2013-2014 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's been 15 weeks since my interview, and exactly 3 months since my "on hold" email. I've sent three new letters of recommendation and two updates on my volunteering, shadowing, and schoolwork. Every time I check my email and still don't have a decision my heart breaks all over again 🙁

Silence here for ~12 weeks too.
Silence without hold for almost 16 weeks here...

Perhaps the silence is better than a "hold" status.

Accepted yesterday. 3.8/32 California applicant. Interviewed early February. This was the first email I received from them since. Most likely withdrawing, hope it goes to one of you!

Congrats! How many other schools were you accepted into?

Hey Tantacles, I believe you said two years ago, you were notified of your acceptance in early May. Well, as recently as this past Tuesday, CMS placed a whole bunch of us on hold and a few were granted acceptances. Since we are in late April right now, do you think the admissions committee will release another round of acceptances/rejections/holds prior to the May 15, 2014 deadline?

Any CMS students who have an insight, please share. Thanks!

I don't know. As I mentioned before, I was interviewed mid-April and was accepted two weeks later, which was my first contact with them.

I'm sitting on a few waitlists, and then I have one other acceptance. And thanks for the congrats! I was sitting on zero acceptances as of Tuesday morning, and then got two on Wednesday 🙂. Hope that provides a little bit of hope for those still waiting!

Hey everyone who was admitted: congratulations. I'm an M1 here just about to wrap up first year, and it's been a blast. Feel free to ask me any questions.

But also: anyone looking for housing next year? I've got a room available in Navy housing right across the street from the school for a fraction of what student housing charges. PM me and we can talk.

Anyone who attended interviews recently - any updates about the last interview dates?

Once again, CMS replied to my email without answering the questions that I asked in my email. -___-

I'm sorry that this is happening to you. I'm going to suggest that, in addition to complaining here about problems you may have had in the application cycle, that you address those concerns in the anonymous survey admissions sends out after your interview. That's the best way to get information to the people who matter!

I never got a survey after my interview, which makes sense. I'm sure they don't want to hear how they are one of the most unresponsive and disorganized admissions offices I've ever had to deal with in two cycles of med school admissions.

I meant that criticism for the admissions committee, not the admissions office, they seem to be doing a find job. Although it's beyond me why they can't tell us anything about when we might hear a decision.

I was under the impression that it comes along with your "Thank you for attending our interview!" e-mail they send when you leave the school.

Has anyone received their finaid package yet? Its been forever since I submitted my papers!

I interviewed in Dec and got the survey that same day.

Thanks for confirming this. Could you PM the survey link to me? I'd like to make sure that everyone who interviewed who wants to leave feedback is able to.

Edit: Nevermind! I have the link! Please send a PM if you interviewed and didn't receive the link to our survey.

This keeps happening to me, too. All they ever say is "Thank you for your continued interest, your file is still under review."

Well, I'm about to spend another thousand dollars submitting a 2015 AMCAS application. Thank you so much CMS for being the only school to leave me hanging so long without even the hint of an update. You have cost me money, stress, and total uncertainty about my future. Can someone tell me why every other medical school can give applicants a timely response, but CMS can't get its s**t together enough to get back to you after 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 weeks. Shame on you.

To those of you who apply here in the future, do not believe anything this admissions staff tells you about the timeframe for hearing a decision. It will take forever, your future will be left hanging in the balance, and you'll have to spend a lot of money pursuing a plan B while you wait.

Hey best of luck, I hope you get in soon before you have to turn in the 2015 application! The whole process is certainly stressful, and they are probably understaffed for the # of people who apply (just my guess). Personally, I do hope the process is a bit more transparent -- in terms of where they are with reviewing, etc.

Is anyone actually on a waitlist for CMS?

I can't speak for this year, but last year they placed people on the "alternate list" all throughout the year. I was on it for 2 months before being accepted.

I was looking at last year's thread and it seemed like they just replaced "alternate list" with "on hold" for post-interview this year which I guess makes more sense for when the actual wait list comes out

WOW. I don't even post much on SDN at all, but this is too crazy for me to not post. Tbh, I interviewed at another school in September that left me in the dark about an admissions decision until April, which is quite a long period to be waiting, but at least they did render a decision by May.

I have no skin in this game, but it just seems absolutely ridiculous to not let applicants know about a decision (even waitlist) this late in the season. As you rightly mentioned, it sucks to be in that uncertain fog and I wish you the best of luck..Hopefully you won't have to submit that new AMCAS and you get the acceptance you want.

While I understand your frustration, and completely agree that it is not acceptable to give applicants a time frame for hearing back that will neither be honored nor explained by the admissions staff after not being honored, please do remember that future applicants are reading these threads and it is therefore misleading of you to state things as facts that simply are not. I know a couple people that interviewed at top 20 schools such as UCLA back in Oct. and Dec. and have yet to hear anything back, with the May 15th deadline fast approaching for them too. It is not "every" other medical school that is more organized that RF, but simply most other schools.

Again, I am not trying to make excuses for RF or suggest that their silence is acceptable, I just want future readers of this thread to be informed that this isnt the most outrageous thing to ever happen in the admissions process, as it likely happens at a few schools each cycle, due to problematic circumstances.

That said, I really hope you and others hear back soon! Keep your head up!

Is anyone actually on a waitlist for CMS?

When I emailed the office for clarification on what post-interview hold means, they told me it is not the same as being on the wait list. They said a wait list was already being made, and the date on that email was 3/25

So what exactly is the hold status and waitlist? What is the difference?

Has anyone received a pre-interview rejection recently?!

15th week here and counting 🙂

@VolunteerMoose Great news. I emailed the Dean of CMS last week and asked him some quick questions regarding the long wait. He emailed me back this morning. He said that he requested the Admission Office to get back to all of us who are waiting about our current status. Hope it will end soon!!!

This kind of attitude will serve you well in medicine. It's all too often that we forget that no one has ever died from being uncomfortable. Learn from this example, everyone, and don't be afraid to make waves.

Your effort should be rewarded with an acceptance!

I was being neurotic and looking at past year threads and it did seem like a lot of decisions came out on a Tuesday around this time

I got an acceptance email earlier this afternoon, so hopefully that means plenty of status emails are going out very soon!

CONGRATZ!!!When did u interview? Are you going to attend here?

thank you! I interviewed 3/17 and was small pooled back in october. I'm likely attending a different school, but financial aid and living expenses are a huge factor. I've given myself a "deadline" to make the decision by the end of the week.

Just got an acceptance email earlier today! Super excited about attending this school!
