Got the call from Dr. Callahan yesterday!!!!! Couldn't be more excited to go to Jeff -- loved it at my interview.

Accepted 1/30
Interviewed 1/23
Complete 8/29
Wow, that is an awesome turnaround! I'm still hoping to get an interview myself; I sent out a LOI earlier in the month, but haven't heard anything yet.

Any tips?

=/

i'm on the alternate waitlist which as about as useful as your current position!

MCAT: 31, GPA: 3.53, in-state

07/05/12: Submitted
07/08/12: Complete
09/10/12: I emailed them an update letter with some new publications from my research.
09/13/12: Emailed reply: The information has been added to my file

Current Status Since Then: Decision Pending

There's no hope here, right? 🙁 I should give up anticipating any news? I have another acceptance already, I was just hoping for something good here, but it's feeling more and more like a silent rejection. Does this school do that? 😕

omg.. stop posting this same post in every school's thread! do some research by scrolling! rejections have been sent out!

I didn't post the "same post" in "every school's" thread. I posted it with relevant details to each of 4 schools where I am currently in limbo to get people's feed back. I did do some scrolling, but I was looking for more substantial answers than a bunch of people talking about their November application completions and interview invites over the last month. I was hoping someone who knew something more or who was in a similar position could comment on their experiences thus far.

Clearly you are not that person. Thanks though. :annoyed:

you are essentially asking if Jefferson, Drexel, Temple and some other school silently reject. My point was that by scrolling or looking at the rejection thread, you would find your answer to this question. yes you pretty much made the same post in all 4 threads. The answer to the first 3 is no, they send out rejections and have sent out to people with various completion dates. It is so late now it doesn't matter when you were complete. you have likely been reviewed by now at least once. If you are still under review, you may still get an II but it's kind of late for that now. Perhaps you will get rejected from all when the interview season is finalized.

Looks like I know where I'll be come August! 😀
Complete: 8/15
Interview:1/16
Accepted: 2/6

So thrilled and good luck to all!

1/30 interviewers, please post if you hear any news.

are they stilling sending out interview invites or are they pretty much done? thanks

ACCEPTED yesterday!!!!! This is my first acceptance and as a non-trad, re-applicant I am extraordinarily excited/relieved that I don't have to go through this again. It has truly been a long wait for this!

My path to get to this point at Jefferson is a bit different so here are the basics of what happened in case it can help someone else at some point.

Last Cycle
Complete: End of June
II: Mid February...so those of you complete super early, there is still hope!
Interview: End of March
Decision: HP Waitlist at the end of April

This Cycle
Complete: Mid August

Then the fun begins...

I got a call from Jefferson two weeks ago and they wanted to schedule me for a Skype "pre-interview" with Dr. Brooks. I Skyped with her one week later and was told that since I had such a great interview last year, they didn't need me to come back out this year and would just send me to the committee if I was still interested. A week after that (yesterday), I got accepted!!! Sometimes things just work out when you least expect it...:luck:

Got the email for second look today and I really hope to attend. Anybody know if there is a fb group for the 2017 class?

I've been periodically sending updates to Dr. Callahan about my continued interest in Jefferson (literally the only school that I interviewed at that I can actually see myself attending). Does anyone know how often people on the the High priority waitlist move off and are accepted??

A third of the class is made up off wait listed people.

When is the second look day? Still on the HP waitlist but I'm hoping....

Just to help lower anxiety, plan on missing second look. If the cycle runs like last year, second look will be in April (I believe), and HP movement won't start until May. I know I had to miss it because of that, but still got to come here anyway. I chose it over some other places too and even without getting a second look, I don't regret it.

I have my interview coming up, and I have no idea what is special about Philadelphia for med students. I have always thought Philly to be more of a historical city, focusing research in the humanities and social sciences rather than natural sciences. I know Upenn has a huge research center, but I of course can't bring that up if they ask me, "Why do you want to go to school in Philadelphia?" Any suggestions for this question would be much appreciated.

Seriously?

There are five med schools in Philadelphia, with multiple well known hospitals and medical facilities in the city limits.

