They said a while back that the last batch would be sent out anytime between April 25th and the end of April but yesterday the facebook page mentioned that the last adcom meeting "will be in a few days" so not sure if they will just sit on the responses until the 25th or if they changed the time frame and will send out the batch early
Has anyone from the interview group of February 22nd heard back?

I wanted to dislike this school.

But alas, I couldn't 🙁 Awesome second look, awesome student body. Tough decisions to make. I don't think I will end up going because it just might not be best place for my family, but it will be hard to turn down.

Great meeting you all!

Also, I'm really bad with names, but the guy I was talking to on the bus ride to the aquarium about my writing, please message me. Forgot your name and trying to keep in touch with as many people as possible. Also, hit me up if we connected and I haven't facebook'ed you yet 😉

/weird request, haha

Wherever you go, you'll be great. You'll be able to go into any specialty and do what you want. Best of luck!

I remember a past posting saying it is possible to take an extra year to complete an MPH at no additional cost. Is this the case for an MBA as well?

Thought it might be of interest to some SDNers on here that I got an official decision e-mail today and interviewed March 7.

I'm on the alternate list--assuming that it's the same as it has been previous years, it tells me that they can't tell me my rank, but since there's also no mention of "lower tier/end" of the WL, I guess that means I'm in the "upper" half maybe? I.e. on the WL and not rejected since their terminology is a bit different than most other schools.

I also interviewed March 7 and got the same alternate list email (no mention of lower tier). Is the WL tiered? Where did you get the info?

I looked on past threads on SDN for more information about the alternate list, which implied that they don't give out explicit rejections, just "lower tier" WL that is practically the same thing.

The tier information, though, came from threads from 2007 or even earlier, so I was assuming things hadn't changed since then, but if anyone has more updated info otherwise, I'm sure we'd be happy to hear it!

Got the same wait-list message today. I don't think its a valid assumption to make though.

I just withdrew from Hopkins to go to Penn. Hope this opens up a slot for you waitlisted folk!

Does withdrawing from Penn open up a waitlist spot at Hopkins? That would be cool.

Woops. I see how that could be misunderstood. Fixed the wording in my original post. Good luck, everyone!

Anyone know when final transcripts are due? I still have a pre-req that I need to complete over the summer, but it'l be at another institution apart from my undrgrad. I'm wondering if I should send my final undergrad stuff now, or what until everything is done.

Anyone know when a deposit is due? It seems strange that they haven't asked for anything yet

Last year, all final transcripts/prereq requirements were due Aug 1.

I don't remember there ever being a deposit. To hold your seat you just need to withdraw from all your other schools by May 15.

I also remember being confused by the lack of communication from the admissions office last year, but they actually do send out a pretty comprehensive registration packet sometime during the summer, after all the waitlist movement is done and the class set.

I just withdrew. I think I need a drink.

Uh, I mean...I hope someone else gets my spot! 🙂

Anyone know when orientation is? I want to think about a good date for moving in.

August 12th is the first day of orientation. If you're planning to live in 929, they have leases starting August 1st.

Yeah, but I don't think financial aid disbursements occur until August 12, which is strange.

Can someone comment on safety in the areas around campus? A friend sent me these recent security alerts from Hopkins and they are... disconcerting.

Hey MedAuthor.. I've seen you around these forums a lot.. i was with ya waiting for a potential acceptance at UC Davis. that was back in October! I know you really loved and liked it at JHU, but I really respect that you're doing what's best for you and your family. we need a lot more people like you! Mount Sinai is an incredible school and I have a few friends there that can attest to that. And NYC cmonnnnn..

I will not be going to JHU as well. I decided Baltimore and certain bents that the school has is not for me. But it preferences could change.. and maybe for residency? Good luck to you and everyone else!

In regards to safety in the Baltimore region, I've never had a problem and I've been around the campus for years. You have to be smart and not be using your smart phone in certain areas because they can get stolen but thats about it. No one I know has had a problem but we do get these notices from time to time so its something to be wary of. The campus has guard stations located at the street corners about two blocks before you even get to campus and the main streets you walk on if you live off campus are generally fine. Again, I'd say the solution would be to refrain from using your phone for the 10 minute walk to campus. If you don't feel comfortable walking, there is a shuttle you can take that will take you to your block if you live in the area south of the medical campus. If you live further away than that, you will probably just be taking a different shuttle that picks up about 2 minutes from your lecture hall.

