2014-2015 Indiana University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was invited to interview here recently. I've been looking through the Indiana website, but I'm having trouble understanding how the regional campuses work. If students are placed at a regional campus, do they complete only the first 2 years there? After that, are students assigned to any clinical site? I noticed from the web site that some campuses, like Evansville, offer 3rd and 4th year clerkships. So, do students remain at their assigned campus for all four years, unless it's stated that 3rd or 4th year is not offered?

I would appreciate any explanations! Thank you!

Also, does anyone know what dates are being offered for the interview? I'm trying to get the Dean's letter for the disciplinary action, and I don't have access to the interview scheduling yet. A general month would be very helpful. Thanks!

I am 90% sure that at my interview, the group of us were told that students who complete the first 2 years at regional campuses are guaranteed to do years 3 and 4 in Indy if they should choose to do so; they also have first dibs of completing years 3&4 at their regional campus if they would like. Did anyone else hear this at their interview? Like I said, 90% sure that this is what we were told - just would like confirmation from another person.

I do also remember that if you are at the Indy campus years 3 & 4 that you do have to complete some rotations outside of Indy (like 3 ... a low number, but still important to know).

I'm pretty sure this is what they told us. I don't remember exact percentages though

I have no idea how all of the campuses work but I received an II last week and this morning I received an email telling me that I will interview on November 12th. They don't give you an option to schedule it, they just pick a date for you so just wait for that. It says they will give you 2-4 weeks notice. All you can do is pick your first choice for interview site on the applicant portal. I'm going to call make sure the Dean's letter and the legal disclosure form were received by them and that I'm all good to go because they don't like to send any confirmations.

Thanks for the info! That sounds like pretty short notice. Did you physically take the letter to your school to be signed?

I emailed the Dean's letter and his office said they would mail it out the next day. I hope that's what happened. Yeah exactly 2 weeks notice for my interview date, good thing I'll be in the area.

For those who interviewed at Indianapolis...what time was the day over?? I'm booking a flight out and wonder if trying to catch a 7:00pm is cutting it close?? They said my interview is at 2:15pm.

I don't think it's cutting it close, I think I ended up finishing around 2pm. I had a flight leaving at 5 and I had time to take a bus to the airport, and eat and everything before leaving!

You'll be fine! I interviewed around that time and had a flight leaving at 710pm. I had time to go back to my hotel, change and take a bus to the airport. And eat there before my flight!

Has anyone submitted their transcript and had the portal say that it has been received?

Does anybody know if there are student hosts for interviews at the Indianapolis campus and if so, how to get one?

send an e-mail to[email protected], the subject should read: Lodging Request for (interview date).
Please include your name, gender, pet allergies, gender preference of host, phone number, e-mail, and the date you will be interviewing, as well as any other information you think will be helpful.

I submitted my primary app on August 1st.. I haven't heard anything for an interview yet. Just wondering if anyone who submitted around then has interviewed??

Did anyone who interviewed in October get a response yet?

Not me. I believe the adcoms meet only once a month for decisions on applicants. I'd imagine sometime in November we will hear back? Could be wrong though.

Me neither. interviewed 10/1. I've been checking my mailbox regularly lol

I interviewed here 9/10, with no word on acceptance/waitlist/rejection - does this mean I'm on some sort of waitlist? Anyone else interview in Sept without hearing back yet? :O

I know some people from September heard back. Until you hear something, I believe your status is undecided. I believe IU gives you a total score on your application post interview and that score will determine when you will reviewed by the admissions committee. Once you are reviewed and a decision is made, you will be notified. At least that is my understanding baring some logical assumptions lol.

Also they review applicants only once per month I think.

Hi guys, I just got an II today and I have a couple of questions which I'm sure they have probably been asked already but I'm having a hard time finding them. First, how do we send the Legal Disclosure form and the Dean of Students Evaluation? By e-mail, mail or do we just hand them in when we interview? Also, I probably know the answer to this already but, the Personal, Science and Non-science evaluations, are those the same as the LOR we sent through AMCAS? If so, do we have to do anything?

Thanks in advance!

You have to mail both the Legal Disclosure and the Dean of Students Evaluation to the school, and they want it as soon as possible. The letters should be the same ones, and they will categorize the letter. I actually called Admissions and asked because I was confused too. Hope this helps!

Thanks! I just noticed that the application portal still says in process so I guess it will take sometime to update the letters and stuff. And, if you don't mind, who is supposed to fill out the Dean of Students Evaluation? I know it says "the person who maintains disciplinary record" but who is that haha.

For my school, it was the Office of Student Affairs. I contacted them, provided the form and the address, and they mailed it in for me.

Sorry to hear that. Are you in state or out of state applicant?

OOS non-trad. Really only applied there for geographic reasons (trying to stay in the Midwest), so I'm not too upset over it.

You should be fine. I had a 7:30 pm flight and interviewed at 3:15. Got lost on the way back to the hotel to pick up my bags so I didn't head out to the airport until 5-5:15ish. I was in the airport by 6:15 pm. Traffic on the way to the airport wasn't bad and the lines into the terminal weren't bad either.

This thread is sooooo strangely dead silence.

As the first Nov Friday comes and will be gone soon, did any interviewees from late Sept and/or Oct get anything...accept/waitlist/reject?

Interviewing here soon! What was the interview like at Indianapolis campus? Relaxed? Stress? I know it's open file, but I'm curious as to have everyone's interview day went!

Open file, 2 interviewers for 45 minutes, mine wasn't so stressful but lots of ethical questions and random questions. the questions are pre written so they will be taking notes. Lots of ppl there, no tour, med students were really nice, no lunch, beautiful campus. Admissions staff wasn't the nicest acted like we should be lucky to be even interviewed, they didn't try to salel school at all. Also one of my interviewer kept on checking her phone( thought it was kinda unprofessional, but again it was a surgeon so maybe they were on call) lol

Overall, I still really liked IUSM so hoping I'll get in!

AMCAS processed Oct. 7, email receipt from IUSM Oct. 9. We're a month out now... anyone else submit around that time? I'm gathering it can take up to 2 months to receive II or rejection. Also, would invitations to interview come by mail or email? I assume email, but I just wanted to check. I don't live at home so I wouldn't know if something came by mail.

They come by email.

Got the II! For those of you who filled out the graduate application thingy, what do I put for the "External Application Number"? Also, for any MSTP applicants, did you select "yes" for the question asking if we are applying to a dual degree program?

Hey!!! Does anyone know if there is a place to put our luggage during the interview?? I have to catch a flight right after so I'll have to bring my things with me

I was wondering, how long does it take for the interview applicant portal to update? It's been almost two weeks since I submitted the grad school application/mailed in the forms, and I don't see any checkmarks. In previous pages, I noticed that some people waited a week for an interview date. Should I be concerned, or did those who received interview dates wait for longer than this? Thank you!

I wouldn't be worried, I didn't have all my checkmarks complete until the day before my interview. Also, it'll take a couple weeks to receive a date.

What is the best place to interview based on flying from out of state? Trying to reduce spending cost as much as possible

OOS Interview 9/10. No response at all; I even called... Has anyone who interviewed OOS received any notification of waitlist, acceptance or rejection?
