Agree to disagree

Words of an adcom, schools have the ability to sort amcas applications according to what is most important to them (eg. MCAT close to their average matriculant). I have a feeling they can even sort by keywords used. Kind of like how companies can search to only pull resumes with keywords they are interested in in online employment databases that hold thousands of resumes. NU will probably use all features available to cut to the chase quickly. Doubt date of submission will matter within the first couple of weeks.

Oh well! You just never know when someone is being serious on here 😀

Yeah sometimes sarcasm doesn't always come through clearly on forums like this. That's where emoticons come in handy. 😱

So, my father and I were exploring downtown Chicago on Monday and happened to stumble upon the Northwestern medical school campus. One of the MS4's began talking to us at a cross walk and gave us a brief tour of the facilities. He was extremely nice and helpful. This school is absolutely gorgeous and in the nicest part of Chicago. The medical center is so massive that you can't see it completely from the street. I was in Chicago to interview at Pritzker, but I think I fell more in love with Northwestern instead 😍 If I have no luck getting in here for med school, it will likely be my first choice for residency!

It's an acquired skill. If you spend enough time here you will quickly be able to recognize PMOD's sarcasm 😛

............where is this secondaryyyyyy

Okay nobody get excited, but I've been checking the Northwestern secondary login site every other day or so for the last month and it always said "site closed for the 2012 year." Today for the first time it doesn't say that anymore, and there is a place to log in! Maybe this means they're about to send out the secondary invites soon?

Also says it'll be down tomorrow, so maybe some last minute maintenance before they go out next week?

Is Northwestern going to have a class of 2017?

I joke, but schools have started interviewing already.

I have a feeling NU is not worried about being able to fill their class.

Either way, since I just completed everything now, I am glad I get a little bit of a break. 😉

Just received the secondary email this morning.

There are four essays. All 300 word limit.

1. Personal Characteristics. Given the distinctive educational philosophy and curriculum at FSM, describe how your personal characteristics and learning style would fit the institution.

2. Stress Management. Describe the coping skills (not problem solving skills) you use when confronted with difficult situations.

3. Non-Traditional Student. If you will have completed your education more than one academic year prior to matriculation in medical school, please describe your activities during that time.

4. Future Professional Plans. Describe the type of post-graduate training career that you envision. Be as specific as possible.

Good Luck Everyone!

Hah. I am so out of secondary mode. Luckily this does not seem too bad.

Yeah, I think Loyola's was worse in the essay department. Fee is $85 by the way. Done, and finally done with all secondaries.

I need some advice: My senior year of high school, I was suspended for one day because I violated the "closed campus" policy by going to a restaurant during the lunch hour. The suspension never went on my record, and it was not for any educational reasons. Do I still need to document it on the Northwestern secondary?

Lol, this is a riot.

But srsly, no it won't matter. AMCAS doesn't have a big file on every pre-med that comes through like people seem to think. What they know about you for the most part is what you tell them. Also, it's probably ok to not change your name on facebook. AMCAS is not a psycho stalker ex either 🙂

It is a stupid reason for suspension, and it was 8 years ago, but I think I'm going to put it on my application anyway. I think it's important to be completely honest, especially in this application process.

Not bad at all!

👍

I haven't received it either, but they don't screen.

Wait so is number 4 asking what we want to do as a doctor once we've graduated med school or? I'm just confused by the wording there.. That and the fact my brain is fried from secondaries hahaha

Yeah that was an oddly phrased question but I think it just wants you to discuss your future plans

Submitted! 👍 Now if only UMinn TC would send me their secondary I could be done!!

just got secondary as well!

Quick question: when it says what kind of post-graduate training we envision, is it talking about medical school? Like what kind of career do you envision yourself in? like academic medicine, health care policy, health administration, community/rural health. etc ?

That's what I think it's asking. I wonder if they prefer applicants with certain future plans like people who want to teach vs those who want to enter a private practice.

can someone who has received the secondary tell me how they phrase the questions regarding family members affiliated with the school? thanks!

No such questions on my secondary. Doesn't even ask if you personally have any direct connection to NU/FSM

Lies! Well, for MSTP, anyway.

MSTP Q's are: (200 words unless otherwise noted)
○ Why did you choose your undergraduate major? How does the subject appeal to you?
○ Name a scientific paper that you have read recently that had a strong impact on you and describe what impact it had.
○ Discuss a current unanswered question in biomedical research that you find particularly interesting and what research you would like to see done to address it.
○ What is the most gratifying research experience you have had to date and why? What was the greatest obstacle you had to overcome in research and how did you overcome it?
○ How do you envision your career after you complete your training, including residency and fellowship? What aspects of your life and career will be most satisfying? What frustrations can you envision in your future career, and how do you hope to handle them?
○ Please describe your current research interest as you plan your research training.(Limit your response to 400 words).*

* Asked twice, because someone messed up

Do you guys think that Northwestern will have a quicker turnaround time post-secondary submission regarding II's because they are kind of "behind" in the cycle?

I think I already know the answer....
