I just interviewed here and I don't really understand why people stress out at all about the interaction time with fourth year medical students. The students that I talked to during the entire day let alone the pre-interview interaction deal were all really lax and easy to talk to...unless you're legitimately socially inept, you shouldn't be one bit anxious about it. Just wanted to share my 2 cents

I'm glad you had a low-stress day. Most people do, it seems!

Yeah, the "sitting around with the other 4th years while waiting for yours" thing is really nothing. As far as I can tell, they're just checking if anybody's an enormous jerk outside of their interview (I've seen it happen.. sigh).

I did a looking searching, but didn't see this anywhere... Is Hopkins receptive to in-the-area emails? I hate to be that guy, but I've now flown out to the east coast twice and am starting to feel the weight of costs...

Their response to my in the area was that they would keep in mind my travel plans if I'm invited for an interview.

Fair enough--sounds pretty respectful and understanding... I figure Hopkins is a long shot for me, so it probably wouldn't hurt anyway. Thanks for your insight!

No II yet but I've been complete since september 🙁 I hope they show me some love

I got one today. And might not be able to make the trip 🙂scared🙂 so there could be an extra one going out soon.

Congrats on the invite at least. Mind sharing when you were complete?

Just got an II today. Pretty stoked. Complete Aug 23rd, so there is still hope

If you listed Hopkins on your AMCAS application, I'm sure they're going to receive it. It's too early in the season to be worrying about this 🙂

A little warning for the next few months - Hopkins is really slow at marking applications as "complete" after you submit your secondary. I think it took me about 2 and a half months from the time I submitted my secondary until I got marked as complete. Another month and a half after that before I was offered an interview.

Where exactly would I see that my application has been marked as complete?

Congrats! I submitted 9/12 and was complete early November. Hopefully I can have something to celebrate about between Christmas.

Got an interview invite on Wednesday!! Pretty surprised--I wasn't expecting anymore interviews! Complete August 28.

I hope people start posting it right away haha. They told me that the tentative date was around December 15th!!! Less than a month away. And they call for all acceptances right?

Yeah they said they would call. The 15th of each of the last three months of this year is huge for me: first MD acceptance for October, tx schools prematch for November, and Hopkins decision for December :scared:

Hopkins sends out its first round of acceptance letters the first week of December, not too far from now.

Submitted 9/24/12. Received an email stating my application is now complete 11/27/12. Did most people who applied here experience about a two month processing period?
Thanks!

Yes, more or less. I think the range is like one to two and a half months. I dont think it correlates with whether they want you more or not.

Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it. I haven't kept up with this thread and haven't had a chance yet to read through the previous post.

December 15th is a Saturday. Does that mean they'll still call or most likely starting the Monday after?
I noticed that too. From what I've heard, decisions come out mid-December so it could be anytime around this date, not necessarily on the 15th. Hopefully before!

Does anyone remember if they mentioned at the interview whether they accept updates? I have a fairly significant event to inform the admissions office of, but unfortunately I have a distinct memory that at one school I interviewed at we were explicitly requested to refrain from sending in updates (and I can't remember if it was JHU haha).

I just sent in a post-interview update, and they were like "Thanks, we'll add it to your file." So it seems like it's okay with them.

Does Hopkins allow for application updates pre interview invite?

Did you email them? Or is there a way to do it from the application portal

they have been accepting them from me

Whaaa? I called months ago and the woman explicitly told me they don't accept them 😕

Dammit I'm just going to send it in now. At worst, they just say no.

This is from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Admissions' facebook page:

"Tip of the week: Changes sent to AMCAS are automatically updated by AMCAS for the medical schools to which you have applied. I am, of course, referring to allowable changes (such as an updated address), which is what AMCAS has to consider them to be. There is no need to contact us as a follow-up. This differs from updates such as new grades, etc: AMCAS will not accept these, though some medical schools well. Unfortunately, Hopkins does not have a mechanism that allows us to update applications with new materials (such as papers, new honors or awards) once we receive the secondary application."

Maybe they're just giving me lip service. Lol

I'm so anxious to hear back guys... :scared:

I actually had a dream today that I got put on the waitlist, and they told me I was in the bottom of the list. I woke up in the middle of the night scared. Ha ha

I dream about Hopkins too. They may or may not be wet.

this whole completed business is quite stressful.. i dont understand why some people are completed in less than a week after submission while others take forever. i wonder if not being completed basically means your application wasn't worth looking at/is a rejection? when does hopkins formally reject preinterview?

A polite email about completion status does not hurt.

+1 ??????

Just a word of caution, though I'm probably preaching to experts: med schools miss their stated deadlines for various reasons. It seems like the consensus date for hearing some news has been December 15ish, but don't be shocked if it takes longer. There can be a lot of administrative details/paperwork/etc. that kick in when a student is accepted, and the staff can be quite busy because of the holiday season. (Really, I'm just trying to reduce the number of phone calls they'll receive )

That being said, I'd imagine they do want to hand out some acceptances before the holidays. So best of luck to you all in the coming weeks!
