So what's up with this silent treatment...

Thats how CMS rolls nowaday...LOL
Base on previous observation, they will most likely meet early next week and more decisions should come out. I basically lost hope in them reviewing my application anytime soon after waiting 14 weeks...

Did any of you guys get the email with this year's match list? I did, and it was pretty freaking impressive.

So what's up with this silent treatment...

I've had 14 weeks of silence since my interview. The office never answers the phone when I try to call, and now they aren't responding to my emails, either. I don't understand what's happening.

Was small pooled way back in January and still no update form them. Have called once, and they said you are still in the applicant pool... Called again today and left a message. sigh.

I was small pooled in October and still no news. If their last two interview dates are next week, I think it is time to give up hope 🙁

Think of it this way... They might just be reviewing your application this month and will get back to you. So no need to reply to your email... 😀

I believe orientation is August 13th-15th and classes start on Monday August 18th.

I am an accepted applicant at CMS. I interviewed on November 25th and I was notified of my acceptance on December 20. That's one of the reasons I'm pretty surprised how long many of you have been waiting. In comparison to other schools I have been in contact with, I thought CMS was reasonably prompt about getting back to me. I definitely feel for you guys though. I'm wait listed at two other schools that I also really like, and the uncertainty is killing me even with a solid acceptance. So I can't imagine what you guys must be feeling right now.

Congrats! Well, I hope all of us waiting on here will hear some good news next week and join you as one of the "accepted".

Hey MicroRNA Love, are you an accepted applicant to CMS? If so, when did you interview and when were you notified of acceptance?

No, I am not an accepted applicant - I interviewed Feb 3rd and still have not heard back. I was asking when its the first day of class because I am planning my defence date for my Masters and I just wanted to make sure its well before the first day of class in case I am lucky enough to be accepted to CMS.

Good luck microRNA Love on your defense. Hopefully you and all of us will hear the good news soon!

i hope we allg et in, you all sound like lovely bunch, it would be a shame if we never got chance to study together

I have a question for current or former BMS students, or really anyone who knows a bit about the process. I interviewed at the COM in March, and I really loved the school. Incase I am unfortunately not accepted, I would love to start the BMS program in the fall (I have a strong background in research, so it's actually a program I would really be interested in, in addition to med school). I'm trying to be proactive, and I am not sure if I should apply to the BMS program right now. Or, should I wait until the decision process is over? I really don't want to count myself out of the COM, because I thought I had a pretty great interview, but I know many awesome applicants have been waiting far longer than I have for a decision. Any input would be appreciated!

Hey Apence I'm a current BMS student.

It is in your best interest to apply to BMS as early as possible because the class does begin to fill up pretty quickly after May 15th (once all the MD applicants have to choose one school out of the ones they are accepted at). I had the same thoughts when applying last year because I felt that if I applied BMS then CMS would see that and would just put my application off for another year. However, I was told that CMS can not see if I have applied to BMS. You want to avoid not having a place to go next year so I think it is wise to get a backup plan in motion right now.

I want to clarify something for you: the BMS degree, or any SMP degree for that matter, does not carry much weight. I bring this up because you mentioned that you have a strong background in research. We don't do any research as BMS students, and this wouldn't really add to your career as a researcher. If that is something you want to pursue you'd be better off doing a program that caters to it, and will most definitely be cheaper than BMS.

If I was in your position and was set on getting an MD I'd start applying to SMPs now as a backup.

anyone interviewing on the 28th? just wondering if the invites for that date have been sent yet.

Are the BMS expecting to have another round of acceptance soon?

The BMS students can expect a large acceptance surge in early May.

So is it true that the committee meets once a month around the 20th? If this is true, then how would the decision for them come out early May?

As I've mentioned before, this is information that I just don't have. I'm not on the admissions committee, nor am I intimately involved in their machinations.

Thank you so much! This was really helpful!!

So is it true that the committee meets once a month around the 20th? If this is true, then how would the decision for them come out early May?

In one of my emails to the admissions office I asked them when the committee meets, and they said "The Admissions Committee continues to review applications at each meeting. The date of the meeting changes each month."

The makeup and inner workings of the adcom are mysterious. Ancient texts suggest that they may have migrated from a part of the continent where people are mute for at least 4 weeks at a time. This may explain their silence during some of the shorter months. Some also maintain that their movements are related to the lunar calendar, but like the majestic ghost cat we may only guess, as they are rarely seen in real life. Sometimes, if you are very quiet, and keep quite still, you may hear their faint call...."accepted". I heard it once. I hope you do, too

At this point in the cycle the whole game changes. The deadline to commit to schools is May 15th so adcoms everywhere need to make sure they've offered acceptances to every student that they want to attend before then. My guess is there's a regular meeting in April then they meet again quickly in early May to pick from all those final interviews (the last ones are April 28th this year) and review anyone else they want to offer an acceptance. Best of luck! Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

So I am not sure how to understand the above statements. Based on your assumption, all acceptances that CMS wants to extend have been extended? So assuming that is true, those who interviewed/interviewing in the months of March and April are most likely to hear after May 15, 2014 deadline?

No. You should hear sooner.

Sorry, let me clarify. All the acceptances that will go out for this cycle have not all been extended yet, but they will be extended before May 15th. I'm not positive, but after that point I would think they begin to pull from the alternate list to fill any vacant spots in the class. Basically, you should hear SOMETHING by May 15th if you've interviewed, whether that be acceptance, rejection, or alternate list. I hope this helps.

Thank you Ahutni3. That definitely cleared up a bit. Well, I wish everyone luck and hopefully we all hear some good news soon.

They don't technically need to have the waiting list ready by May 15th though, right? I understand they'll need to have 190 accepted applicants by then, but can't they take their time ranking an alternate list and accepting students off the list? I just can't imagine that after waiting months post-interview they would suddenly make accept/reject/waitlist decisions for all of us before May 15.

I wonder if adcom will provide those who have interviewed an update in April or early May?

I'm not positive how the alternate list works. They might still be adding to it after May 15th, but I would think it depends on how big the list is to begin with. Sorry I can't be of more help when it comes to that. If I was in those shoes (not hearing anything at all post interview after may 15th), I would definitely be calling admissions to figure out what the deal is.

Received another post-interview hold this morning

What is going on here?!?! Interviewed Jan 10th, and didn't even receive a hold status...a part of me says that they accidentally drop my application somewhere in the office and is sitting there collecting dust.....grrrrrrr

Yeah, I think after all of this time we have a pretty clear picture of how ridiculous and/or disorganized the adcom is for CMS. Holds for some, no holds for others, regardless of date of interview, no reassurance whatsoever from the administrative staff about what/if/how/when we will hear anything, and total misinformation about how long we would hear back post-interview (I was told 6-8 weeks, it is now 3 months and counting of total silence.)

Accepted today. 32Q/3.69 Nontrad, California resident. Interviewed early Dec, on Hold 12/20 and 1/20, then 3 months of silence until today. There is hope.

Congratulations! I continue to hope and pray for those of us awaiting for an acceptance from CMS still.

Also, will you be planning to attend CMS as well or do you have other acceptances that you will be attending instead?

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to attend CMS. Super excited.

Out of curiosity... Did you send any updates while you were on hold?

I sent one, mostly just a rehashing of my interview day and why I wanted to attend CMS. I didn't have any major life updates to include.
