2014-2015 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It seemed like everyone was saying that Case tries to have a low stress and relaxed interview day with interviewers that aren't intense or grilling. While both of the interviews that I had went pretty well and were pretty relaxed, most of the interviews that I had on my other interview days were a lot "smoother" and more conversational. It might just so happen that I ended up with two interviewers who weren't very conversational and wanted to stick to their question lists and most people's interviews might go a lot better than mine did.

I must say that I agree. I enjoyed my day at Case a lot, but the interviews were definitely less smooth and conversational that previous ones I had. You said it perfectly. They were relaxed and fine, but I didn't leave the interview (not the interview day, I'm talking about the actual interview) with a warm fuzzy feeling like I had at other schools.

So, for some reason I had marked this secondary as complete, then I realized today that I hadn't submitted it at all!!! Do you guys think it is still worth sending in, even though I've had it for 2 months?

I'll just interject that I felt both my faculty and student interviews were very relaxed (except for one question from my student interview). But overall I definitely left with that warm fuzzy feeling from the interviews, so I really think its just YMMV in that regard.

Ha, I had to look up YMMV. And again, I truly enjoyed my day at Case and would love to get accepted here. I just hope the interviews went well!

I had a similar experience. I LOVED Case, but I didn't feel like my interviews were smooth and conversational like everyone says they are. Overall though, I had a great experience with Case!

Checked my application status today- rejected from UT (complete 8/2, LizzyM 75). Still no word on my CT application. Has anyone been rejected from UT but got a CT interview?

I know this isn't exactly applicable, but I was rejected CT one day before getting an MSTP II. So, hopefully that gives you some hope! (I honestly thought I'd be a more competitive applicant to CT...)

Yup! @claduva94 is correct (and I think there was also someone else in this thread that had the same outcome... I believe they had a penguin avatar, which makes it really hard for me to remember their username 😉). EDIT: it was @premedpurposes

Hope CT shoots you some love! You're definitely not out of the running!

Lol I'm such a creep! I know all about your interviews hahahaha

MSTP II complete 9/3 Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back.

Hahaha, probably not as creepy as I am. I check the "latest in our community tab" on MDapps more often than I'd like to admit. 😉

at least you're honest about being a total creep.

Just had my interview here UT 10/1. I love the school!

I also just had the first ever interview via Skype for CWRU SOM [from what they told me]
they are piloting this program in order to help faculty who have to come from the hospitals, and have had problems with getting to the interview on time (i.e. delayed 50 minutes cause they couldn't find parking)

Under what circumstances did they grant a Skype interview? Are you out of North America?

Anyone know when the adcom meets to discuss those who already interviewed?

Rejected from UT today, rejected from CT about 4 days ago. I really like Case, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. LizzyM 76.

Good luck, all!

I just submitted my secondary today. Might be too late? :hungover:

Is it me or is the casemed website down?

UT II 1st October, CT rejection 7th Oct. Complete 29th July. LizzyM ~76. I was holding out for the CT invite, as it is an amazing program, but I am still very excited for the UT. Good luck everybody! Hopefully I will see some of you there soon.

Does anyone know how case's post-interview decisions work? Even after going through last year's thread, I don't think I could quite figure it out. Obviously you could be rejected or accepted, but do they waitlist or defer? As in, if you don't get a definitive decision initially can you hear back before May 15th about potentially getting accepted?

For people who interviewed through UT, about what time did your interviews end? I'm currently wondering when I should book a flight.

My last interview was at 2 pm, so I was done by 3 pm. However, other people who interviewed on the same day as me had their last interview scheduled for 3 pm.

Just some traveling advice..... While trying to book a flight from NYC, I came to the realization that there is an airport 50 miles south (1 hour drive) of Cleveland; Canton-Akron Regional Airport. Flights from NYC to Cleveland were running in the 330 range (the cheapest flights) but I got a deal from Priceline to fly to Canton with a rental car and hotel room included for 234.91. I just had to book a flight that left a little later in the afternoon on the way home to leave me time to get to the airport. It's a very big savings and very convenient. Thought this info might help some of you....

I second this advice. I always fly CAK over CLE when flying in/out of NE Ohio...it's small, convenient, and quick! And often very cheap. Great advice @egiznad!

That is GREAT! Congrats!! When were you complete?

Thanks so much!! Umm 7/18.

There were several November, even an October date available for College Track, but I wanted to schedule my interviews consecutively, so early December it is.

Also, I realized shortly after scheduling my interviews that I was scheduling them for a few days before my final exams..... So I emailed admissions and asked to reschedule. Oops. Hopefully they don't hold my sleepy oversight against me!

Lord knows how many interview schedules I fudged due to replying, bleary-eyed and groggy, sometime around 5am. They were receptive to me moving around my invite, so you ought to be golden. CONGRATS yet again!

Pssssssttttt you should interview at CCLCM early November, jus' sayin'.

Hahaha that's what happened here. I was like, "Oh yeah December totally wide open! I don't have any commitments like tests or finals or anything at all during that time!" oops. Thank you so much for the support ahhhh you're great!!

?!?!?! when will you be in Cleveland??? I MUST MEET YOU

University & College track IIs today- a Saturday! Very excited, especially for the College track!

EDIT: The email looked very ambiguous about it's content at first glance. When a message begins with "The School X admissions staff has reviewed your application materials..." rather than "Congratulations! ...", I assume it's going to be a rejection. So, this was an even sweeter surprise.

Congrats!!!!!! 🙂 agreed about the wording. I fully expected it to be a double rejection. Especially because I was on hold at CCLCM....

What dates are still available for CT if you don't mind me asking?

It looks like the earliest dates are in mid-November, and CT interviews are on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Ok. Darn. Well hopefully I'll be able to move my interview regardless... To a November date maybe. If not, December is fine!

Anyone know acceptance percentages from interviews, or how many interviews CT has? Hard to find those stats since they all seem to be lumped into Case's full UT/CT stats.

Sorry. Did not see earlier that you gave a date.
