I just want to say congratulations to all those accepted and to anyone else waiting don't give up hope. This is my second time applying and i have defintely given up on myself a few times in this process. Just keep your chin up and if you truly want to become a physician you just have to keep trying till someone acknowledges your passion. Good luck to everyone else this cycle and I can't wait to meet my new classmates!
 
congrats to those accepted! Interviewed 10/15 and really loved the whole Hofstra philosophy- hoping most of us who have interviewed are still in the running!
 
Interviewed 10/24 still no word. She said if you don't hear back right away you were most likely wait listed. =(

really? When I interviewed I'm pretty sure that they said they would admit very slowly so as to not over-accept, so not to worry if it took a long time. Perhaps they changed their tune between our interview dates though.

They said that at mine too. That at first they wouldn't accept more than the class could accommodate, until people started withdrawing acceptances.
 
Congratulations to all those accepted. No word for me yet. Interviewed 10/03.

Oh well. I will continue to wait.

thanks! I interviewed on 10/19...I honestly remember them telling me that I wouldn't hear back until january, but i guess not!

Interviewed on sort of a make up day for hurricane Sandy (but my original day wasn't going to be until 2013) and Joanne Snapp basically said we would hear back within weeks for an acceptance or not at all (wait list/rejection) until April when they can see who is holding multiple acceptances.

Well she said it to our group and it seems like the previous groups were told that decisions wouldn't start until a certain point and that just came so they may not have gone through all apps so far. She also said the adcom only meets every few weeks so don't lose hope! Either way, wait lists are not death sentences even though it's painful not knowing for such a long time. I was wait listed for undergrad so I feel your pain.
 
hmm looking at my calendar I see I interviewed 10/22, not 10/15- seems like most of the folks got in were early october interviews- maybe they're not going 100% chronologically and just haven't gotten to our apps yet?

I interviewed in October after 10/22 and received an acceptance. But they may not be going chronologically? Hang in though, guys. Even if you're waitlisted, the waitlist is guaranteed to move a lot since they will only have 80 acceptances out at a time.

So I received an email from a current Hofstra student today offering to answer any questions for me. I think this is the most adorable recruitment effort ever. Seriously this school makes me all warm and fuzzy.

They may not be going in order of interview date but rather by the applicants specific interviewers. That way all the interviewers don't have to come down at once.

Anyone interview on or after 10/26 and hear back yet?? Their decisions are moving much faster than they stated! Just when I thought I recovered, I will now be checking my email every 5 minutes again.

I hope that's the case- I know at some schools the interviewers give report directly to the committee/ present your file themselves, whereas at others they simply give your interview a score/feedback that is included in your file when it goes before the committee, but they are not directly involved in the final evaluation. Anyone know how it works at Hofstra?

Super underdog here and got an II today!!!! 😀
Right now I'm scheduled for Jan 30th. I saw a Nov. 30th date but refreshed and it was gone >.< Nov. 30th would be kind of crazy though because I'm from CA and the flight would be expensive at this point.

Stats: Embarrassing gpas, 30Q. OOS.

I'm wondering, how do I check for additional dates? Can I press "Reset Interview" without forever losing my current spot?
 
You'll lose your spot if you hit "reset interview," but you can do it and quickly check for new dates. If nothing is available then just pick your date again. I did that but still ended up with my original date.

You should give them a call and they can give you options. They are super nice and it was really easy.

Ironically, the spot you registered for on Jan 30th was actually my spot (I think) that I rescheduled this morning to the first week of February.

lol i had the nov 30th spot but i reschedule recently to january
 
I submitted my secondary on September 19th, but still haven't gotten any completion email?

Anyone else in a similar boat? Maybe they are too busy accepting people to deal with us!

I submitted the secondary on 9/4 and right after I received an email saying they have received it and once all the docs are in (which they were at the time of submission) the application would enter the review process, and that you are welcome to check the status through the web portal anytime.
I have not heard heard anything else since then, but I assumed that was the "complete" email. The portal says my application is ready since 9/4.
The people who received complete emails...was it something else that came later?

I just checked my archives and it looks like I never received a complete email, only an email acknowledging submission. So I don't know if they send them at all, but it definitely didn't matter. Just hang in there. For some reason SDN has an unhealthy obsession with complete emails. I think they mean a lot less than we think they do. If you're worried, check your status on the website, make sure they've logged all your LOR's and then just sit back and wait.

Hey guys, long time lurker first time poster. I was just wondering if someone who has been accepted can help me out. I was recently accepted and remember them giving me the network id after the university id but i cannot remember it to save my life. I remember it was nearly the same thing as the uni ID # but with some alteration. If you can PM me what they add to it I would greatly appreciate it as i need to log into the portal this weekend and cant call the help center until monday. Thanks!
 
Any more acceptances after 11/19? Maybe theyre doing every other Monday, meaning today!?

Basically you get interviewed by two faculty members one of whom is a member of the Core Admissions Committee who'll present you to the Entire Core Committee come evaluation time. I would speculate that the other interviewer writes an evaluation for the Core Committee to consider but does not present you or directly take part in the final decision. (The rest of the information comes directly from the 2011-2012 school of medicine bulletin)
"The Admissions Committee meets regularly throughout the interview season. At the meetings, a Core
Committee member presents each recently interviewed applicant to the full Core Committee for general discussion, followed by the completion of an anonymous, scored, quantitative ballot by each Committee member. Based upon his/her quantitative ballot score, each applicant is designated as accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. Accepted and wait-listed applicants are ordered in a priority list, based upon the Admissions Committee score."
