2014-2015 Jefferson Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have not received an II yet and my secondary portal shows interview: decision pending. Should I write an update email if nothing has changed since my application? Can I write and email saying that I am still interested? To whom should I write the email

I find it hard to believe that you have done nothing new at all since you submitted your AMCAS. I mean even a few small updates would be good. But I'd say if you are very interested in Jefferson, it certainly would not hurt at all to seem them a strongly worded letter about why you are interested. Just don't half-ass it if you don't have a real vested interest as a medicare letter won't persuade anyone. Jefferson as a whole seems to love updates/interest letters

Any current students know what the scholarship game is like at Jeff? Do most students get a bit of money? Are there a number of full/half scholarships, etc.?
Thanks!

Hey guys, I've been a long time lurker here on SDN.

I applied to Jefferson last summer, complete somewhere around July. I have sent in three different updates over the last many months, the last one going out yesterday. I got a reply from Dr Brooks shortly after the one I sent yesterday saying she would be happy to talk to me about my application. I will be calling her later this week to chat. Anyone else have this experience? I'm sure she gets tons of emails every day, so I was surprised to hear back from her so soon and to get a response like that.

I would absolutely love to snag one of those last few interview spots for this cycle!

my best guess would be to treat it like an interview. Or like an audition. She may as well sit down and ask you "convince me to give you an interview?" I believe a person on last year's Jefferson forum was from Botswana and he sent an "in the area email" to Dr. Brooks and she met with him and asked him that very same question (i forgot the exact scenario but just look at last years thread). Try and convince her that you deserve a shot.

Could someone post the Secondary application questions again please? I have scroll through the whole thread and I cannot find them. Thanks in regards

Just Posted this is last year's thread by accident... Here it goes again!

I sent in an update with fall grades and new work history on 2/21 to the generic admissions email ([email protected]). The update letter was a PDF with my signature, and I also sent official transcripts. I have only received the automated response so far. Should I have cc'd Drs. Callahan or Brooks? Should I follow-up with a phone call or another email? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Got an Alternate List Email today. Interviewed on 2/25. Very disappointed about this because I thought my interview went very very well. Does anyone know if being put on the Alternate List is more or less an inevitable rejection?

Just interviewed here today and looooved it. Everyone seemed so happy to be there. Jeff wasn't really one of my top choices before (though I'd certainly have considered attending if I were accepted) but they sure put on a great interview day there and it's definitely nearer to the top of my list now 😉

Does anyone know where I can find Dr. Brooks' or Dr. Callahan's emails?

there is very little movement on the alternate list compared to the HPWL. What were your stats? Im sorry about the alternate list but keep your head up.

I'm trying to keep my head up but it's been really difficult being that I haven't been accepted anywhere yet. I believe my stats are competitive which is making me even more discouraged because I really don't know what I did wrong.

Stats:
32 MCAT (PS:10 VR: 10 BS: 12) 3.7 cGPA, 3.6 Science GPA. Solid and unique ECs with an exceptional amount of clinical exposure.

Really wish I could figure out what went wrong here.

LizzyM ~70. Out of school and working full time for 2 years. 4 years of bench research, Masters degree in engineering, conference presentations, etc. Various shadowing experiences both local and abroad (~200 hours). Involvement in philanthropy both during school and at present. TAed multiple classes during undergrad/grad.

Thanks and congrats on your acceptance!! 🙂

It's just hard out there man. I'm in the same boat as you - thought I would have a good application but it hasn't yielded an acceptance yet. You just have to have faith that you will end up where you're supposed to be. If you don't get in this cycle, well your application will be better next cycle because you will have a whole years worth of new activities to include. That's what I'm telling myself anyway. This process is crazy and if you sit down and think about it, incredibly unfriendly to most people. Just realize that you're still in the fight - it's a marathon, not a sprint. Just because you don't finish your first marathon doesn't mean you can't run another one (and that's worst case scenario assuming you don't get in off the waitlist this year).

There's many in the same boat. Remember this isn't an exact science, schools want different things from applicants, whether that's grades, EC, diversity, etc.

If this is truly what you want to do, don't get discouraged. Reapply or take a year off, work, go to grad school, etc. Don't think about becoming a stronger candidate, think about becoming a better scientist.

There is still hope this year. Just in case, many people have better luck after enrolling in a medical related masters.

I'm sorry if this question has come up earlier in the thread and I missed it - could anyone comment on whether Jefferson rejects post-interview? Or are the typical outcomes alternate, high priority wait list or accept? Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

At the interview Dr. Callahan stated it is very unusual to be rejected post-interview
