2014-2015 Loma Linda University Application Thread

How was your interview with a student? I feel like those always make me a little bit more nervous
It was very relaxed. It was so informal that we just went and found a couch in the lobby of the building and did the interview there. She had a list of questions but didn't really even ask any of them. It was more of just a conversation about me as a person and not really much about what was on my application. Don't be nervous about the student interview. The MD one was definitely more intimidating, but still very relaxed.

I am non-SDA and got an II in October. So I think they are sending out II to both SDA and non-SDA right now.

When were you complete for your II? I'm just trying to gauge how far along they are in reviewing apps. THANKS!

EDIT: OOPS I think I've already asked you that question already!!! Ignore. 🙂

Just withdrew my II on 11/25. It was such a difficult decision for me, though after a lot of prayer, it felt like the right decision. I got accepted to my state school, so there is no need to take away a spot from another applicant. I hope one of you guys get the invite since there is still a little more than a week left. Take care everyone, and G-d bless.

Is it way too late to submit an application here?
If its still open, do it. You have nothing to lose. For example: I submitted my secondary very late october and landed an interview at UI Carver. And my stats are really not that great. You just honestly never know until you try.

I was so caught up in working and trying to finish my other secondaries that I missed the secondary deadline by 1 day. Is it worth it to still submit it or is it a crapshoot? My stats are below average for Loma Linda but I would love to go there bc I feel strongly that my vision and values align so closely with theirs (SDA). Not sure what to do....

You should probably contact them and see if there's any flexibility for submission.

Anyone have any idea when more II's might be coming out? I was waitlisted last year... Hoping for better this year! I figure if I was wait listed I should have a good shot at another interview right? Fingers crossed....

Have you had some kind of an improvement in your app this year?

Most definitely. Worked full time in a Path lab last year, volunteered in the ER and went on a medical mission to Ecuador for ten weeks. Currently working full time in at PT office and part time at the Path lab... so... yeah I've done a bit haha 🙂 Hoping it helps.

If I end up reapplying next year, this is gonna be my biggest issue, cause the only thing that can really change at this point is the MCAT, well and my science GPA may go up a little.

If last year is any indication acceptances go out the third Thursday of the month. So anyone who didn't interview as ED will probably hear back Dec 18th-ish. Then so on and so forth each month till April.

Does anyone know if LLU is receptive to in the area emails/phone calls? I am on the east coast and I have two interviews coming up on the west coast in a 10 day span, and was wondering if it would look bad if I notified them of this. Also, are there any interview dates between January 13th and January 23rd? Thanks!

My interview is scheduled for a Tues, so I would look at a Tues in that range. I am not confident that they will respond to in the area emails. The response to try and move my interview up if a slot became available was not positive.

Thank you for the feedback... I'll have to think some more about what to do.

Have you had a generally good experience from talking to them so far? Or have they been sort of mean/cranky towards you? Just wondering because of the way you worded your post.

Anyone know whether LLU looks favorably on interest letters/emails for an interview invite?

I want to share what @thedoctor8706 shared with me about research opportunities and mentoring during match at LLU. I'm excited about the school. Have my fingers crossed for 12/18!

"There are tons of research opportunities at LLU, in fact during your first year, they have a few days of advertising where different faculty come in and recruit med students for summer research projects that take place between 1st and 2nd year. These are paid positions either by a check or grants. Some students continue on with these mentors into second year and beyond, depending on how long of a project it is and what level of interest there is. And yes, many of these students are published! Some projects don't necessarily lead to a publication, but most do, and I guess that's a question you have to ask when the time comes!

You are actually required to pick a faculty mentor when it comes time for the match, and you have to have at least one meeting to get settled into the whole system. The faculty have been awesome, always quick to respond to emails and available for questions. I haven't heard complaints from other specialties as well, I really think one of the strong points of the LLU program is the faculty, and how much they care for students. Definitely no malignancy in the environment here, I have no complaints!"

LLU is an awesome program. I have heard so many great things about this place. I hope you get the good news!

I GOT MY INTERVIEW INVITE!!! I was wondering if there were people that have already interviewed and/or are matriculating that could give me tips as this is my absolute top choice.

Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats! Do you mind sharing when you sent out your application to llu?

Just interviewed at LLU. Awesome program and interesting interviews. Definitely my top choice school; I'll automatically go here if they accept me. Now for your questions.

Interview are completely open-file; they an see your grades, MCAT scores, coursework, essays, everything. So be prepared for questions on coursework and your academic side. Interviews are in faculty offices; you are essentially a 1 hour appointment time with a faculty who is going about his normal daily work. They use a wide range of faculty interviewers; they use basic science professors in addition to physicians. Some of the admissions staff are very sharp; one person had everyone's names memorized and could recite several facts about you that were provided in your file🙂

I got a lot of questions on my family and social life. Also got a lot of interesting questions on my medical mission trips and some issues about missions in general.

Warning: they do not feed you anything until lunch, unlike other medical schools that usually at least give you coffee and pastries before your interviews. They also do not distribute water bottles until lunch; they say you can use the drinking fountains.

Thank you so much for your support, I am in the exact same boat as you as far as automatically accepting if given the offer. Maybe, God willing, we will be future classmates. 😀

So, was it all just standard interview format? No MMI or other interview types?

Loma Linda does not use MMI. Just 2 separate 45 minute interviews one-on-one with a faculty member.

Got an II last night!! OOS, Non-SDA, complete August 22. I am so excited to see this school!! ...and getting to leave the midwest during the dead of winter for a California weekend won't be too bad either 🙂

Congrats! Do you know what dates they are scheduling interviews for?

Can anyone who gets accepted in the December acceptances (not sure when they roll those out) hola at us all to know..?

I wonder what time acceptance calls are made. Waiting is painful...

I am in the same boat guys.. Did anyone here interview on the 25th in the morning? That is when I interviewed..
