I had a similar experience with my interview as the two posters above. The questions were difficult and seemed standardized. I know there was at least 2-3 questions where I straight up couldn't answer or my answer was completely irrelevant (lol). Either way the interviewer said he would strongly support my application. He was a biochemist and an immigrant so we connected on those topics. It went well overall.

Good to know you got in!

A big congrats to you!!

I'm interviewing on the Nov 12/13 for MD/MPH. I believe I expressed interest in both- aside from touring the two facilities, are there major differences between the interviews? Any advice? Starting to freakout a bit....

Miami and Drexel are the only two places I've gotten interviews. Drexel is in January. Fingers crossed!

hunterjumper14. i interviewd 10/22 and havent heard back yet at all so i think we are up for 11/14 evaluation!

Anyone who interviewed md/mph on October 15th not heard anything back yet? I'm debating whether or not to send an email. I'm assuming they're swamped, and my app wasn't put in front of the Adcom this week. Aww well.

I also interviewed oct 15th, but for regular MD. I didn't hear anything, good or bad, but I saw that another member who interviewed that day got a response. Maybe they didn't get through everyone who interviewed that day. Do they send a response to everyone they look over? If so I'm just going to assume we will hear something on the next review date. It's going to be a long two weeks, I loved UM!

I think it's worth sharing that this was by far my toughest interview. My interviewer spent the whole hour asking me ''tell me about a time....'' questions. He then asked really tough follow up questions, probed about my own morals, and even asked for my stance on abortion. I took a very honest approach through it all, and justified why I felt the way I did about certain issues. At times, I made jokes, but he did NOT appreciate these. He was literally stone faced the entire time, and not once did the conversation deviate from the questions at hand. AND DESPITE ALL OF THAT, I was accepted.

So, moral of the story: don't get discouraged if you're having a rough interview. If you can stay level headed, you're golden! Good luck to all of you waiting to hear back 🙂

Wow, so tough interviews all around! That's so nerve-wracking but it's awesome that you were accepted! I guess it is hard to judge how the interview went from the hot seat...

Congrats to everyone that has been accepted so far!

When I submitted my interview date preferences I remember a screen came up with information on the interview. I remember it being important, but don't recall what exactly it contained. I figured I would be able to come look at it again later, but when I follow the link in my email I am directed to the screen to fill out my interview preferences again (which I've already done). Did anyone take a screenshot of the screen that comes up after submission. Or could you perhaps tell me if there is any relevant info on it. Thanks!

All the important info will be in the e-mail when they confirm the date. I don't remember that screen being relevant. Don't worry about it.

Update for yall: Accepted on Halloween! My phone call came at about 5:10pm. I interviewed on 10/12. That same night my roommate told me she's moving in with her BF, and that I have 30 days to beat it. Haha! At least she was nice about it. I think I would have been angry if not for that awesome phone call!

Right now I have three schools to choose from, and I'm heavily considering my state school and Miami. The interview went well for me. My interviewer was a researcher. It lasted a whole hour, so be prepared mentally for that. You will be asked quite a few ethical and hypothetical questions. Take your time answering these, because I felt like they were tricky, but with some thought, there was an obvious good/right answer. You will probably have lots of time to answer them. My interviewer was happy to repeat the questions for me.

The campus is about the largest I've ever seen. I asked some questions to a few random people around the campus, and all were friendly and polite. We met with about 12 medical students for an hour. In my experience, they were particularly friendly and close knit, about the most out of the 10 schools I've interviewed at (some last year, some this year). That is really encouraging. Miami seemed to have the best social atmosphere from the schools I've been to, and I've been to interviews all across the country and spectrum. Dean Weisman gave out very useful information about the school. He gave some very insider advice on financial aid stuff. The facilities appeared nice, including the medical wellness center which had a stunning view of the city.

The night before my interview I bar-hopped the South Beach scene. It's hard to describe how awesome this place is.

My state school is already in a great location, and I already do research at it, but I've lived in my home state my whole life. Oh well.

FYI, I'm a reapplicant, and didn't even get an interview at UMM last year. I have some ideas about what made the difference. Good luck to everyone considering UMM!

Anybody from the 10/31 round of acceptances get the acceptance package in the mail yet?

Has anyone had any luck w/ LOI or updates pre-interview?

Got an amazing scholarship letter today! :soexcited: I thought scholarships were sent out in March/April so this was definitely a big surprise. The letter was postmarked 11/3.

+1 Just got a $20k scholarship today! Even being OOS, that makes UMiami cheaper than my state school.

Thanks!

15K is still a lot. I have several friends who are first years and that's more than they got. Congrats to everyone!!! :highfive:
LOL Obviously Im joking. Im THRILLED with that amount! Congrats to you too! 😀

Wow, that's great guys! Congrats on the acceptances and on early scholarship info!

Congrats to all the accepted applicants! I got a late start on my secondaries and am debating whether it is it too late to submit a secondary at this point in the application cycle. I plan on applying to the MD/MPH program as an OOS applicant. Any thoughts?

During my interview day they told us if we had applied MD only it was not to late to apply MD/MPH (this was on 10/22). That being said, the MD secondary for Miami was the longest of the 19 programs I applied to... I think it was 12 questions, although a few were "list a chronology of your clinical/volunteer/etc experiences" which didn't take quite as long as the essay questions. I guess if you have the money and the time I'd go for it so you don't miss the opportunity to go to this school. It's an awesome place!! It is late but I'd say it's worth a shot if your numbers are around UM's.

To everyone who has been accepted: CONGRATULATIONS and welcome to our UMMSM family 🙂

To everyone still waiting for that call...don't ever ever give up! I interviewed last year in December, I was accepted in April. They can accept you at any time! Don't be afraid to email or call the admissions office with any updates you have, and send some thank you letters after interviews. The more contact you have with them, the more they will remember you (and maybe accept/invite you to interview just to get you to shut up 😉 )

Wooooooo Miami!

Apologies if this was previously discussed in the thread...

Does anyone know if there's a way to check your status online without calling the admissions office? I got a complete email a while back and then crickets.

No. There's no status page, you'd have to call.

Has anyone had any success with letters of intent pre-interview?

Thanks.

I sent an update letter last month... They acknowledge receiving it then ask a few questions but that was all.

Did they extend an interview invitation after you sent the letter? Is your MDapps updated?

II today! I'm kind of amazed, I was complete 7/18 and had basically given up on UM. For those of you still waiting to hear, there are still open interview dates in November and December plus early 2013, so still tons of time!

Yea I was surprised by that too, but I got a II from another school on a Sunday, guess they send them out whenever

Complete 9/21, 33Q, 3.65/3.7, good ECs, IS, still no word about an interview.

Here's to hoping I hear something soon!

Where is the in-state love? I wonder what the ratio IS/OOS will be at the end of this year, now that UM is no longer funded by the state. Not working in my favor :scared:

Yay congrats!! This is inspiring. I'd kind of lost hope with Miami. Are you IS or OOS?
