Now it would come in a letter. Sometime in June they switch to phone calls.

interviewed back on January 18th, haven't heard a thing yet. Anyone interview on this date as well? People who interviewed on other days, how long did you have to wait roughly before hearing some type of news?

Interviewed in December, heard back in about 3 weeks.

yeah i heard back from them in about 3.5 weeks, waitlisted 🙁

I heard back in a week which is fast apparently, but I was waitlisted...I wonder why they responded to me so fast just to put me on the waitlist????

Thanks everyone above for the insight. I interviewed about 5 weeks ago and nothing yet at all....wonder what that means. I wonder if WVU has rejected anyone post interview (and if they've informed them or not).

They definitely have. It was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Thanks KnifeofIce. I wonder if I should sit tight or shoot them a call. Do waitlist notifications come via email or snail mail?

Anyone else who interviewed in January or before still waiting to hear something, anything at all?

Just gave up my seat - I had put a deposit down in the Fall. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

helloitsmee, 5 weeks without any news? I would probably call at this point or send an email.
DocMan22, Thanks for letting other people know; it is very nice of you!
Though I am sure you will regret it later

Thanks Fortress for the advice. I might just call in on Monday then.

No problem, helloitsmee. I am sure Beth Ann will understand; she is pretty nice and approachable. She doesn't know much about the housing in the area and other student life related stuff, but in terms of admissions she is definitely the one to contact.

Well, I just called in only to find out that I was sent a waitlist letter back on Jan. 26th....I never got it in the mail but I confirmed my home address with Mrs. McCormick and they have the correct one. I wonder what happened to that letter.

Welcome to the club! Now that interviews are officially over, let's hope some of us make that preliminary 3/15 list... I know most of the WL movement doesn't happen until after 5/15 -- but do you guys think they already offered all of the OOS spots? OR they will be making their final preliminary offers to fill the class this week??

Mrs. McCormick told me that they'll be meeting 2morrow and then again next week to make more decisions. She said everyone should know something by around March 19th...

I honestly would think they would accept OOS students last, so I would think (hope) that a lot of OOS students would be accepted in the next couple of weeks. That's just my guess though.

Soooo there's gonna be some waitlist movement this month? sweet.

Hello all!!! I interviewed on January 23rd and was waitlisted about 1 week later. I got an acceptance letter in the mail this morning from WVU. The letter was dated March 7th. I believe that the movement of the waitlist has started. There is still hope. I wish you all the very best!!!!🙂

Congrats! Now you have to decide about the purpose before Fall comes!

Congratulations! I'm guessing you live on the east coast since you received the letter so quickly. I'm gonna start watching out for the mail!

Also can I ask you what your stats are?

Hey everyone,

For those of you who have been accepted (and those of you who will soon be accepted), I'm a current MS1 looking for a roommate for next year. I live at the Villages at West Run, just a 5 minute drive from the Health Sciences Center. I'm a guy but I'd be fine living with a guy or girl. Please let me know if you're interested. You can e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!

Matt

Welp, I think today is the last meeting of the AdCom to make final decisions on the class. Good luck everyone.

No, Mrs. McCormick would tell you if you e-mailed her too. I had sent her an e-mail last week and she told me.

For the initial class, yes. Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned that waitlist movement happens in May because that's when people with multiple acceptances (luckies) have to decide on 1 school and can't hold on to multiple acceptances anymore.

There will be plenty of movement later on. Plenty. I was accepted June 15 last year.

Hey Hamels, thanks a lot for your contribution. It gives people like me hope 🙂 How is medical school going?

Hamels!

Remember you from last year. Glad to see you're still hanging around. Thanks for the hope!

No one heard anything yet? I'm close to WVU, ~3 hours away, so any mail they send should come to me the next day...We should hear back this week.

Guys, to make you feel even better. My current best friend in med school and I were both accepted on July 26th. At least a couple more people in our class were accepted even later! So, stop panicking and begin enjoying the spring.

BTW, in all honesty - 2nd year of med school sucks big time, but I still LOVE it.

Holy cow...that's incredibly late. Did you keep in contact with the school, Fortress?

Yes, I did. And it was a bit challenging to keep in touch with the school while trying not come across as a pest. However, my friend, whom I mentioned in the previous post, did not. So, it looks like getting into med school is: stats + LOIs + luck + God knows what.

Any news, anyone?

As much as I love hearing all of this, I have come to learn that for me, checking SDN is like a positive feedback loop - ha. Must ... distract ... self ... from ... forums ..

Well spring break is coming up, hopefully youll be distracted then 😉. Unless youre working lol.

Thanks for your input, it definitely helps. I know my BF got accepted off the WL last year June 24.

Fortress (and any others): Do you know people who got accepted off the WL in the summer even if they already had acceptances somewhere else? I have a few acceptances in my "home state" of Florida -- but I know that I want to go to WVU, and only WVU. I sent my firm intent letter to the committee after being placed on the WL, but I'm nervous that the later it gets, the worse chances I will have, since I've already been accepted somewhere else. I don't know if this makes it more complicated for them (since after May 15 they'd have to contact the school I'd "committed" to). Any thoughts?

Haha - unfortunately for me, that was last week and I did work .. on the ambulance all week. Hey, a distraction is a distraction.

LadyRug -- I could definitely be mistaken, but what makes you think that WVU has knowledge of your other acceptances? At least up until May 15, they should be irrelevant, right ..

LadyRugger, I have no idea how much a particular school knows about your relationships with other schools. But what I know for sure (remember) is how the conversation went with Beth Ann on the day I was accepted.
Her: "Hello, Fortress, this is Beth McCormick from WVU SOM, how are you?"
Me: "Hello, Ms. McCormick! I am doing fine, thanks".
Her: "Fortress, have you been already accepted to any medical school?"
Me: "No, I would love to, but I have not been so far".
Her: "Well.... How does West Virginia sound to you?"
Me: "It sounds awesome!"
Her: "Congratulations! You have been accepted".
The rest of the conversation doesn't matter.

Would she tell me something else, if I were already accepted at another school? Your guess would be as good as mine. But we have to keep in mind: I was accepted only 5 days before the end of the game, not 4 months.

In my opinion, they should be impressed by an OOS applicant preferring them over their state school, and not take you off the list especially so early.

Thanks a lot for the input 🙂 I appreciate it. I know it's still early in the game but I can't help but worry!

No problem! A friend of mine likes to say: "Why to pray if you can worry?" You just reminded me about it 🙂

Dying right now. I guess they're sending out the letters today or tomorrow because Mrs. McCormick said that letters were being sent out this week.

Are you talking about waitlist updates?

I also called Mrs. McCormick last Thursday and she told me that all waitlisters will hear something within the first part of April... whether they will remain on the waitlist or whether they will not be considered by the adcom anymore. Not sure how to interpret this. Does she mean the best news is that you will remain on the waitlist? Are people getting accepted from this batch of letters?
