soooo im an idiot and realized I copy and pasted the same essay for two diff prompts lol. i e-mailed them asking if they could reset my application :\. hopefully it'll work out

What email did you send to? I tried the one they sent the secondary from, but it was returned. I need to ask them about replacing orgo 2 lab with biochem.

i used the e-mails listed on the website

What if I didn't put "an lab" on my AMCAS? Am I screwed?

i didn't either... but i designated those classes as "combined lecture and lab", so should be okay

they'll prly e-mail u asking for more information. I just got an e-mail from downstate for a similar problem

Just contact the schools that you applied to and let them know you made a mistake.

Ok thanks. The only classes I think might be a problem are Gen Chem 1 and Bio 1. They were both combined lecture/lab (4 credits), but for some reason the second semester of both had separate lab/lecture. The lectures were 3 credits, lab 1 credit, so I assume any human looking at my transcript will understand that the first semester was combined.

yeah I always give people a hard time for not looking at the amcas instruction manual, guess I have to eat my words here! i just looked at it and see why I missed it, in one paragraph it says to write down the course name exactly as it appears on your transcript... then two paragraphs down the explanation of putting "and lab". damn!

I read the part about how exact course name (as on transcript), but not the part about "an lab." I didn't want to add it arbitrarily and delay verification. I put everything exactly as it appears on my transcript (typos and all).

Edit: Also, I'm the same way 🙂 I'm the first to tell someone to use the search function or link them to an instruction manual. But I'm also the first to ask a question that I could've spent 10 minutes searching for.

Hey All

I just got done posting for the 2011 -2012 thread. I can't believe another year is here for the next application cycle! I am currently a 4th year doing an MD/MPH at EVMS so this is coming on my 5th year here at EVMS (4th year as a med student). anyways, I wanted to offer up my services to answer questions and clear up misconceptions. I am jealous of all of you who are coming in at this time as EVMS is poised to be recognized beyond our little town of Norfolk in the coming years with the huge influx of state money and our new administration. We were great before, but we were known little outside of Norfolk. It will not be this way by the time you graduate!

Anyways, enough self advertising 😛 I know the current website is crappy, but we will be launching our new one (designed by the same people who made Darden's and Harvard Business school's website) in November. It will be much easier to navigate once that is here. Don't just a school by its website!

Just as an FYI, our second largest represented state on campus is California... so we love our OOS students. Dont' think that we prefer one or the other. I am OOS from California so I went through that same thinking until I got here and realized that we love all applicants.

Again, please feel free to PM me if you have questions. Wish you all the best of luck!

I'm so sorry that really is a bummer =/.

I have a 3.39 sGPA, but the last 3 years of college I had 3.55 sGPAs or greater...I REALLY hope I do not get auto-rejected for this :scared::scared::scared:. I also have a 30+ MCAT OOS...

I had a 3.3 sGPA, and was ultimately waitlisted and in fact ACCEPTED! Now, I am instate, and I did do an SMP, but even in that I only got a 3.44, so I do honestly think that, for the sGPA at least, they don't automatically throw it out if you fall short, and I think that your app has a fighting chance. Of course, it's more than just the numbers.

Just wondering if I got a C- in one of my bio classes, will it be an auto rejection? My science gpa is a 3.45 and my overall is a 3.55. OOS

Very much doubt a rejection ALL on its own, but you will probably be expected to explain it, and if you've done no upper-level bio (and done it well), that could be a serious problem.

Anybody else get duplicate emails inviting you to complete the secondary? I got one a couple of days ago and then again today.

just called admissions. they said that you need a 3.44 in science and overall GPA to be competitive from out of state.

Truth.... What SMP did you do Pattycake25?

Can anyone else corroborate this?

3.44 scigpa i have strong doubts about. First off it is two decimal points and an adcom would round up or down so kind of makes me think this is bull. Second this school is very smp friendly and most of them have lower grades. That being said without an smp or some awesome life experience you really need at least a 3.5 and a 32 mcat for a good shot at any school however there are tons of people that beat out the odds and get in. Apply everywhere you can afford and fight all the way

Perhaps the original person who started this gpa rumor just didnt want more people to apply?

I wonder what the folks over at ODU think about this.

They are PO'ed.

"'In light of the many academic partnerships and research agreements Old Dominion shares with EVMS, we are hopeful that (the General Assembly) study will be reconsidered and broadened,' [ODU President John Broderick] said."

This was said in a letter he "fired off" to the ODU community in response to the announcement, so clearly he feels this hits below-the-belt. Then again, EVMS and W&M have a good and productive relationship too, as we do with HU, so it's not a complete snub.

Yeah, I don't think it's that big of a snub. It sounds as though W&M is playing just as active a role as EVMS, if not more of one. They already have professional schools for business and law, but no medical school (neither does ODU, granted).

Yeah, it may be a little bit of a snub... 😛

There is no way to know exactly how quickly this will go. Assuming everything runs smoothly, you can expect it to happen within the next year or two. Things go fairly quickly around here.

Are they looking for dates, names, and hour totals on the clinical exp description

I have a general question for LOR. So I have letter packet from my school.

I have 2 science prof, 1 research, 1 hospital volunteer and 1 homeless volunteer letters.

But I do not have any non-science letter. Am I out of luck for applying to EVMS? I have received secondary but I am stuck in here.

Thanks guys!!!

Don't they require non science letter from faculty member?

I think you're right, unfortunately. I'm in the same situation. It would be awesome if they took a volunteer letter, but according to their website it's supposed to be faculty.

Hey, did you find out the answer to this?

And about that post claiming admissions told him/her that applicants needed 3.44 sGPA and cGPA - the EVMS website does say matriculating students had an average GPA of 3.44. So it's not like the poster pulled that number from nowhere. Still, I'm hoping they're not doing auto-rejections based on stats at the screened-in secondary stage. If I knew that for sure, I wouldn't apply.

For their average to be 3.44 they would have to take students with lower GPAs.

I know; I'm just saying that it's possible the admissions committee is looking to increase their numbers this year. Seems reasonable to maybe start with last year's average as a parameter to eliminate applicants who don't make up for a <3.44 in other ways. I doubt there are cut-and-dry rejections based on that number alone.

Rejected pre secondary

I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you are taking the news OK.

That does not make me feel too good. You and I are applying at a lot of the same places. You have a better MCAT, but my GPA is slightly better.

I should brace for a rejection from here as well.

Good luck with your other schools. I hope you get into your #1 choice.

Yeah I am not super concerned about it. I was told I maybe rejected because of the gpa. I am in an smp but apparently they only care about theirs. Rejecting people they believe will do well in thier smp is apparently their way of trying to get people into it. Virginia has not been very friendly to me except vcu

Secondary received. I could not find a word/character limit for the essays. Is there one?

EDIT: Forget I asked. I just went back and re-read all the prior pages and saw that there is a 2000 character limit.

Are the prompts the same as those posted on the first page of this thread?
