this whole completed business is quite stressful.. i dont understand why some people are completed in less than a week after submission while others take forever. i wonder if not being completed basically means your application wasn't worth looking at/is a rejection? when does hopkins formally reject preinterview?
I received my secondary invite on 9/17 and had it submitted on 9/27. The status of my application was still showing submitted, so on 11/27 I sent an email making sure I had everything they needed. On 12/2 I got the email that my application was now complete and ready to be reviewed by the admissions committee and that It could take several weeks up to the end of April before a decision is reached.

Does anyone know how far into the cycle Hopkins sends out interview invites? I submitted in early November (late, I know), and my application has not yet even been designated as complete. Of course, I'd be thrilled to matriculate here, but I'm getting nervous that my app has been passed over.

Be patient. If you submitted that late, it could well be another month before your application is even marked as "complete".

From the JHUSOM admissions page on Facebook:

"The secondary application deadline was this past Saturday, December 1, at 11:59pm. We are absolutely stunned at the number of applicants who have had the secondary application for as much as 6 weeks and have only attempted to submit the application this past weekend. It makes us question their intent, otherwise, why would you wait until the last possible moment to try to finalize our application. I will not call this a tip of the week, but for those of you who will be applying in future years know the medical school's deadlines and get the application before the deadline."

Seems like they're not too fond of late applicants... 🙁

For those who already interviewed here, did the admissions say that they'll give EVERYONE some sort of decision (acceptance call, waitlist/rejection status) by around December 15th (assuming they interviewed before mid-November)? That was my impression, but I was wondering if they'll give anyone the silent treatment?

further to this -- does anyone know if this would include pre-interview applicants?

I interviewed in early November and the dean said we likely wouldn't hear anything until end of January, but he didn't sound absolutely positive about that. I fell in love with Hopkins. Crossing my fingers for good news in December or January!

I interviewed oct 26th and they threw out the date dec 15. They said "around" the 15th. So I'm guessing this week or more likely the following weeks.

Brutal! I hope November 1st isn't too late for them to care. However, I did take 6 weeks to respond after the initial link was sent out... woops. Hopefully they realize that sometimes life gets in the way of completing secondaries in a timely manner (either that or I'm screwed).

Judging by the tone and content of the message, it seems like they probably had a flurry of phone calls and emails that weekend and the ensuing Monday, from distraught applicants who missed the deadline entirely. It was probably frustrating for everyone involved.

The folks in the admissions office are wonderful, kind people in my experience, so I'm sure they realize that people get busy for various reasons. But as they said, it can never, never, never hurt you to submit a good application early rather than a good application late.

Also, I didn't realize our office had such an.. active Facebook.

Bump for all the neurotic pre-meds waiting to hear this Dec. 15th!!!!!!!!

JOHNS HOPKINS JOHNS HOPKINSSSSSSSSSSTHSSSTHSS.

hahahahahhaha :laugh::luck:

Does anyone know how likely it is that they'll let us know on the 15th? It's hard to think that they'll let us know on a Saturday. I was thinking maybe this Friday or Monday would be the most likely. Any thoughts on this? It's been 3 months since my interview so the waiting is getting really tough.

You've been accepted somewhere as well. Yet you're still waiting on your top 2 choices. lol nice to know who you are now!

Thanks for keeping the posts lively. Nothing like a good cat fight to while away the waiting.

Haha, trying not to think about it approaching...

Congrats MedicalAuthor!!!! so excited for you!! That is amazing!! I interviewed Oct 26th...Praying for a call.

No call yet... out of luck? How did they say they would notify waitlisted people

They said via email for the waitlisted

Was the call from Valerie Mazza? I got a message from her asking to call back, but no one's picking up...

Awww congrats to all with acceptances! making me anxious! haha I intervied Nov-1.. Hopefully I get a call soon too!

I'm guessing no more calls for tonight? So they just called a small batch of people today? NOOOO now I will have to be this anxious for another day O.O

edit: another day or 2 or 5

Maybe they haven't gotten to the November people yet? Almost afraid to ask...

I've been accepted. Don't know if I'll go (family commitments), but I'm proud to say that I got in. Interviewed in late October.

I wonder what order they're doing this. It seems like it's a little scattered.

I think they do it in the order by which you were invited. If you look at the people who were accepted, they were all invited in early september or late august.

Interviewed sep 28th

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using SDN Mobile

What makes you think it was a small batch? ~5 people on SDN who posted about their acceptance seems like a considerable batch....I'm guess at least ~30-50 ish.

It does seem that people who interviewed in November haven't been notified of any acceptances?

Yeah, you're right. Also, according to my theory, only people who interviewed in Sept. and Oct. are hearing back because these people received their invites early on (late August, first week of September). That's why we haven't seen anyone who's interviewed in November (which would be the case if they were randomly scattered), because these people received their invites in October.

ALSO, thus, people like Don Blake MD and me, who also interviewed in late October like the guy who was accepted up there, are not hearing back yet, because we received our invites later than that guy. I received mine early October and Don received his a few days after me. I did do quite a bit of stalking for this. But I'm anxious.

WOW I'm sure you did. But to support your theory I got my invite in mid-October too and haven't heard anything either...
Although with a sample size of <5 I don't how sound your theory is, but it's better than nothing.

Yep it's just the only consistent theory so far, but we'll see. I just hope I don't miss the call while taking my final..

Thanks for your theory Dr. Domo!! What you said makes sense. What day did you interview?

Congrats to those who got phone calls today! Many of my classmates are (already!!) gearing up to planning our awesome revisit weekend in mid-April, so hope to see you there! If you have questions on your mind, feel free to ask. There are quite a few of us on SDN.

And just want to re-emphasize, there are still several rounds of acceptances in the next 3-4 months, so don't let disappointment get to you, regardless of when you interviewed. Have a wonderful winter holiday, and go enjoy all the acceptances you're invariably gonna get from all those other great schools. 👍

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about how and how soon waitlists/rejections will be handled. I do know for a fact we interview through early March, so I imagine "it ain't over til it's over" is highly relevant... Best of luck to everyone! :luck:

do you know anything about if/when/how many more invites are coming out?

I did some digging on last year's thread. These are the dates where people posted news starting with the first round of acceptances. 10/17- acceptance, 19 (rejection letter), 20 (acceptances), 25 (waitlist), 27(acceptance). Since last year acceptances started in October, it may be different this year but it's at least something to go on. The post about the rejection letter on the 19th stated that the letter was sent out on the 17th (when the first acceptances came out), and since there were more acceptances 3 days after the first round, we may get some good or maybe some bad news later this week. Good luck to everyone!
