2014-2015 Boston University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was complete 7/10- here's the email:

It has been a few weeks since we sent you a notice indicating that your application was complete and had been referred to our Committee on Admissions for review. While our Committee is accustomed to reviewing a very large volume of applications, this year we have seen an unprecedented number of applications that have been completed early in the cycle. It appears that we will be able to interview only about 10% of our applicants this year, so these reviews are quite challenging. As a result, we are running several weeks behind.

I regret the fact that we have not been able to take action on your application as yet, but I want to assure you that we are moving as quickly as we can and that there will be no penalty for the delay in our processing. Applicants who are selected for interview will be contacted via email. If our Committee on Admissions concludes that we can invite you for an interview and campus visit, we will get it done!

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused by our extended review of your file. We expect to complete our evaluation quite soon, and wish you success with all your applications.

Got this today too - I was complete around the same time as you. So weird.

Do you guys think contacting a student host now would be too early if the interview is after October 1st?

II invite today! 34 and 3.90. Complete 7/14 after I had to resubmit a letter that wasn't signed. ALso got the "busy" email last week.
Do you know if their qualifications for letters are more stringent? I'm having the same issue of a "non signed" LOR even though my professor swears he signed it.

I am not sure. Did your professor forget to put it one official letterhead?

BTW regarding the LORS, I had the exact same issue (only school that put up a fuss) and I just had my prof upload a new letter on official letterhead with his signature. It was super easy and they updated my profile almost immediately.

Just got an II, OOS but I'm a BU grad. I feel like I should add that this was a 100% unexpected II, I'm actually shocked. I cursed loudly (albeit happily) at work when the email popped up on my screen!
Congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats? Would love to go here, but feel I am an underdog!

II this morning! LizzyM ~76, OOS. AMCAS was verified in early June but I wasn't complete until my letter packet and committee letter got uploaded in late July. Good luck to everyone else applying!

Omg do NOT feel like an underdog @janebear1! I don't like to share exact numbers because I honestly don't feel like they mean anything ultimately but my GPA is <3.5 and my MCAT is >30 if that helps at all. I also have a wide variety of ECs (not all clinical/medical related but including volunteering at a Boston-area hospital and a global non-profit) and I have a degree in Journalism from BU COM (Communications College) and I did a post-bac at Harvard Extension so I am pretty nontrad.

Does anyone know if BU is receptive to in the area emails?

I sent one the other day and said they would add that information to my file :lame: I hope it hasn't been reviewed yet, but I doubt it.

No problem. 3.76 (science and cum - strong upward trend), 37 MCAT (11 P/13 V/13 B)... have lived in Boston my whole life, so strong ties to the city.

Like Boston proper, or one the suburbs outside the city? It's actually fairly hard to find a real Bostonian at BU 😛

A mix of both. Grew up in JP but moved to a suburb when I was 10-ish. Went to a university in Boston (but not BU haha).

Also rejected. But it was such a sweet rejection letter that I couldn't even get that upset about it 😛

Took a couple days once my professor had reuploaded, but that particular SNAFU has been taken care of!

Got my secondary 2 weeks ago. Submitting it tonight...

So, they seem to be well past my complete date of 7/21, but I haven't heard anything yet. No email saying "sorry for the delays," no hold, no rejection. My status still just says "Application complete." Anyone else out there with the same situation?

+1, complete 7/28. Expecting a rejection in the next batch.

Then again, you never know what will happen in the dark and mysterious universe of medical school admissions.

+4 My hope is that they've set us aside to be considered again later. Otherwise I think we would've been rejected by now.
