2013 - 2014 University at Buffalo (SUNY) Wait List Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also guys I think we all have to remember that at this stage (email acceptances) that UB gives people 1 week to make a decision. So if someone was accepted last Thursday and hasn't formally withdrawn that spot or rejected it, etc, that it stays claimed for a week so they cant even move the wait list to someone else for that spot yet. If that is happening then that could slow the wait list down too.

Since we are only at May 19th, I'm choosing to remain optimistic. I think the "panic" period starts July 1st...that's when we should be worried. As noted from past threads UB has accepted heavily through May and started doing phone acceptances in June.

I think we also should keep in mind that they finished the interviews really late this year, and started pulling people from the waitlist later as a consequence of that.

Has everyone that has been accepted accepted the offer of admission?

If that is the case then there won't be a whole lot of movement.

I highly doubt that everyone who is offered a spot, accepts, in fact, I can say that it is true that that does not happen.

10 Medical Schools Where Accepted Students Usually Enroll

"On average, medical schools saw 52.8 percent of accepted students join the first-year class"

To those committed to Buffalo, do you know anything about an orientation? All I know is that class starts the 11th.

I'm assuming they will get back to us about those things after the background check and tuition deposit, seeing as though we are sort of "provisionally accepted" until those things occur.

What happens to phone calls in June if you're away in a country with only limited email....

I believe you can have them call your parents/family if you are away and they can accept/deny the offer in your proxy, but I'm not 100% on that.

I'm in the same boat. I will have to do voice roaming and check my voicemail daily.

Usually sometime in June they start asking wait list applicants for a list of phone numbers and then go through that list and if nobody picks up they move on to the next person. So even if you don't answer, but your parents answer or boss or whoever.. you could still get the "acceptance call". They just need verification over the phone with a person who can speak on your behalf, they just can't leave a message on the answering machine.

For those accepted is their a housing forum or Facebook page or do we just have to wait for the housing day?

Wanted to throw this your way if you're interested in off-campus housing. My fiance and I live at Bethune Lofts. It's expensive for 1 person (1200/mo), but if you get a roommate, the cheaper 2 bedrooms are 1300, which makes it reasonable. It's a brand new building about 1 mi from campus with a bus stop across the street that stops right in front of campus. Price includes gated parking, 1 parking spot, heat/AC (huge), has a workout facility, indoor bike parking, electricity has been a ~30/mo (cheap!), laundry room that isn't coin-op (can pay with card), stainless appliances, wood floors, huge windows. It's really ideal.

I do have info from the school (copying it from the document I received via email):

Housing: You will be notified when this year's Housing Weekend will occur. In the past, it has been held in mid-June. In addition, feel free to visit or call the Off-Campus Housing Office at 253 Harriman Hall, Buffalo, NY 14214 716-829-2224. Also, you should visit the UB Residence Hall Web Site at www.student-affairs.buffalo.edu, click on "Resident Halls & Apts" and then click separately on South Lake Village, Flickinger Court and Hadley Village.

Man, I'm losing hope quickly
As am I. Only thing we can do now in the mean time is to prep our applications for next year and make sure we come back even stronger. I am currently working to finalize both my AMCAS and AACOMAS applications for this upcoming cycle so that I can submit the first day the application cycle opens. I will definitely not be waiting as long as I did this year in hopes of catching some early interviews and avoiding this same exact situation next year. While I am trying to remain optimistic, each passing day makes me feel as though there is not going to be as much movement as there has been in past years. Maybe Dr. S knew that going into the end of this cycle and made his decision to make the wait list "shorter" because he knew they were not going to be able to offer as many seats to wait-list candidates. Best of luck again to everyone else in my position. Still waiting for that first acceptance...

Don't! Remember that last year, they were only through about half of the WL acceptances dates by this time. Since they started accepting from the WL later this year, maybe that will mean even more days are left. This is speculation, but try to look on the bright side.

