2014-2015 Indiana University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who have already interviewed and were in the morning session (Indy campus), what time did the end for you guys? I have a 12pm information session listed on the schedule but I'm not sure if I'll have time to catch a bus at 2pm. Thanks!

It went til 1!

Any EDP applicants think it is likely that we will hear back this week? Based on last year's IUSM application feed it seems possible (a number of EDP applicants were notified on September 25th). Although last year's application feed also seems to suggest they began interviews a week earlier last year. I'm just ready to know.

I had a rec letter issue regarding the "personal, non-academic" letter. Should I call the admissions office? Or wait until if/when I'm offered an II?

I don't see how it could hurt. You might benefit from the exposure effect before they have a chance to decline you pre-II. Though I don't know if a real person even sees the apps before II screening...

I called about a LOR before I got my II and they basically said they didn't care about letters til after you get your invite. I guess it doesn't really hurt to call them and check though, but they may not be too receptive. I would start on getting a substitute letter now though if you don't think one of your letters is going to fly.

So to be considered for an interview, I only need to have submitted my primary and my LORs right?

They don't look at the letters until after they invite you for interview. That's what they told me at least

I've never heard of this! It definitely makes for a nervous week now. I just assumed all EDP heard back on Oct. 1st. However, last year the 25th was the last Wednesday of the month. I'm guessing that since Oct. 1st is on a Wednesday this year, we may hear back then. I interviewed 9/3 so I would think that my group would be the first to hear back.

As for letters, I interviewed without my personal letter being up-to-date (or so I believe). Granted, I'm EDP, I believe the letters are significant when ADCOMs meets for final decision. Perhaps, an incomplete application (i.e. missing a letter) just delays the ADCOMs from reviewing your application. Maybe that's obvious to some, but the portal says Under Review until the application is complete, then it says Under Consideration. Also, my interview never discussed my LORs so I doubt it is going to affect you.

That was my experience as well. At the interview even, they were reminding people to get LORs and II forms in. Applicant portal says due by the day you interview though, so if possible I would do that.

I'm an EDP applicant anxiously awaiting to hear back from IUSM. My interview was on 9/3 and I felt fine coming out. It went long, so I missed the bit at the noon info session about when admittances are released. From what I see here, they may have never spoken about if and when EDP applicants will hear back prior to October 1st. Fortunately I've got classes and research to keep me busy, but this wait is tough even with distractions.

On the LoRs and IIs, I definitely had those in before the interview. They ask you to do so and thus you should. My LoRs were in before I got my interview date, and I had my II completed within a week of receiving it. The ADCOM notified me that I hadn't paid through the IUPUI grad app as it was a barrier to being assigned a date. I had in fact paid already, submitted a receipt confirming this, and got my interview date within a couple of weeks after having done so.

For those who received an II, how long did it take for them to process your LoRs?

Just received an interview date via the portal but haven't received an email conformation or any kind of notification...is this definitely my date?

It says 2012-2013 year, and I meant the number of applicants, interviews, and matriculants isnt the same as the MSAR. They're not off by a ton though.

Do any applicants who have already interviewed have any knowledge of when we will be notified about acceptance? I'm EDP and getting nervous as October 1st approaches. Also noticed in last year's thread that students were notified the week before the 1st.

I don't but as I have said earlier, I think we won't know until the 1st because it falls on a Wednesday. I hope we find out earlier than that because I REALLY want to know.

Does anyone know if email is the typical protocol from IU? I know Columbia sends out phone calls or so I've heard, so I'm not sure exactly how we will be notified. Also, for a more specific date, someone could always call the Admissions Office..

I am interviewing at one of the regional sites here in a few weeks. What should I bring with me? On their interview tips, IU says to not leave any material with the interviewers. Does this refer to additional things such as CVs and abstracts?

Also, what is their interview style?

Thanks in advance for the help.

will IU silently reject people that don't get II's or do they send out rejection emails? going on 8 weeks now...

They have sent out rejection emails pre II. It seems weird to do this for some and not others. Hopefully they're just backlogged!

I called Indiana University yesterday, they said there was a backlog. I submitted my application on August 12 and it was still with the review committee.

My application has just changed from "In Process" to "Under Consideration." Hang tight people!

I applied EDP and received my acceptance letter in the mail today! They sent it to my college apartment instead of my permanent address.

For anyone who may look at this thread in the future, the date on the letter was September 25.

Good luck to everyone still having interviews and all the best to those awaiting a response!

Congrats!! 🙂

I got my acceptance letter today as well. The letter was titled on the 25th, postmarked the 26th, and arrived the 27th. My best wishes to everyone still waiting, I hope to have several of you as classmates next year! I'm torn between continuing here in WL and switching to Indy.

Out of state, interviewing here October 8th! Avg stats so I hope that this gives hope to others that are still waiting for that invitation.
I heard they have student hosting. How do I register/request for it? Please help.

Congrats to all the accepted EDP applicants 😀 you're officially gonna be doctors !!! So exciting

Hey, for those who got EDP offers, did everyone just get three pages of paper with a return envelope? Are we simply supposed to write a short memo with out decision on attendance and campus choice? I feel like a form for this would have been useful to include, but I received nothing of the sort and want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
