High priority waitlist.....does this kinda guarantee admission?! Interviewed 1/23
Congrats! Are you OOS?
If you look back through the old threads you will probably able to get more info on this. Last year they ran through the entire list, I'm not sure about the years before that.High priority waitlist.....does this kinda guarantee admission?! Interviewed 1/23

In my waitlist letter they said that about 20% (30ish seats) of their class is from the regular waitlist. So High Priority is likely 100%.If you look back through the old threads you will probably able to get more info on this. When did you interview if you don't mind me asking? In my waitlist letter they said that about 20% (30ish seats) of their class is from the regular waitlist. So High Priority is likely 100%.
Did anybody get any financial aid notices/letters? I sent an email to the head of the financial aid department but still have not heard back. Weird...
I interviewed back in October. It's been a long long wait. Waitlisted at three different schools and checking email every hour 😛When did you interview if you don't mind me asking?
I have an interview here tomorrow but I can't decide if I want to go. I am feeling very sick and do not want to make the 4 hr drive to LI. I only have three other II, two of which ended up as waitlist at U of R and UB and NYMC I haven't heard back from yet. Not sure if I should take my chances and skip it or go. I don't want to miss out on getting into school this cycle, but to be honest Stony isn't my top choice either. What do you all think?
So... when do students start looking for housing? How much is rent for a single room with a few roommates?.. Budgeting my future is keeping me up and making me dread loans :/
Thanks for the info. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that they're making the full transition to a 1.5 yr. pre-clinical with our year.I see the following about curriculum reform
This document is to be shared with all stakeholders the process of transition of the curriculum of
Stony Brook University School of Medicine to the LEARN curriculum to be implemented in the summer of 2014.

Looks like it's still going to basically be the same 6 weeks that they offer now"The clinical clerkships will begin in March of the second year of medical school. During the clinical clerkships, there will be designated blocks (translational pillars) interspersed with clerkships to facilitate reinforcement of basic sciences, new/interdisciplinary curricular themes and SOM competencies."
That's.... interesting.. so we have December break, January and part of Feb. to prepare for the Step 1 exam + take it before March.. Is that enough time?? lol Why does that seem so short to me 😱

Haven't heard back since my interview on early Jan. Should I just take it as silent rejection? No email, no waitlist, no nothing
I was waitlisted 3 weeks after interview.....does that mean that they know for sure they do not want me? haha. Do they reject people post interview?

Can any current MS3's (if you're out there) comment on doing rotations at Stony Brook's University Hospital vs. Winthrop or any of the other affiliates? Is it possible to do all your rotations at one affiliated hospital and none at the main campus?
If you choose Winthrop as your main clinical campus, you'll do almost all your rotations there (with the choice of doing most electives there, or at affiliate sites). If you do not, you will choose your schedules on an algorithm that weighs time vs location. If you feel strongly for doing all your rotations at Stony Brook, you will probably be able to, but may have to sacrifice getting the exact order you wanted.
^^this...anyone?Match list for 2014?... Please? Someone? lol
Wait listed today.
Friday, April 11th from 11-4Does anyone know when 2nd look is?
I interviewed 2/21When did you interview, if i may ask?
Does anyone know how many people are placed on the wait list?
Since they interview 750 people, my guess is 1/3 of those are put on the wait list, so 250 people. And correct me if I'm wrong, but there is only 1 waitlist? I don't know how people on this board know they are on a "HPWL"..
Hey everyone. I interviewed early February but still no answer. Does anyone know if Stony Brook is receptive to update letters? If so, would the letter be sent by email since there appears to be no way to upload it.
Thanks!
I would hold off on sending an update until after they give you a decision. In my opinion it's better to use the update in getting you off the waitlist (if that happens), and better to use it in May when the waitlist starts to move. Good luck!Hey everyone. I would say if a significant amount has changed since your interview, an you anticipate even more to change in May, then yeah send two updates - one now and one in May. But if not, you wouldn't want to waste one good update letter at a time when they probably are not basing their decision off update letters (i.e. Before they put you on the wait list). Also, definitely get other opinions on the matter because this is just my $0.02, I have no inside info on the admissions process. Like your pre med advisor would be a great person to ask about the matter - be wary of advice you got from some guy on the internet lol. Thanks for the advice! I was hoping to send one tomorrow and would have further updates for a May letter (i.e. publication, submitted thesis, possible grants, etc). Do you still think its better to save everything for May?
I know of somebody who is applying for MD/PHD MSTP. The person was told by email that s/he was accepted but with no guarantees. This is due to very high number of highly qualified applicants. The original batch of accepted students will need to have declines and then "accepted/no guarantees" will be ranked. Whether or not being picked depends on 2 things:Since they interview 750 people, my guess is 1/3 of those are put on the wait list, so 250 people. And correct me if I'm wrong, but there is only 1 waitlist? I don't know how people on this board know they are on a "HPWL"..
That's not exactly what I wanted to hear but oh well. All the emails keep saying that we're supposed to get an email regarding financial aid "very soon" (that was on March 18th). Has anyone received this yet?I just read that financial aid awards won't be released until June. (http://www.stonybrook.edu/finaid/receiving/awards.shtml)
Anybody find success contacting the financial aid office to get an earlier estimate of an award?
I guess I'll find out at Second Look and report back. That's not exactly what I wanted to hear but oh well. All the emails keep saying that we're supposed to get an email regarding financial aid "very soon" (that was on March 18th). Has anyone received this yet?
