2013-2014 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

Oh God where it said "prefer to be called" I read it as "prefer to be called at" and entered in my phone number. Now it keeps calling me by my phone number. I'll email them I hope they don't laugh at me 🙁

:laugh::laugh: I needed a good laugh. Thank you.

Also, I'm sure they'll understand your mistake.

Good laugh indeed :laugh::laugh:

This the funniest thing I've read in so long...

I had like...the saddest lol session when I saw my printed app. Especially because it had my phone number + last name above my giant stupid picture. Ugh I felt so embarrassed writing that email we'll see what they say Monday

The people I spoke with at the Dartmouth Admissions Office were REALLY nice and helpful, so I am sure they will help you sort it out. (I am also sure this is far from the most ridiculous thing they've ever seen)

So coming from CA for interview, is Lebanon airport the closest one? I really have no idea where to begin to make travel arrangements...

I'm flying over to Logan Airport in Boston and using Dartmouth Coach to get to Hanover. Lebanon flights are pretty expensive

has anyone been able to speak with them to confirm their interview date? I left them a voicemail, but haven't gotten a response yet.

You were right, I emailed about how embarrassed I felt and they emailed back "We'll fix it for you - and don't be embarrassed it happens a lot!" 🙂

about how long did they take for you?

II! Complete July 3rd. I thought they had passed me over! So psyched!

I am so frustrated. I have been sitting on this app for 1.5 weeks because I can't think of something that wasn't included in my primary application that would be important for them to know! I tried revising my UC Pritzker app, but I already discussed most of my "diversity" in my primary... is any one going with a "why I think this is a good fit for me" response? 😕

I think a "why Dartmouth" would be fine since it'll demonstrate that you've taken a serious look in their program and that you're not just blindly cutting and pasting essays from other secondaries

I wrote about what I envision for myself in my future career, including what type of medicine i am inclined to practice, where I would like to end up, etc. I think its important to show that you have an idea of what you want to do with your career and why

Question: does dartmouth have video recorded lectures? I have conflicting data on this.

This question was asked a while ago but as a current student I'll say that they do record most lectures. But it's not a video recording, it's the slide show with the lecturer's voice playing. However, this year they implemented a new attendance policy which now makes somewhere between 60-80% of the classes in any given week required. The recorded lectures are used for review and not as an excuse to skip class.

Good luck guys!

Getting the silent treatment even though this school was the first school I was complete at.

been a while for me too. anyone know if they accept updates?

I'd save them for after an II. Dunno the specific policy at this school but generally, schools are probably too busy looking through apps to put any substantial weight on updates pre-interview. Just my 2cents

Long time lurker, first time poster. Just wanted to help with info 🙂.

Complete August 6th
II on August 16th!

Interview invite this morning as well!

Greetings everyone! Dropping by to add to the chaos:

Secondary submitted: 8/12
File complete:8/27
II: 9/5

Three dates offered for interview: 9/26, 10/3, 10/8
Best Wishes!

Hi guys! Did any of your status page look different from before?

I don't remember how it previously looked like, but I know for sure that the main greeting phrase on the status page was in green and said something different.

Now the phrase is in red and it says:
Thank you for applying to the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth

Right below the big red phrase it says:
Your secondary application has been received and is in process.

Does this mean that they are going over my application currently to make a decision? This makes me nervous eek!

I'm pretty sure mine has said that since ~ July 3rd, so just be aware that it may not mean an imminent decision 🙂

Are people staying at Dartmouth Inn for their interview or do you guys know a cheaper alternative?

Depends on how ghetto you want to be...but when I hiked the AT (which goes right through town/campus), I stayed with some really nice locals. You can get a list of people that offer rooms free of charge at the visitor center or the co-op. I have no doubt they'd take in a visiting student just as easily as a really dirty, stinky hiker. I've also stayed at the Chieftan Motor Inn, which at the time was the cheapest option.

I'm staying with a student host from their link in the invite email. She seems really cool. Flying into Logan, then Dartmouth shuttle to campus.

Is anyone else who is trying to access the secondary having issues? I'm getting an error saying the server is not responding.....

Just think it's really awesome that you hiked the AT. Didn't know it passes thru Hanover. But if I'm accepted, will definitely try a thru-hike toward there, hopefully reached Hanover before matriculation.

Me too! I can't access the website at all. I hope they fix it.

Super awesome that you through-hiked. I hiked Maine in high school over 7 weeks, and had a blast. I also hiked near Mt. Washington the following summer for a multiday hike.

I remember hearing about a hilarious "No unicycles, or else" sign on the trail near Dartmouth.

Love AT culture + trail magic.

Interviewed today. The people at Dartmouth were super nice and had a great sense of humor. The interviews were very relaxed but as always it's a good idea to know your application forward and backwards and be up-to-date with current health care events.

Awesome! What kinds of healthcare-related discussion came up, if you don't mind sharing?