I shared this story elsewhere, so apologize if it's a repeat, but I spoke to an applicant who was on two wait lists last year. In mid to late June, she ended up being accepted by both programs! At our point in the game, she was probably losing hope, but it all worked out. UB is especially known for it's wait list movement -- there is a good chance that a bunch of us on here will hear back.

I recommend working on your reapp. It's calmed my nerves to have a plan in place for the worst case scenario.

Good luck to all with your reapps! I am actually already accepted at NYMC, but I really want to stay in Western, NY so Buffalo is a big deal for me.

You should be commended for your unwavering optimism and support. Seriously. Aerogers, you are keeping me (and probably others) sane.

The rest of you, I know anything can happen and "it's only May" but I completely understand the panicking..

Ya trying to follow the motto Keep Calm and Carry On. Retaking MCAT tomorrow to try and improve VR score... basically my one obvious weakness on my entire application and I know it prevented my application from even being read at a few of the schools I applied to. I had hoped my BS and PS scores along with my high GPA from an ivy were high enough to counteract it, but apparently 40MCQs override years of hard work and clinical experience. grrr

I emailed Mr. Rosso about wait list movement and this is what he said "The wait list is moving. We expect movement right up until August 11th. We will see what happens. Best regards."

I really hate the "We will see what happens." But at least we know it is moving!

Got accepted into the AMSNY UB post bac. One year post bac at UB and as long as I keep a B in every course, they reserve a seat for me in the incoming class of 2015. Best of luck to everyone waiting. I know it is a long road and I was in the same situation as many of you, getting ready to reapply. Just keep trying though because people who are passionate and work hard get recognized by UB, I promise.

You will probably see me on the 2014-2015 thread for those who find themselves reapplying. So excited to be part of UB and meet future classmates ,even if I have to wait one more year 🙂
Congrats buffalove knock em dead!

The wait is even tougher because we have no clue where we are on the list. I'm sure Mr. Rosso gets a whole bunch of emails from all of us regarding the wait list, but I'm sure that there's only so much he is allowed to say to us...if they told us where we were on the list, it would take some of the mystery out of the wait, but as for now it seems that we will all be in the dark until we either get the acceptance or August 11th rolls around and we are all shell-shocked.

Remember last Thursday they sent out some invites, so tomorrow would be exactly 1 week since then and another group of invites should go out since 1 week is the limit UB gives for answers to acceptances at this point in the game.

Updating the list.....looks like a third of us have been accepted at this point (9 accepted. 18 still waiting)

Interviews in previous years ended around the same time, late April. I don't think it's "late" for UB. It's pretty normal.

I was wondering about the timeline too, and personally came to the conclusion that the may 15th deadline must anyways "equalize" any lags in the timeline

Probably does. I also don't really buy that they cut the waitlist. They always take such a high % of people off the waitlist, where's the sense in making the pool smaller?

I agree with your thinking. But I mean all we can do is wait and see what happens. The waiting portion of it .. well all I can say is it's a royal pain. 🙁

Hi guys, checking in. I am also waitlisted at UB and haven't heard anything yet. I went to UB for the past 3 years so if you want to know anything about the campus or area I'm glad to help out.

Also is this thread primarily for med student waitlist or pharm too? If there's a pharm one I'd love a link

med student wait list.

No movement today? Do we chalk this up to MDW?

It's so hard to say for sure, but the good news is that last year WL'ers were accepted throughout this week, as well as throughout the next 4 weeks. Let's hope that some current UB acceptees get accepted to their top choices, so we can attend UB!

I just find it odd that the list seemed (i could be wrong) to be moving way faster for the past like 4 years

I agree - it did. Many more interviewees really enjoyed their time at UB or maybe other wait lists are moving slowly, so acceptees who would prefer to go elsewhere are waiting like we are. It's hard to say for sure, but it's likely there will still be a decent amount of movement.

Memorial Day Weekend

Thanks!

I personally also believe this year is different than the past 4 years. A way they are making the list, maybe it has to do with us not being able to see the third we are in. It's best to let it play by ear and not think too optimistically and get our hopes up and not think too pessimistic either.
