My experiences have been very similar to Sharpie. The term "gunner" as it is frequently used on these boards has a lot of negative connotations. I have yet to meet anyone who can be described as a gunner here. Speaking with 3rd/4th/5th year students it seems that gunnerish behavior isn't seen on the wards either. You'll often be working with one or two other med students on your teams which means everybody has opportunity to shine. Many of the 4th years I've talked to are happy with their clinical year experiences and the teaching that happens on the wards. There are so many opportunities here that you don't really need to outcompete anyone. People do set high standards for themselves but that isn't unique to Hopkins.

I completely agree with Sharpie and Pooghe. This is by far the friendliest, most cooperative school I have ever attended or visited, and by what I hear from friends at other schools all over the country, the collaboration and cohesiveness of the student body here is really unique and special.

It's frustrating to keep hearing "gunner" references, because you just see no evidence of them when you're here. It's hard to understand how this rep keeps coming back...I hope it gets gunned down soon 😉.

Good luck everyone, and congrats to all for coming out and considering this place. Still a lot of phone calls to be made and wait list movement can be substantial depending on the year.
 
I'm supposed to hear back from another school today. I'm hoping that an acceptance on their part will soften the blow of being rejected by Hopkins today. But it'll all be for naught if they wait to reject me tomorrow. So please Hopkins, please reject me today.

Or I can get rejected from both schools, in which case I won't think about it, I'll drink about it.
 
Just accepted at another school. Please bring down the hammer, Hopkins!
 
You mean when WE get accepted, you can teach me Portuguese, we can go to the Rio Olympics and then reminisce about stolen iPads at Walmarts. 😀:luck::idea:

Good to hear that the acceptances are coming in today. Although it's a bit strange that it was only an email and no call.

Hey guys I just got the acceptance email also!!!! But im wondering if it is a mistake!...because there was no call...

Congrats! I'm guessing all the e-mails were sent out then. Did it seem like a stock e-mail?

Donald Blake and diethylether, did your emails come at the exact same time, or did they have different timestamps?

In other words, did they email all acceptees in batch using mail merge (in which case anyone who hasn't gotten an email at this point will not get one), or are they writing it one by one and sending it off in sequence?
 
Its not a mistake! I just called! They said that they started doing emails because there were to many people to except via Phone!!!!!

AAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Donald, my email is time stamped 12:45. And yes it seems a bit form-y.

I'm wondering this, too, Donald Blake and diethylether. Could you compare timestamps for the rest of us waiting for the hammer to fall?

I doubt they would send off multiple emails so I think we're out of luck. Thankfully, I've got two acceptances I'm super-happy about it so it takes the sting out of it.
 
Accepted via email, interviewed 11/8. Also received at 12:45pm!
 
Hey guys don't give up hope yet. They might be doing emails in several batches, perhaps grouping several interview dates in each. We got this!

Guess it's time to move on 🙁 It was an honor to get the interview! And I'm already blessed with an awesome choice.

Congrats to those who've received acceptances so far. My classmates and I are looking forward to hosting you in mid-April and, again, are happy to answer any questions/concerns. Financial aid packages are usually awarded shortly before Second Look (as long as you submit your documents by the March deadline).

A few silver linings, in case this week's acceptances really are done:

- (I hope they don't do this this year, but) last year, people received post-interview acceptances all the way up til April.
- The waitlist was very active last year.

This could be true- I know Donald & I had the same interview date. So maybe this is just for our day?

Turkey12, at my interview in mid-December, Dr. White told us that we would hear back in "late January".

So far, considering the fact that none of our admitted SDN friends were December interviewers, I am still holding on to the hope that the emails for December interviewees have yet to be sent out. I really really would love to be able to go to Hopkins so much.

Hi Sharpie,

I was wondering, where do we stay over the second look days? I can't come on the 11th but I can come the morning of the 12th- am I going to be missing a lot?

You'll get an email with information about Second Look and all that jazz in the next few weeks. In the mean time, go join the Facebook group!
 
Congratulations everybody! I haven't heard anything and since my more impressive peers in my cohort were accepted already, I'll just start picking up the metaphorical pieces and move on. At least I still have this smile on my face! 😀
 
I interviewed the 30th of November... Haven't heard a word but still hoping for a better tomorrow
 
I really hope it is in batches... I interviewed December 14th.
 
anyone know when the hopkins interview season is over? are they still sending out invites?
 
I interviewed on 12/6 and was accepted today via email. They ask you to go online to view your decision.

Congratulations! I guess that is bad news for me... 🙁 So do you check your decision at the secondary application webpage? Also, do they send that email regardless if you are in or out and then you sign in to find out your status?! I am just trying to find out if I still should feel hopeful
 
I just checked the secondary page and my status hasn't changed. I interviewed November 9, so I'm assuming I'll get a wait list or rejection email soon. Hopefully they'll send it sooner rather than later so we all know our fate

Congrats! When did you receive your invitation to interview? Perhaps that's the date according to which they make decisions...
 
For those who are curious, I was accepted this week (!!!!!!!!!!!) via call on Monday, email today. I interviewed mid-December and got the invite sometime around Thanksgiving. Good luck everyone!!👍

Eh, I think you guys are assigning too much logic to a system that's often totally arbitrary and/or based on a million random things of which you as an applicant aren't aware. Maybe your interviewer turned in the evaluation later, maybe they didn't get to your file at that meeting, etc. No way to know and nothing to do but wait (and pray 🙂 ).