JHopRevisit,

I know that ALL of the medical students have very good stats as far as GPA and MCAT, but is it possible to get in with anything less than a 3.8 GPA and and less than a 37 on the MCAT?

I'm sure there are a good number of people who got in with a MCAT score less than 37, but they were probably 34-36.

Anyone have a list of stops for the Johns Hopkins student shuttle? The one online isn't working.

Just to be clear, if we're already holding a spot at Hopkins, we don't need to inform them that we've decided to attend, right? We just need to inform the schools that we don't want to go to that we've decided to go somewhere else, right?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I was wondering if anyone could help me out with something. I have the license agreement in front of me for 929 housing. It's due pretty soon. However, I'm worried about possibly getting off some wait lists at other schools, and not being able to get out of this lease. I'm pretty deadset on going to Hopkins, but I don't know what could come my way in a few days. However, this agreement is due pretty soon, and I don't want to lose my rooms, as they seem to be going fast. Do you guys think they would let me out of this agreement, if I were to get accepted somewhere else on the 15th, and decide to go there? The starting date of the lease isn't until August.

I would postpone signing the lease until you are sure you are coming to Hopkins. 929 has little interest to let you get off scot-free once you sign the lease. You might find yourself in a situation where you need to find a person to take up your lease, etc. I can't speak for the situation this upcoming year, but last year, 929 did on a few occasions try to make itself seem more packed than it ended up being.. The "Super 2" anyone?

Also, I haven't had any issue with security this year and feel pretty safe on campus.

I'm just worried, because the deadline on it is coming up fast.

Once you sign a lease, it might be hard to break the lease if you come off the wait list somewhere else. I knew someone in this situation last year and she had to find someone else to take over before they would let her end her lease. Some places won't let you break a lease even if you find someone to take over.

Can you elaborate on the "Super 2"?

Well, I managed to get an extension on the lease deadline by about a week. So, hopefully, that's enough. If I haven't heard from any schools by then, that should be it.

Great to hear!

The gist of the "Super 2" floor plan was that you and your roommate each get a furnished and an unfurnished room. The floor plan looked identical to the 4 bedroom apartments though and this option was announced a couple months after they said that rooms were quickly running out. Can't blame the sales team for trying.

There were still vacant apartments at 929 this year, this might change for the upcoming year though since 929 will no longer be a brand new apartment and some current residents have renewed their lease.

+1 is there anything else we need to do before orientation in August? other than sending in our final transcript (and I'm guessing paying the bills later this summer).

Anyone know if Hopkins get days off for federal holidays?

Looking at the academic calendar, it seems we get days off for Labor Day, Thanksgiving Thursday/Black Friday, Winter Break, MLK Jr. Day, and Spring Break.

Hey, if you don't attend lecture, then everyday is a federal holiday. At least, that's how I see it, lol. I mean, you'll still watch the lectures online, but still.

For those who got the waitlist form, did you get a confirmation email? I sent mine a while ago, but I'm not sure if they got it

So, I have to ask. How do classes work when it comes to textbooks? I mean, do they give you a list, and you just buy them, and study them for the test like we're accustomed to? Or do most students not buy them, and just go by lecture notes? Are tests based on a general structure (ie, this test will cover chapters 1-4, etc.)? Thanks for any help.

No textbooks required. At the beginning of each block, we are given a packet of materials, i.e. lecture slides, narrative lecture notes, lab guides, etc. that contain everything (and more) that we need to know. Exams are usually at the end of each block, encompassing all the material in that block. Longer blocks may be broken down to have more assessments -- e.g. anatomy is 7-8 weeks long and has 3 midterms rather than a single final at the end of the 7 weeks (which would be overwhelming!). Each block publishes a very detailed syllabus so it is usually very clear what you need to know for the test.

Is the stuff that they give you really all you need, and is already factored into the tuition, or do you have to spend more to get them? Thanks for the help.

No, I didn't get a confirmation either.

From what I gathered from my host during second look, it seems as if the note packets were provided free of additional charge. If a current student could confirm this, that would be appreciated.

The note packets are provided free of charge and include all the slides/handouts for that block.

Hey, I just have a question for 929 residents. Is there a grocery store nearby? If so, how far, and how are the prices? Essentially, I guess, I'm asking how do you guys eat, lol? Thanks.
