2013-2014 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Been complete since 7/22 I guess no news from Dartmouth is good news at this point

II just now! I was complete on 7/1. OOS, nontrad. Interview dates available are in December. Thanks, Dartmouth!!

complete 9/16, II 10/4, interview 11/14

I apologize if this has been mentioned, but does anyone know how receptive Dartmouth is to in the area requests? I am interviewing at UVM and actually staying with a relative in Hanover.

I have been complete since July 17th.

I also have an interview at UVM and sent an email to Dartmouth (almost two months ago). They said they'd add it to my file but I never heard anything after that.

Just got an II yesterday... does anyone have any suggestions for getting from Boston to Hannover that is not via the Dartmouth Coach? Or is that the only option?
Thanks!

connecting flight from Boston to Lebanon airport

Any info on how many interviews or offer letters they sent out already?

connecting flight from Boston to Lebanon airport

This actually isn't a bad experience... It's tiny plane (literally tiny, I didn't realize it would be that tiny until I saw it). It fits only 10 people (if that) and you can see all the pilot controls and everything. The airport is tiny too and there are only 2 taxi companies in the area. One of them is run by one woman who drives her car as a taxi (I think).

II!!!! Yay renting a car and driving to Hanover for 12/12 interview 😀

any new II's lately? if so, when were you complete?

I just received an II, scheduled for 12/5. I was complete on July 8th

Has anyone found any value with in the area emails to this school or updates of continued interest? Been complete since late July but still remaining hopeful after these posts!

Not sure but I sent an update a few days ago so I'll let you know if I hear of anything.

All of these July complete II's are really getting my hopes up! 🙄

if it helps keep hope alive 🙂

II 10/21, scheduled for 12/5 . . complete 7/18.

Wish more schools would start giving interviews to people who have been waiting for 3+ months. It'd make me feel more comfortable that I haven't already been silently rejected everywhere. 🙂

Got my II on 7/8 on the same day I submitted my primary. Been waiting since then so I'm not sure what that means.

Haha no problem... I just wanted to double check. Thankfully it looks like they've started re-reviewing some of us who were early completers, so there's still some hope! Good luck.
Haha yeah I just joined the forum and that's what happens when I try to use the cool lingo I guess. That's good news, thanks!

I thought it was confusing too when I first joined...II could easily stand for both terms!!! Don't know how that lingo got started

I wouldn't worry too much. They said only a few people would hear back in October and the rest would hear back in January.

complete since 7/22 and complete utter silence since then lol..

I know Dartmouth does silent rejections but if they don't want me, they could at least send me the rejection email already. It shouldn't be that hard considering I, like many others who haven't heard a bird's chirp from Dartmouth, paid them $125.

I find it hard to believe that no one will hear back Nov/Dec. I know they used to wait until Jan for virtually everyone, but why would they give out Oct acceptances and then just stop? This isn't Early Decision or anything.

Really? I didn't know they do silent rejections. I wonder when we can consider ourselves rejected then, if people who we're complete in July are still getting interviews ?

Yeah, a current student said that they don't do silent rejections (post #305, pg. 9) and that no news is good news. Rejections started this year and last year in mid-October.

At least... I hope that's the way it goes. Dartmouth is my super-reach school, so I'm happy for every day that goes by without a rejection e-mail! It brings me one day closer to a potential interview. 😉

Yes, thanks for clearing that up. And just to clarify, no news is good news both pre-invite and post-interview. Rejections ARE going out pretty actively right now. If you have interviewed and not heard anything back within about 4 weeks, then you are somewhere in the middle of the pack, which means you are still being actively considered.

Does anyone know if Geisel is P/F during the first two years? For some reason I thought I looked this up but the space next to them is blank on my records document. :S Thank you so much!

Yes, they are P/F. 😀

"At this time, the Faculty of The Geisel School of Medicine (following considerable student input) have approved a system, proposed by students, in which all courses during the first two year are graded Pass-Fail. Clerkships and electives in the final two years are graded Honors-High Pass-Pass-Fail, with the exception of the required Year 4 courses which are Pass-Fail."

Hey everyone!

For Updates/LOI, should we email a PDF or snail mail them in?

I sent an update after my interview via email with attached PDF and received a pleasant response saying it was added to my file.

Does anyone know the chance of acceptance once you interview here? According to MSAR, they interview ~750 people for 80-90 spots so I'm guessing they accept <200. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems like a very abysmally low chance of getting in post-interview 🙁