You should check the stat about how a fourth of all doctors have trained in Philly for either med school or residency.

i had no good reason about why jefferson was good as i went into the interview day. this is what i learned from the presentations and in general:

1. students have a balanced life. no curve so there is no competition at all. lots things to do in philly.

2. hospital is right next to school, which allows for tons of shadowing and research opportunities

3. one of the oldest med schools with the most graduates i think, so you will have a good nationwide network

4. programs that let you volunteer with underprivileged communities easily

and some more i forgot

Thanks for the heads up. Main reason I was asking is a friend who graduated from Jeff in 2012 told me she'd gotten on the waitlist in December when she applied and got in in February. I guess they must have slowed down on waitlist movement that early since then. I have other acceptance but being a Philly local would love to have a shot at Jeff... But was hoping to get an inside look at the school to convince me it's better than other options I have 😉

I've only got one cycles experience too. Anything (except tuition going down!) can happen, I suppose.

If any ladies are looking for a roommate, email me! 🙂

Too much :naughty: going on for one thread.
On a side note, anyone know the orientation dates for this upcoming year? And if students move in during or before orientation?
Trying to plan a fishing trip over here.

Orientation is July 30 - August 2. They sent an e-mail out a couple of weeks ago to accepted students with a preliminary academic calendar.

I am planning on going to Jeff next year and was planning on living in the student housing for my first year...is anyone else? any current students' opinions on that? do people wait until second look to fill out the information in case they find someone they want to live with, or do people mostly get random roommates?

Not a current student, but I plan on living in student housing my first year. I'm very OOS and its the most accommodating option for me. From my interview, however, I recall current students saying that you could find great bargains off campus and that is the way to go. I assume I'll head in that direction for the remaining years. I think this is more of an option for in the area students.
I'm certainly not opposed to living off campus MS1, but unless something fairly surprising happens during 2nd look, I don't anticipate it.
Hopefully a current student responds with more definitive advice. 😀

I lived in Orlowitz last year and it was a decent arrangement. Across the street from the lecture hall, next to the library, other students in the building, etc. I lived in a 1 BR and paid around $1080 (rent + electric + cable TV, which is optional). This year, I'm off-campus with a roommate and I pay like $850 including everything. My recommendation is that if you're even remotely thinking about living on-campus, submit the online application NOW. The sooner, the better. The 2 BR's fill up quickly, so if you want to live on-campus with a roommate, just go ahead and submit. They'll contact you in late May/early July, and give you the opportunity to either accept or reject the housing offer. Second look will be a good opportunity to find a roommate. Hope to see you all there!

Campu$ hou$ing i$ $uper $uper expen$ive. There are a TON of areas to find apartments, in literally every cardinal direction from jefferson, starting at just across the street.

If you want roommates, 2 bedroom places are the most plentiful (3br's are more rare). Most places won't open up until early summer when realtors find out who isn't renewing their leases.

Nowhere in center city is truly "cheap" to live in, but you can play around with distance from campus, relative neighborhood safety (you won't be living in a truly dangerous one, as these are all inconveniently far from Jeff), neighborhood ritzy-ness, etc to change the cost. Unless you go super classy, they're ALL likely going to be cheaper than Jeff housing. PM me if you'd like specifics.

I know the location is convenient for student housing, but I was really happy to save hundreds each month if the trade-off was just a few blocks walk to school.

I was placed on HP-waitlist, but I just faxed over my housing application. Is it okay that I did that, in the hopes that I get accepted and I'm not screwed over for housing? Or are they just going to toss it since i am not formally accepted yet?

That's perfectly fine. They won't toss it.

Though its a bit hard to gauge how the interview went, I'll pray and clutch my phone all day tomorrow in hopes of a call from Dr. Callahan... really fast turnaround here. congrats to everyone whose gotten in!

Is there a reason you chose Orlowitz over Barringer? Or are they pretty equivalent?

They're pretty comparable. Both have card-operated laundry and both have fitness rooms. Barringer is a bit more expensive, but I think most, if not every apartment in Barringer has a dishwasher. The closets are definitely bigger in Orlowitz. They're across the street from one another, so the two buildings are practically in the same location.

Is it safe to say a "Interview Status: Decision Pending" is a silent rejection at this point?
