I don't really see why they would shorten the wait list. From past years, they already take like 70% of people off of the wait list, which is absurdly high compared to other schools. So I'm wondering what purpose it would serve to take an even higher percentage off of the wait list and potentially risk not fully filling their class

My interviewer knew my MCAT scores. It was really upsetting since they aren't supposed to know what I got and everything but I had written an update letter previously explaining MCAT score disparity between two different takes and they didn't block out the info on my update letter before adding it to my file...really wasn't happy to see that. My interviewer even made a comment about it too. Stinks.

I think it's interesting that for most interview days we only have one person post that they're waitlisted. Maybe the waitlist is actually smaller than we thought?

I think it's interesting that for most interview days we only have one person post that they're waitlisted. Maybe the waitlist is actually smaller than we thought?

SDN isn't an accurate representation of how many people are actually wait listed however.

According to last year's thread, by May 9, about 22 people on SDN added their names to the 'SDN Buffalo waitlist thread'.

This year there are also 22 names posted here. If anything, by relativity, the same # of people are waitlisted.

I do wonder if the number of people posting here this year is higher, though, because the list hasn't been publicly cut into thirds. (As in the bottom thirds last year would be less likely to post at all, while we here now can't let our pride get in the way of creating an accurate list🙂 )

Hey everyone, I noticed someone asked for my stats. I have solid scores, but I personally know two people on the wait list with better scores so the committee is not grabbing the highest marks on the wait list. Dr. S says UB is holistic and I think that is true to some degree. I know a bunch of current UB students and the student body has a huge diversity of stories on what got them there. I think all the students are typically good across the board, but usually they all have something that really jumps out whether it is insane scores, research, community service, work, or whatever. Also in regards to people talking about interviews I felt mine went well (I did not say anything that after left me thinking why did I say that), but I have no idea how important they are.
Sorry if I dodged the question like a politician but I really do not want to give out details. However, I can say UB's wait list is a good place to be, of the many students I have met from UB I know only three that got in outright (didn't ask all haha), but my point is a lot of the class comes off the wait list. Also do not give up hope I heard of a story of a student that got off the list the first week of classes because someone dropped out. Best of luck to everyone and i hope this message and my last one were somewhat informative and did not create more anxiety for you guys.

Babyface1989, Thank you for your reply. I know the wait list is based on a bunch of factors, I'm just getting nervous now that there is movement. For me personally, I thought my UB interviews went pretty crappy. The first person I had really drilled into me to a point that I thought was almost rude, but the second one went fairly well. You never know what they were really looking for though, so it is hard to say how you did. I just hope all of our waiting ends soon so I can get on with my life!

Yes, well said. I agree about being nervous.. I also wonder if they are taking people off every day or on certain days of the week?

Not sure if there is an actual pattern or if these were the only days SDN members posted. Keeping them crossed for all of us - hopefully next week we'll see a lot of movement!

Looking for a job in pharma or research as well as getting ready to reapply if need be. I can't afford to reapply, start paying back my undergrad loans, or even get a place to live if I don't start making some money. 🙁

Has anyone heard of a friend or someone being nominated for the AMSNY program. I got nominated and was extremely excited. I interviewed recently and I know there is only one spot and I was looking to try to gauge my likelihood of being accepted. It is like dangling a peice of meat in front of a starving man!

If anyone had heard of someone else interviewing for this, please let me know. As of right now, looks like I am starting the reapplying process, which I am sure some on the waitlist are feeling the same way 🙁
