2013-2014 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know the chance of acceptance once you interview here? According to MSAR, they interview ~750 people for 80-90 spots so I'm guessing they accept <200. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems like a very abysmally low chance of getting in post-interview 🙁
Interview ~800
Accept ~270
Enroll ~90

I'd say that's pretty typical for chances at most schools post-interview. Good luck!

I sent an update after my interview via email with attached PDF and received a pleasant response saying it was added to my file.

I will tell you this, they sent me handwritten letters and I sent then hand written interest. If I had to choose, I would snail mail a handwritten purposeful letter. They seem quite nostalgic and receptive to thought out personal communication. imo

Yes, they are P/F. 😀

"At this time, the Faculty of The Geisel School of Medicine (following considerable student input) have approved a system, proposed by students, in which all courses during the first two year are graded Pass-Fail. Clerkships and electives in the final two years are graded Honors-High Pass-Pass-Fail, with the exception of the required Year 4 courses which are Pass-Fail."

See p. 11 of the 2013-2014 handbook:

Ah, thank you so much! That clarifies things!

Have been complete here since mid July. Has anyone had any success with a pre-interview letter of interest?

What time does interview day end? I am trying to get my travel plans set.

Thanks

They have an optional tour at 3:30, but if you skip that, you could be done anywhere between 2:30 and 3:30. It depends on when your interviewers are available.

Just got a surprise II! complete in early July so I definitely wasn't expecting this!

The rumor I heard is that they give each application a score then rank all applicants. As time goes on they slowly start giving more II's to the people nearer the top and sending rejections to the people nearer the bottom. This is all from idle gossip with other interviewees, so I don't know what to make of it...

They told us at interview day that this happens post-interview... Though they probably use the same thing though pre-interview.

Accepted via email about 40 minutes ago! I can't believe it!! Interviewed 2 weeks ago!

Congrats!!!! So exciting, what a beautiful prestigious place!
PS- I'm really excited about Dmouth

Has anyone had trouble getting ahold of the admissions office? This week I've tried both emailing and calling to schedule my interview but I haven't received any sort of response and Im starting to get anxious

how long after completed application to get interview or rejection?

So, if I interviewed a month ago, and haven't heard anything (while apparently people who interviewed 2 weeks ago are getting accepted), that's, like, a really bad sign?

I don't think you should be worried. The student tour guide I had on interview day said there was almost 6 months between her interview and outright acceptance. I mean, it may mean that you're not at the very top of the candidate ranking list, but you're definitely not near the bottom (or you would have been rejected).

Keep on hoping!

i interviewed 2 months ago and still haven't heard anything haha

OMG ACCEPTED VIA EMAIL RIGHT NOW! Today's been such a horrible day so far, and getting an acceptance today definitely feels good.
Congrats!! Soooo jelly!

I interviewed a month ago, but I'm not expecting to hear for a while. It seems like Geisel can take as long as they please with releasing decisions....

I recently received an invite at Geisel for early December, and I am quite excited!

Does anyone know what percentage of interviewed applicants are ultimately accepted? (not matriculated but accepted)
Most recent available stats:

Applied: 4467
Interviewed: 798
Accepted: 267
Enrolled: 87

No it's not. The guy who gave the talk on interview day (forgot his name lol) said that no news is good news from Dartmouth. Basically everyone gets ranked between 0 and 1000 post-interview. Dartmouth's big asset is its small class size, so they are very stingy with acceptances. The very top interviewees will get offers right away, while the very bottom interviewees will get rejected immediately post-interview. Most offers go out January and the following months. Eventually, sometime in the spring, the admissions office will get to the middle of list and everyone will know their status by that point and the class will have been filled.

Thank you!! I'm super excited about it myself! Loved everything about my interview experience!

first rejection of the season just a few minutes ago, complete late July MCAT = 35 GPA > 3.9 🙁

sorry to hear that.

I guess I should be getting my rejection pretty soon too since I had a late July complete date.

Uh oh ... Guess mine is coming today. Also complete late July with comparable stats.

Rejected today (pre-interview). Complete > 4 months ago. Not surprised, but really disappointed as it was my top school. Previously sent in update letter (publication) and letter of interest.

If I get past this round of rejections, maybe that means interview later on?

where did you send in a letter of interest/update? I'm thinking I might do the same. Did you just send to the admissions email address?

Feel bad posting this after the string of rejections...interview invite this morning. My first of the cycle so needless to say iam beyond excited!

Congrats! WHen were you complete

Congrats on the acceptances! I was complete on 9/7 and just absolute silence since.... its a bit confusing considering Geisel is one of the further long shots for myself. although I have seen people on here that were complete after me and have receive rejections already... no news is good news?
