2014-2015 New York Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is it normal that it took them 2 weeks to receive my committee letter after I had submitted my secondary (that was the last thing needed to complete my app) even though it was available on AMCAS? Submitted on 7/14 but wasn't complete until 7/29 because of this.

Maybe their stats are too high, especially OOS

I have average stats; 3.67/30, and was put on hold. Also OOS. Maybe those of us put on hold are just missing something that resonates with the NYMC mission statement.

I looked at last years thread, there was no mention of any holds before the first IIs went out in September, so this might be a new thing for them.

Yeah, I'm gold to hold off forming an opinion on what the hold status means until IIs come out.

If it makes you guys feel better...no hold, 27 mcat. Could mean the people not on hold are rejected which im expecting

I got keep in touch but no hold (35 MCAT) maybe their hold is like a small pool in which case it's bad we didn't get on hold.. Ugh... Don't know what to make of all this

3.8/32, OOS, keep in touch but no hold... *shrugs*
Complete 7/17

When were all of you guys complete? No email here, but my letters only came in 7/28.

Completed 7/15, received staying in touch e-mail, but no hold or anything else yet.

3.75/34/Canadian and I only got the stay in touch email. I submitted my secondary on the day I received it (15th) so maybe my file hasn't been reviewed yet as I know some people received and submitted their secondaries much earlier. This is so stressful.

Does anyone know the wording of the hold e-mail? versus if it is a small pool

Sounds like a standard hold

I still don't know if I'm rooting for a hold or no news, I'm going crazy

standard hold/impending rejection lololol at the very least I know my money was put to good use, instead of getting funneled to Europe or something

I think last year was an anomaly though. I thought they were behind for some reason...

From scanning the thread it looks like they've gotten through apps that were complete up to 7/9-7/10, so if we're complete after we may still be receiving a hold in the coming days

For reference I submitted my secondary 7/14

I submitted on 7/5. Was complete on 7/7. Not on hold yet. I don't think it is worth worrying about it too much. As long as you aren't rejected, you're still in the game.

What does the keep in touch email mean? I got it but not sure what to make of it (3.9 gpa/29 mcat/touro grad)

Also on hold complete the 7th. LizzyM of 73.5. I'm ok with it though. Seems like people got put on hold at GW and then were offered a II shortly thereafter. Hopefully that is the case. 🙂

It would be nice to know if anyone received an II or rejection today... seems weird that they would opt to send out a mass number of holds to begin to the app cycle.

The whole "keep in touch" email seems to be weird. I can't make anything out of it.

On hold, submitted very early July basically the day after it came out, 3.85/36

I got the keep in touch email only; complete 7/14

How are you guys finding out about holds? Email or status update? I got the "keep in touch" email today, but no status change as of yet.

I feel your pain....me too!!!

I know this has probably been discussed but too lazy to go through 7 pages.

I'm currently in an MPH program and just finished my first semester. It looks like NYMC has this strange requirement of a graduate school recommendation letter so I one of my professors agreed.

Do I just add his name to the primary AMCAS application and just list NYMC under it? Is it too late to do this? Will my application for other schools be delayed by any chance until this new recommendation letter is received through the AMCAS Letter Writer from my professor?

Yes you can just create a spot for his letter and only assign it to NYMC. As long as you don't assign this letter to any other school, it will not delay your application.

It shouldn't hold up your applications to other schools if you don't assign it to any of your other schools.

I'm a grad student too, and it's not that strange a requirement. Quite a few of the schools I applied to either want a letter from one of my grad school faculty, or from my grad advisor.

I've determined that SDN during admissions season, especially this early, is a bit like walking around a modern art museum. There's a bright yellow blob on the wall and everyone's standing around going "It's the sun!" "No, it's a banana!" "No, it's a bridge!" and "Ooooh, brilliant! I see the artist's inner torment!". And then there's the people in the back going, "It's a yellow blob, guys. I don't think it means anything else."

I can agree with one thing, I definitely see the artist's inner torment!

Funneled to Europe? Hahaha

Thanks for applying email only, here. No hold email.

How long did it typically take for a secondary application to get "processed?" Apparently they don't provide any updates on received LORs until the secondary app gets processed.

I submitted my secondary on 7/14. It says my payment has been received, but my secondary and my LOR have not been processed.

Anyone else in a similar situation? Should I call?

Same here. I used FAP and I can't log into my secondary either so I assumed they received my secondary? Emailed them last week but no response yet.

That seems like a problem. That means we can't even be "complete" even if we have everything submitted because they didn't process the secondary app.
