I did. I was told that the policy was under revision, but for this cycle, it remains. Was told I could provide a letter describing my situation and that it may be helpful for subsequent applicants subsequent cycles. Helpful...

Sorry to see this guys - I'm pretty sure they've been phasing this rule in over the last couple of years and they seem set on enforcing it. I'm starting my second year at Hopkins and did all of my pre-reqs at CC (and then some). For the current incoming class I know there are a few that did CC but I think they're starting to get strict on this. Kind of disappointing and not a great way to build diversity in my opinion. Not everyone can go to Harvard right out of high school...
 
Where did you find the rule about no CC credit in writing? I haven't found it on the website yet. I took gen chem, my first bio, and math through cal I (all dual-enrollment) at what was a CC when I started but became a state college before I left... I'm not sure how that would be looked at.
 
I was a volunteer research assistant... would you put this as an extracurricular activity or volunteer activity?

I would put it as research if you are lacking (categorically on the app,) or if you don't have alot of extracurricular but are okay with regards to research, then put it as extracurricular.
 
How long after verification did people receive the secondaries?

I just found out about this rule too... it's in the secondary application instruction.
This news is pretty brutal guys... 🙁

Honestly if you're a strong candidate I would still apply. Worst case they reject you. Best case you get invited for an interview and you could contact admissions at that point to verify they're OK with your pre-reqs. I know some people got in last cycle with CC pre-reqs even with this policy in place... and I know at least one or two of those were just asked to retake one of those pre-reqs at a university (but not all of them). I got in two cycles ago with all my pre-reqs at CC. They seem to be enforcing the rule more now, but still might be worth it if you really want to go here and are OK with the possibility of throwing away a secondary fee. If you're a really strong candidate they might be willing to look the other way.... but don't come to me looking for your money if they really hold firm with the no CC rule this year 🙂

I really hope they decide to change this policy. There are lots of reasons people take CC classes, and there are lots of ways to still prove you can handle a heavy academic load.
 
On the 2ndary, where do I list my research experience? Under employment or Other Experiences or ECs?
 
I am a chemical engineering major and haven't had much time to do humanities classes in college. How strict is Hopkins with what classes are allowed to count for this requirement? Will any history courses such as European History count?

Per Hopkins Admissions site:

"iii. HUMANITIES, SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

The study of the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, is an essential foundation for the study and practice of medicine (24 semester hours). Please see ii. Communication Skills under Additional Requirements, below.

These disciplines foster broad understanding of humankind and the increasingly diverse cultural and social environment of our world. "
 
No secondary received yet. Applied on the 12th. 🙁
 
I haven't gotten the secondary yet for this school, despite being complete on 7/10. Do they screen, or should I submit an inquiry?

Also - this page seems to be glitchy for me at the moment - can't see previous posts on thsi thread. Problematic?

So you basically create an account on that website to complete the secondary. I don't know if you have to wait for this email, but there is no information in this email that you need to use when creating an account.

For service and volunteer work, are you guys putting more than what was in your primary? Also, what do you think counts as major? I've had a bunch of small volunteer actions and a few bigger, every week ones. I didn't include the small ones in my primary, but the 12 places in the secondary make me think they want more. Thoughts?

On the secondary, there is a section that says "Other Experiences and Interests." The description of this tab is:

"List your major unpaid community service and volunteer activities following entrance to college, and indicate your degree of involvement:"

Would that mean I do not list my hobbies anywhere on the secondary? My hobbies are foreign language learning, blogging, writing articles for websites, reading, fitness, and so forth.

But these are certainly not community service or volunteer activities. Do I therefore exclude them from my secondary?

If you scroll down in that section, there is a separate part for listing the following:

List below your extracurricular activities, hobbies, interests and travel following entrance to college and indicate your degree of involvement:

+1. I submitted on July 16 and I haven't gotten anything other than the "Thank you for your application" email.

I'm a Canadian applicant and fairly new to AMCAS so any help would be absolutely incredible.

Hopkins says it wants 24 units from Humanities/Social Sciences and Behavioural Sciences. I know this is intentionally left open to interpretation, but would my Psychology courses count as Social/Behavioural Sciences?

If they're strict on requirements (and they seem to be considering the posts on the 2012 - 2013 thread which I just found), I would rather know beforehand and invest the time in another secondary app.

Another poster on last year's thread mentioned that Bio/Chem/Physics/Math were seen as Science courses and everything else was non science. Does this mean that Psychology would also fall into non science for a reference letter?

I'll be emailing them but wanted to post here as well to have all my bases covered

Yes and yes - your psychology courses would fall under the "Humanities/Social Sciences and Behavioural Sciences" umbrella and letters of reference from psychology professors would also fall into the non-science category.
 
Does it say that on their website? Do you mind sharing the link please? I can't find this information.

When I applied two years ago (as a Canadian applicant) they counted psych as social science and accepted my psych (albeit psych research) letters as science -- but you should contact the office yourself to confirm as things change from year to year.

Congrats! Those are pretty strict conditions though. When were you complete?
