2014-2015 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Would you be willing to expand on this thought a bit more? Do you just mean because of the lack of required lectures and exams only three months? I am interviewing next week and would love some clarification. Thanks!

This stems from multiple factors. Firstly, 8hrs of IQ(case's form of PBL), and 2hrs of structure weekly is not enough to learn all the material you need to succeed. You need to be self motivated to put in the time OUTSIDE of class to learn. There are about 6hrs of didactic and 4hrs of review lecture(both nonmandatory) weekly to help you, but i havent gone to these for months. Either way, in this curriculum, very little is spoon fed to you, they want you to learn how to research and learn effeciently on uour own (which is what youll be doing in most traditional curriculums anyway, just with more lectures and grades to worry about).

Case gives ALOT of freedom because there is a) no pressure to get perfect grades and b) lack of required activities. You can do ANYTHING you want with that time. I do research, i have friends starting businesses, i think a member of our class is joining the cleveland orchestra.

According to their twitter account, they are reviewing my interview day on Monday. Anyone have any idea how long decisions take after that?

Well, they supposedly reviewed my interview day on 10/27, and so far no news.
So maybe 2 weeks afterwards?

I have a feeling they might just lump the two meetings together for releasing decisions and that it might take a while. I interviews 10/10 so I've already been waiting for quite a while

Interviewed here recently. Doubt I'll get accepted. I was kinda shocked at my student interview. I'm not sure if the student was trying to throw me off or seem like a "hard interviewer," but they seemed completely disinterested in my answers and interrupted me with the next question on their list several times. When I told them what I liked to do on my free time (nothing too unusual), the interviewer basically scoffed at me. Several fairly "hostile" questions as well.

Overall looks like a good program. Just don't go into your student interview thinking it'll be super relaxed. I did, and I was wrong.

Have to agree with you and with zzxxzz. I am not saying that the stress interview approach is an official policy, but I did feel as if my faculty interviewer was trying to bait me and that I was not asked anything related to my file--or to medicine. I was disappointed. Not sure if the difference in interview experiences can be attributed to various interviewer personalities or if particular approaches are reserved for certain applicants. I was expecting to love Case, but left with a less positive impression than I went in with.

First time checkin in here in a while and I noticed your guys posts.

I interviewed at Case early in the interview season and it was my first interview. My faculty interview was in the morning and I was waiting outside his office while he was finishing up his interview with another applicant. The interview went like 5-10 minutes over and I started to get really anxious. As they exited, I remember him saying to the applicant something along the lines of "I know you'll make a fine doctor some day". We got started and it started out pretty conversational but then some of the questions were seemingly out of left field and really caught me off guard. I did my best to answer them, although I stumbled a bit. It eventually came to an end as we were walking out of the room he says "Well, I'm sure you'll get in somewhere". D'oh! Comparing that to the "I know you'll make a fine doctor some day" the applicant who went before me got, I thought I was doomed. My student interview in the afternoon, on the other hand, went great.

I had my second interview a few days later at another school high on my list, and I thought I nailed the interview, both with the faculty and with the student. Come mid-October, I find out that I get waitlisted at the second school, but low and behold I was accepted by Case!

I guess moral of the story is, do your best and roll with the punches as best you can. Sometimes you do all the things right and it still doesn't work out, but just because you slip up here and there also doesn't mean it won't work out! I know the interview season can be grueling and stressful, but just do your best and try not to get to rattled and you guys will be fine!

Btw, I don't know of any sort of stress interview policy that Case has. Granted, I'm not a student interviewer, but I've never heard any talk of it. If you run into something like that it may be just how that interviewer goes about it, but I don't think its something everyone interviewing at Case will run into. Just my $.02

any one else think decisions will come out on late weds night/early thurs morning?

Hopefully tomorrow? That will mark approximately 4-5 weeks for the people who are currently waiting.

Looking at last year it seemed to happen on Thursday at like 3 am (after Wednesday night) but could be wrong

Oh my god. First acceptance! Received the email an hour ago.

I interviewed October 20-ish and was not expecting to hear back so soon at all. I can't believe this.

Congratulations you guys!!!!! That's so exciting!!!! I'm sitting in the CWRU medical school library right now and basking in your excitement 🙂 Can't wait to interview tomorrow!

Whoaaaa was not expecting the acceptance today at all! I thought I did pretty bad on the interviews here, and CWRU's stats are wayyy above mine anyway, but I guess this just goes to show how little stock we should put into our judgements of our own performance. xD

Congratulations to all those accepted today! (And good luck to those still waiting!)

Just to make sure, there's nothing we have to send in to confirm our acceptance? Or is it on the iapply?

Anyone who got accepted interview in November?

Wow @ the wave of acceptances. Congrats to all of you guys!

Just to make sure, there's nothing we have to send in to confirm our acceptance? Or is it on the iapply?

It took a few days for it to show up in iApply for me.

So if no email was received, is it fair to assume that we've been rejected/put on hold? Assuming that we interviewed within the time line of the acceptances.

Based on the first wave of acceptances in October, I'm afraid that might be the case. It doesn't have to be a rejection though! Good luck.

Just checked my iApply as well and was placed on hold after interview. I really liked Case though so I'll see if I get placed on the alternate list by mid-April.

Received a hold yesterday, which was disappointing but completely expected. I'll probably leave my application open, but I'm basically treating this as a rejection. Good luck to everyone else!

pre- or post-interview hold?

Post-interview hold today for the University Track as well. Still in the running for the College Track, which I was much more excited about on the interview day.
