The panel interview was definitely tougher than all the traditional interviews I went on. I didn't really enjoy it or thought I did a good job during it. But, it was very laid-back--they're just wanting to get to know you and see how you work in a team I guess.

Are the northwestern interviews open file or closed file? Thanks!

Gotta gotta II II !!!! 😀

October 4th! I'm excited; the campus is absolutely gorgeous and I love the people! I go to evanston every year for a conference and seriously love how welcoming everyone is. It's so close to Chicago, as well!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the medical school is actually in Chicago, not Evanston 🙁

Haha ok. The big city does intimidate me since I was born a small town girl, but still super excited to interview here 😀
I worked at NU as a research assistant for two summers. Feinberg is in a really pretty, really safe part of the city. It's definitely a busy area, but you're right between LSD and Michigan Ave.

Does Feinberg have a place in their secondary to put in updates to your primary application??

Do you think Northwestern is receptive to in the area emails? Has anyone had success with them? 🙂

Wait...really? I did not know this. I kind of just assumed it was in Evanston.
Nope, it's in the Streeterville neighborhood of downtown Chicago. One of the nicest parts of the city.

Lol; why would you not just go log in and check this out? It takes two minutes ..
Because I completed my secondary a while ago and and can't remember. When I log in I can't access my secondary through the portal. Is there somewhere that you can?

Try a different Internet browser. This has happened to me, too.

Interviewing on 11/25. Can someone comment on the individual interview portion a bit? Was it tough?

The individual interview is a joke; I seriously don't think they put any weight on it unless you screw up big time. The panel interview is much more important. My individual interviewer said that the only reason it (one-one-one) exists is because applicants wanted it. All he asked was questions about ECs and why med.

How do you feel like your panel interview went? I feel like ours went fine but now I'm wondering if we were supposed to like build on each other's answers. We kinda just waited our turn and answered one at a time unless they asked for our opinion.

Just received an acceptance email from Dr. Wallace! So excited =)
(Interviewed early-mid Nov)

Accepted an hour ago by email! I interview in late October, about a month ago!

Does any current student know if Northwestern is generous with merit aid? Relatedly, when in the cycle does the school usually tell accepted students about any merit awards they receive?

Congratulations!!! May I ask what your impressions were from visiting the school?

Thanks, and of course =) In a nutshell, I had a great experience there, both with my student host and during the interview day. My host was among the friendliest of all the student hosts I've stayed with throughout the interview season, and she could not have been more helpful and informative with regards to the curriculum, her classmates (the dynamics of the class), and living in Chicago. I am a big fan of Feinberg's curriculum, since it's a great balance between lecture and PBL/TBL/clinicals during the first 2 years. There is roughly 25 hrs of instruction time per week, which also means that there is a great degree of freedom to pursue additional interests outside of the classroom. The students that I met were generally very friendly and helpful, but like any other medical school, there is a good mix of different personalities (sorry if I'm simply stating the obvious). As for the city itself, I like that the vast majority of Northwestern's campus is located in Streeterville (it seems fairly centralized), and I also liked Streeterville (and Chicago generally) very much. It's a big city, but has a very different vibe than East Coast cities like New York or Boston. The only complaint I have is that it was very cold, but that's just something I'll have to get used to over time =)

Better to be too cold than too hot - one can always add another jacket. Great to have your input by the way. I have scoped out their website pretty well, but there is nothing like a good firsthand account of places you have never been. Here's hoping that I get the chance to see it for myself soon!

Northwestern is improving its merit aid substantially each year. It's one of the top things on their list of improvements. I received a scholarship and we had to go to a scholarship luncheon. There were around 40-50 other classmates there so a sizable chunk of the class received merit aid--of course the amount of each scholarship I'm sure ranged quite a bit.

I think Northwestern will tell you pretty much right before you would have to make a decision (so around May 15th)

i received an II a couple days ago! very honored and excited to have the chance to interview here. Dates available were mid january. Does this put me at a big disadvantage especially since the interview cycle ends in February at Feinberg? or are they non-rolling?

how intense are the panel interviews? I.e. are applicants trying to outdo each other in the questions or is it more relaxed and friendly? Are the questions challenging?

damn, I guess it's safe to assume everyone else is deferred/rejected from that time period 🙁

yoyo- Northwestern is semi-rolling. Some people get offers, but the vast majority (that aren't rejected) are deferred until February/March I think. The panels are usually relaxed and the interviewers friendly.

Thanks a lot for sharing. I guess this means I won't know my financial aid situation here until after second look.

Was accepted yesterday around noon. Absolutely ecstatic!!! Interviewed on Oct 21. Loved everything about the school, and the city is everything I could ask for... save for the cold 🙂

No, you are not at a disadvantage. Northwestern accepts few people outright and will defer most interviewees for later review in March. That way they ensure that everyone interviewing later still stands a chance for an acceptance despite getting their app in later, having their LORs added late, etc.

Yup! I think the first couple of batches have been coming out within about 4 weeks, so hopefully they'll keep the turnaround nice and fast. I was getting anxious by the last couple days before they responded.

Hello everyone,

I recently received an interview invite for mid January. However, I was planning on leaving the country at the end of December through the end of Northwestern's interview season. I have already purchased my ticket. It's my absolute dream to interview/attend Northwestern but I'd also really like to not have to push my trip back several weeks as my trip truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I know this is a bit of a shot in the dark but I figured it couldn't hurt to try. Is there anyone out there that would consider swapping a December interview for my mid January interview? Feinberg doesn't give out most acceptances for a few more months so you wouldn't really lose anything. Or,if anyone has been invited but has lost interest due to other acceptance or for other reasons and is considering canceling an interview I would appreciate the spot so much.

If anyone is considering please send me a PM. Words cannot express how awesome your help would be. Thank you!

You can always call the admissions office and tell them about your situation. Hopefully they should be accommodating.

I did. That was the first thing I tried. I was just told that December interview dates were filled up and I could be scheduled in January/February.

🙁 Did you ask if you could possibly be on a "waitlist" for any days in December just in case someone cancels?

Well when I called I didn't get an answer, so I sent an email as well. The first email I was told that December dates were filled and to schedule January/Feb. I responded asking this exact question but haven't heard back. I suspect because a lot of people are out of the office today for the holiday.

I don't know if the waitlist would work but that's no guarantee so I thought I'd try on here as well 🙂

can anyone post the MSAR data? like # invited for interview, #accepted, #matriculated?

I wouldn't be surprised if Northwestern made the OP pick one or the other - I feel like this kind of request suggests to NU that you don't think the opportunity to attend Feinberg is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and that your travel plans should take priority over the next 4 years of your career/life.

Disclaimer: I'm just playing devils advocate here.
