Eh, I think you guys are assigning too much logic to a system that's often totally arbitrary and/or based on a million random things of which you as an applicant aren't aware. Maybe your interviewer turned in the evaluation later, maybe they didn't get to your file at that meeting, etc. No way to know and nothing to do but wait (and pray 🙂 ).

also, this. 🙂

Probably true. I guess trying to rationalize this ridiculous process has been my coping mechanism.

Director Mazza just told me they will finish sending the notifications today. She said we will receive an email when our status is updated at the secondary page. People that got rejected/waitlisted was via email or via status update?! Today is Friday, Friday, Friday ..!

Thanks for calling, Euzinha! When Director Mazza said they will finish sending the notifications today, did she mean the acceptance notifications, or the rejected/waitlisted notifications?

No idea! That is why I'm trying to figure out if ppl that were rejected received an email saying so or just a notification to check the status on the secondary page..

Waitlisted via status on my secondary page. No email though

Same here....

Me too. My status also only says "Completed", even though I just got the email telling me to log in to the secondary application website. I can't find the "Decision link" they are asking me to click on.

alternate listed. two in a row.

yep. rejected. 😛

+1.

Not surprised as I literally got my first acceptance on my way to the interviews here, so I wasn't really in the right mind set.

Also not sure my SO would have been ok with moving to Baltimore... 😳

Anyway, congrats to those accepted! 🙂

Waitlisted. Apparently only 3 people moved off the waitlist last year so things don't look so good...

Where did you hear this?

Valerie told us in the interview. After they implemented financial aid the number of people accepted off waitlist dropped significantly. Last year it was 3 people and the year before somewhere just a bit above that.

Not true at all! A substantial portion of our class came off the waitlist last year.

Congrats to all those who were accepted recently! We're busy planning the second look weekend and it's going to be awesome 🙂 Get excited!

I must have heard wrong then thanks for the clarification! This is encouraging!

From what I heard at my interview, around 25 people got off the waitlist last year. The year before last year 4 people got off the waitlist and two years before last year 50 people got off the waitlist. So yeah, no idea what the number will be this year.

Does anybody know how many people are waitlisted?

How many are waitlisted?

Not sure, but I would assume less than 60-70 on the WL. They already accept about 100 more than the class size is supposed to be, and I assume quite a number of the people accepted end up matriculating...but your guess is as good as mine.

I'd say ~1/3 of interviewees are waitlisted. Waitlists are usually grossly oversized, admissions offices like to keep their options open 😛

ZOMG ITS THEKDIZZLE! My idol. How cool would it be if we were classmates next year? Hopkins, be good to me!

Interview Invite for Feb 22nd! Awesome news! Does anyone know if I'll be in one of those "interviewing for waitlist spot" situations, considering how late in the season it is?

Congrats when were you complete?

Thank you! I was complete mid-to-late September I think. I wasn't expecting anything this late in the game, but I'm definitely not complaining.

Does anyone remember what they said about the grading at JHU during interviews? Is it strict P/F or does it have rankings too.

Sorry if a similar question has already been asked, but searching through 19 pages seemed inefficient to me.

I'm hoping to buy a ticket for a 6 pm AMTRAK train out of Penn Station (waaay cheaper than the other times listed). We're advised to plan on being at the interview until 5 pm; even if I do have the latest interview times and leave around then, would this give me enough time to get to the station?

Thanks!

You should be fine. Interviews tend to conclude well before 5 pm, and there is a free Hopkins shuttle that runs from Monument St/Broadway (just down the street from admissions office) -> Penn Station -> JHU Homewood. Runs every 15 minutes, and only takes about 10-15 minutes to get to Penn Station.

Hey did anybody send a thank you to their MS4 interviewer? If so, how'd you get their contact info?

so on their financial information packet, Hopkins said they don't have merit scholarships. So outside of that. How is their financial aid?

Two disclaimers:
1. I have no idea how their financial aid overall stacks up vs. other schools.
2. I have no idea if it might change substantially from year to year over 4 years. We'll see in a few months, I guess.

But based on my current situation and at least a few of my classmates', the generous package is very, very generous (we're talking full-tuition scholarships and then some).

From what I understand, Hopkins sends out two batches of acceptances, one end of January and one at the end of March. People who interviewed before January 10 were in the first batch and I assume the rest are in the second batch.

No, you won't be "interviewing for a waitlist spot". Last year, several people interviewed late and were accepted in early/mid April. But it was still somewhat unfortunate, because they couldn't make it to Second Look. Hopefully the last "regular" acceptances will be sent out earlier this year.. 🙄

Yup. Based on my current situation it is very generous need based aid.

But I have a question. I am married and my wife works and will probably continue to do so. So will that lessen my financial aid?

woohoo, just received the email about hopkins' second look weekend!!

except, i found it in my spam mail o_o, almost deleted it... so check out your spam folder if you haven't already!

+1 also wondering this.

And this is a random one, but where do most students study? Armstrong? At home? I thought I remember from interview day that the library doesn't stay open very late so I'm curious. But maybe I'm just imagining things 🙄

Preclinical is strictly P/F (pass=70%). Even if you score below 70, it's a simple matter of retaking the exam and you'll get the P on your transcript with no one the wiser. We don't hear anything about rankings, and I actually have no idea if we're internally ranked (which I guess is kind of indicative of how much it figures into academic life here). Perhaps one of my classmates in this thread has more knowledge on this issue.

Students study all over. AMEB is the big one and it's open 24/7 to students -- yes, that means you're totally free to spend some late nights up in the anatomy lab with your cadavers! 🙂 People also study in various buildings on the medical campus (school of public health, nursing, the hospital itself, etc.) and some make the trek to Homewood and Peabody. You have access to all of these. A lot of people also go to cafes on campus and in other parts of the city. The 929 residence has its own study spaces/conference rooms/patio.

A side note about AMEB: I can't emphasize enough how (unexpectedly) central this building has been to my med school experience. The administration has made it known repeatedly that this building is *ours* and that we are entrusted to use it as we please (in a responsible fashion, of course!). I thought before coming here that AMEB would be a place to attend lecture and study, and it is, but it functions as a kind of social hub here as well. We take coffee breaks at the cafe on the ground floor. We have beer and pizza with faculty and residents every week on the second floor during our own version of Friday "happy hour." We hold tons of relatively impromptu social gatherings -- there was a Superbowl party in one of the college rooms this past Sunday (alcohol included!) and the admin and building manager were down with it.

*Edit: To clarify, AMEB = Armstrong Medical Education Building 🙂

Awesome!! Thanks so much for the helpful response 🙂

Does anyone know if Hopkins only does need-based financial aid?

Hey guys, do we have to accept our acceptance? Send a deposit...sign something??
