did anybody else have their photo listed as "photo unavailable" when looking at the preview? I submitted the secondary but im worried whether it was just an issue with the server and they will be able to see it when reviewing it or the picture just doesnt work

I just submitted too, had the same "photo unavailable" message. I'm sure its just an issue with the website...given the problems today, that wouldn't surprise me at all. And even if it's a problem on our end, the photo was optional.

Hey guys, incoming M1 here... I'll be following this thread this cycle and try to post when I have a chance. Here are couple of tidbits that I want to share off the bat:

1) The MCW admissions office started using Facebook around Thanksgiving last year and they will most likely continue to get better at posting info about the cycle this time around. You should check them out at https://www.facebook.com/MCWAdmissions

2) As others have already said, the first hurdle towards getting an interview is to be placed in the "small pool" of applicants. Last year, notification of being pooled came out in late August.

3) The admissions staff really is a great group of people who want to be of assistance to you. If you have questions/concerns go ahead and contact them. Just remember that there are 1,000s of anxious pre-meds who apply to the school so please try to be patient when trying to reach them. Here's info on the many ways to reach them (email worked well for me last year): http://www.mcw.edu/medicalschool/ContactAdmissions.htm

Can we submit even if our letters haven't arrived yet?

Right now? I haven't checked, but it was working last night.

It was working intermittently last night - some could get in, some couldn't.

It hasn't worked at all this morning as far as I know.. I've tried every hour or so.

Just so you all know I think the website should be up and running now. I was able to submit using Internet Explorer instead of Mozilla.

Also my picture was showing up this time, so the few of you who submitted without the picture showing you may want to call the office and make sure they got it (if you care).

Thanks for the pic update. I submitted the secondary back when it showed as an error ("pic unavailable")...Just checked the preview now and it shows up. Nice.

G'luck.

This was such a pain. I would have rather written an essay on a website that worked than this stupid application. Whatever, it's done. Time to wait.

If we are submitting extra LORs, what are we supposed to put in the Title and Recommendation fields on the website? Its a little confusing to me for some reason.

For the title, I just used the same title as I put on AMCAS (School_LastName). I don't think it matters much.

What recommendation field? The only fields I see are description, title, and letter writer name.

I have a LOR question... when does AMCAS transmit our letters to schools? All of my letters are marked as received on AMCAS, but MCW has not received them. Is this an automatic process or do I need to do something to make this happen?

Its automatic. And on my secondary when adding extra LORs it says Title, Recommendation, Letter Type. I just put the AMCAS title in Title, then the letter writers name in Recommendation, and Letter Type has a pulldown menu.

called about this earlier this morning. they already have our letters but someone at the admissions office needs to personally verify them before they are marked as received (it's not an automatic process). said it would take a few business days.

Great - thank you so much! I try to ask here first before I call about things because I figure they are bombarded with phone calls this time of year :)

Another LOR question: They need one from Biology, Physics, or Chemistry. But I'm an engineering student and only got letters from my engineering professors because I had a much better relationship with them than my pre-req classes. Does anybody know if these would pass? I classified them as Biology on my AMCAS so I hope so :p

Call and ask! Always the best option because then you will know for sure - and if they make an exception for you they'll note it in your file so you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Anyone else still not received their secondary yet?

If our undergrad pre health committee is going to be sending out a packet of our letters which will ALSO include a premedical committee letter, do we choose the "One Premedical Advisory Committee Letter" option or the "Undergraduate Institution packet of letters" option?

I'm in the same situation. I chose the latter.

I picked former.

What I'm gathering is that secondary applications suck, and they ask the most ambiguous questions, lol.

lol.. well you didn't have anything to answer for this one did you?

OK, so I contacted the admissions office, and they told me to just pick the one committee letter option, and they said they'll just review everything that comes with it.

Anyone have any idea if the graduate school dean/chairperson letter is simply a statement they are aware of my application? Or is it supposed to be a recommendation as well?

I made mine a letter as well... my chairperson said basically said in his letter that he knows I'm applying to medical school and would like to recommend be because I'm awesome, etc... ;)

But now that I think about it maybe just a statement would suffice? Not really sure.

I also have a letter packet that includes: 2 letters from chem professors, 1 from a non-science, 2 from clinical, and 1 committee letter.

Can I just choose the option for the packet letter? Or even if I choose that option, do i have to include all the other authors of letters (besides the chem ones) in that option below where it says add any additional letters?

I am starting to get worried. I have gotten 6 other secondaries but none from MCW. Anyone else in this position?

I wouldn't worry. I was in a similar boat and received mine just a couple of days ago. You're good.

Did not get a email confirmation but my status does now say that I am complete

Pretty sure I got the secondary invite, but now I can't find it in my email account. Can someone please post the email address they sent it from? Thanks!

i saw on last year's thread that a 7 in any section of the mcat is an automatic rejection. does anybody know their mcat policy?--if they average, look at most recent, etc.

my most recent verbal was an 8, but averaged, it would be a 7...so i don't want to waste money on the secondary knowing it's hopeless...and i couldn't find anything on last year's thread or their website =/

well there's always that "email them and ask" option..

haha i planned on calling them tomorrow, but i thought i'd ask here in case anyone already knew beforehand...i wanted to try to bother the admissions office as little as possible =/

Uh oh :( That would be my PS, but I've already submitted. I called them a few days ago because I was curious and they wouldn't give me any definitive cutoffs or anything they just said that they look at the whole MCAT score as well as the subscores. Would you please let me know what you find out when you call?

most definitely. hopefully they'll give me a more definitive response

Thank you! That's probably my least favorite part of this... when they're deliberately vague. I wish they were required to release their information about cut-offs for interviews and such, but then of course they wouldn't make as much money off of all of us.

Oh well I just accept it as part of the process I guess...

yeah in my experience last year they were very transparent and helpful, one of the nicest admissions staffs I interacted with. :) now this summer on the wait list has been a different story, but I'll save that rant for another time..

In the past MCW took the highest subsection score across multiple MCATs to determine your score. So a {9,6,10} = 25 and a {8,10,8}=26 would end up being viewed as {9,10,10} = 29.

Ooh this would be awesome.... I would reach the magic 30 if they do it like this :D
