Does anyone know if Georgetown has a host program for interviews?

They're setting it up. No word on when it'll be ready to go when I emailed them a couple days ago.

Hi all, I'm an M1 here at Georgetown. The hosting program is being set up and is intended to run from September 1st to mid-March. Hope this helps, but your best source of information is by asking Georgetown SOM's admissions directly.

Thanks for the heads up! Any idea when we'll be able to register for it? I interview on 9/3, and I'd love to be able to cancel my hotel reservation..

No problem, glad to help!

I wouldn't have a clue about when registration could be done. That being said, the e-mail for student hosting has been [email protected]. Two M1 coordinators handle the student hosting program, but I don't know if they have been picked yet (we received a request for volunteers to coordinate nearly two weeks ago).

It's a good idea to e-mail or call the admissions office first to see if it's been set up yet.

Me personally, when I interviewed, I tried to get a student host but was unable to due to both M1s and M2s having an exam the week I was interviewing. I had to stay in a hotel in Georgetown.

Just a few words of advice though if you're staying in a hotel- first, Georgetown runs shuttles to both Dupont Circle in DC and Rosslyn over in Arlington because the Washington Metro (the subway here) does not run to Georgetown, but there are Metro stations in Dupont Circle and Rosslyn.

Secondly, if you're not staying in a hotel in Georgetown (some of them have complementary shuttles that can run you to the medical school if it's within a 1 or 2 mile radius- call and ask), stay in one that's close to the Metro, because traffic in the Beltway can be notorious. You can take a taxi, but there's a trade-off: one fellow interviewer spent 45 minutes in traffic getting from her hotel to the medical school. It's one thing to travel by train underground where delays are less likely, but it's another thing to deal with the traffic on the surface. It's my take on it, but I know some people prefer taxis.

Do people know if Georgetown is receptive to 'in the area' emails?

I'm traveling down to DC for another interview late September and want to let Georgetown know in the off chance they are considering offering me an interview because my financial situation is a little sparse these days.

All advice/thoughts welcome! Thanks!

Seconding EMLove's post. Anyone know what dates are looking like as well--My other interview is mid october. Thanks!

I was invited last week and the last day I could sign up for was the 9th

Just submitted my uber long secondary yesterday. I think I am the only person who actually had to cut things off to make it fit within the word limit. So...c'mon Georgetown!

Just a heads up for everyone who's already been invited to interview, the student host program is up and running! Head to your original invite email, open up the information document they linked to. On the third page, there is now information about student hosts.

Got the rejection notice too 🙁(((((((((

Also rejected. I'm ok with this. Good luck to the rest of you!! 🙂

Ah, best of luck. I am sure you will get interviews at other amazing schools. It's nice to know that Georgetown is keeping folks posted! When were y'all complete?

Rejected as well. Best of luck to everyone else still in the running!

wow- anyone submit in August and get rejected? or are you all July-ers?

Not rejected yet but I submitted a week or so after y'all...

Rejection. But good luck everyone else! Seems like today is rejection day.

First rejection of the season. But, Georgetown gets like OVER 9000!!!!! applications (lulz), so I figured I didn't have a great shot anyway.

Complete 7/15, LizzyM 73, OOS.

Ok if sunflower got rejected this soon, I do not feel bad at all.. Sorry everyone!

I actually laughed out loud at this haha 🙂 definitely don't feel bad! You've got some great interviews lined up too... Guess Georgetown is just missing out 😉

They must be looking for something really specific then, it seems like everyone got rejected today! They do get a boatload of applicants, so yeah, nothing to feel bad about! At least we know sooner rather than later...

was your statuses before rejection still just "SUBMITTED" in green?
so sorry again everyone, but most of you already have AMAZING interviews at other schools 🙂

I was on the medical school campus last week, and it looked awesome except that the housing around the campus seems a little costly. Where do most "budget conscious" medical students live?

First rejection of the cycle and my top choice.

I am sooo confused but for my transcript thing it says "not applicable" (WTF?!)

  • Transcripts:
    • Emory University: Not Applicable
  • Other Supporting Documents:
    • Other supporting documents have not been received

I seriously dont understand. For supporting docs do they mean my committee letter? I sent all of this stuff in mid-june/early july....

they only ask for transcripts if you are accepted (it says somewhere in the secondary instructions haha i worried too)!! don't worry about the transcript thing just yet 🙂
i think the other supporting documents mean like updates or something. i don't think its anything to worry about. i have the same thing on my page too!

First rejection as well...This is getting real now!

Great question... many students (at least most first year students I'm aware of) live in Foxhall just to the west, Glover Park just to the north, or in the immediate vicinity of the school, but housing is pretty expensive, especially relative to the rest of the country. Basically, the housing market within the District of Columbia itself is very competitive amongst buyers because demand is so high, and DC itself has height restrictions all throughout putting a dampener on supply.

Arlington's (across the river in Virginia) where you're going to find more affordable housing, and there's a Georgetown shuttle running between the Rosslyn metro station (and the Rosslyn neighborhood in Arlington- Rosslyn's just across the Potomac from Georgetown). For the same price as one bedroom in a house with other students, you could potentially get your own apartment. Dupont Circle (where the other shuttle goes, to the Dupont Circle metro) is very, very pricey but that is also because it is a very desirable neighborhood.

I can't give you an exact quote but you're probably looking at anywhere from $1100-$1500 per month (including utilities) for a studio apartment in Arlington and anywhere from $1400 to $1900 a month in Dupont Circle. Again, take this with a grain of salt- it really depends on what you're looking for in terms of amenities, and prices aren't exact. And I'm pretty sure that most students are renting at the low end of the spectrum.

You also have to look at it this way- you may choose to live in a cheaper apartment that's farther from Georgetown, but you also need to factor in the greater costs of commuting (Metro fares can add up quickly per month).
