process is random. They select 25 files at a time at complete random to review. So, I interviewed on the 30th of November, and I could conceivably be reviewed the following tuesday and offered a decision before someone who interviewed in the 1st week of October. Hope this helps
This. Skim through the thread, the process is described multiple times. From what we know, I wouldn't worry about people who interviewed after you hearing back earlier.
So the general consensus is that 25 files are reviewed randomly each week. So that would mean it doesnt matter what one's residency status is. IS or OOS. But it seems to me that IS students seem to hear before OOS
Final pooled is not that bad. Keep your hopes up!
Do you mind sharing your stats?
PS. did you really interview on 11/15? that is a Tuesday! I'm pretty sure it is a typo.
Have a good day and hopefully you will get in on March 30th.

Hmm.
I don't really recall hearing that it was a totally random pull of 25.
In fact, I recall them mentioning that there is a chronological aspect. But, I could be completely and absolutely wrong...
Oh well. Fingers crossed!
@ jlzeman:
Congratulations!!! 🙂 I interviewed the same day, haven't heard back yet. Which one were you?
(Sorry, new to posting-- tried to quote you but it didn't work. 😛 )
Does anybody know if the adcom is meeting this week? 🙄

I just logged on to SDN to ask the same question! Not that I have a high likelihood of being reviewed 3 weeks after my interview.
I just remembered. On my interview day, they said that the adcom is taking a two week hiatus from reviewing applicants/interviewees. Looks like the wait continues ha. I really like Iowa a lot. The only bummer was that my tour guide wasn't very enthusiastic or informative on the school. He didn't give us an exciting feeling, and I had to keep asking question upon question just to get anything out of him. Oh well, Iowa is still amazing. Best of luck all!👍
