So, Ben Carson is THE childhood hero of mine. Reason I started getting interested in medicine.

Is there anything I can do to try and just shake his hand/get a picture taken with him during second look? And yes...I'm asking seriously.

Based on the size of the 2017 Facebook group, it seems like this year there's going to be little waitlist movement... I think it's already at 110 members

But quite a few of them are current med students being there to answer questions. And they said that there's another batch of acceptance coming out soon, so don't worry just yet.

Hey, just wanted to say best of luck with accomplishing that. I can relate.

Back in the summer of 08 I was interning at Cold Spring Harbor. James Watson was the reason I was drawn to science. I wanted so badly to at least get a picture with him (would have been an awesome Facebook pic ). I wish I could have at least had a conversation with him, he seemed like such a genuine individual who truly understand how the world worked based on God given genetic gifts (and defects in some cases).

Unfortunately, Watson was run out of CSHL for some reason? Shame, and I never found out why. Would have been nice to meet him...

Apparently he's retiring from medicine sometime soon, which is a whole different story altogether. 🙄

He does a first-year lecture though, so if you come to Hopkins, you will meet him in October. Period.

Not sure if anything's planned for Second Look. I need to check with my classmates.

Based on the schedule, there definitely isn't anything official with him.

I just got an e-mail saying my decision is available online and I was admitted! (I hope it's not an error I did not get a phone call)

For those waiting for Financial Aid info, the FinAid website states the date of notification for first year students is April 1st. Hopefully we hear then!

Also, a note to accepted students who have their ISIS log-in, make sure you check ISIS to see if all of the requirements have been met.

Hoping to hear really good news from Fin Aid!

When did you recieve your ISIS account?

For anyone that requested to stay with a current student for second look, have you received anything about that?

Same...haven't heard anything yet. Hoping to hear something this week about hosts.

So today is the date for releasing of financial aid packets for new students. If anyone gets any news please post 🙂

Same nothing here

For what it's worth, a fin aid newsletter that just went out to current students claims the award notice date is April 4. Not sure how accurate this is but know that awards are going out shortly!

Thanks for the possible heads up.

Just got mine as well. Disappointing - - on par with Stanford's in terms of scholarship amount, but all the loans are unsubsidized! And the package doesn't even cover the entire COA. I've heard people clamor about Hopkins' generous aid... At least Stanford offers a combo of subsidized loans (with both 0 and 4 percent interest).

This seals the deal for HMS who has by far had the most generous aid. Hopefully one of you waitlisters will get my spot here!

Got the aid packet as well!!! So a question for current students: If our financial situation does not change, is it safe to assume a similar packet every year?

How long do we have to accept or decline? I don't want to accept yet when this doesn't even cover the full cost of attendance?

I'm kind of surprised and definitely disappointed that my financial aid did not cover the full cost of attendance. My family is not at all well off financially, and had I decided to attend, there would be no way we could contribute what JHU asked of us. Anyways, I withdrew after receiving my estimate. Good luck to those on the WL!

Very discouraged. Hopkins was my number one choice but no scholarships at all. Could it be because I submitted 1-2 documents past the march 15th priority deadline. I would have loved to go here but it is seriously impossible for me to come up with anything near the range of income I am required to pay myself.

BUMMER 😕

Anyone know anything about the Kneale loan? Does it accrue interest while you're in school?

The 929 rates are all online. But you can get much better deals using the housing site that was provided.

I'm pretty sure the gap in COA and financial aid package can be filled in with grad plus loans - not the most affordable but doable if you really want to go Hopkins.

+1 I'm guessing at least after second look? I'd like to have the finaid meeting first before accepting everything now. If anyone has a more definitive answer, please advise!

can anyone share what their award money was compared to their expected parental contributions? Im stll waiting to hear back and im wondering if i have any chances of receiving awards

Has anyone figured out their housing plans yet?

I heard most first year students stay at 929 but during the tour it seemed incredibly expensive for the size.

Just wondering, did anyone receive a physical acceptance package in the mail? Not sure if I'm supposed to expect anything...

Any idea when the next batch of acceptances will come out?

They said a while back that the last batch would be sent out anytime between April 25th and the end of April but yesterday the facebook page mentioned that the last adcom meeting "will be in a few days" so not sure if they will just sit on the responses until the 25th or if they changed the time frame and will send out the batch early
