MSAR needs to check its facts!
IMO: the matriculation numbers on the MSAR are the best way to judge a school's IS v. OOS preference regardless of what the school or MSAR says. I suspect many schools try to undersell their IS preference but the numbers never lie 😉 #TrustTheNumbers

Alright, thanks @cj_cregg and @PharmDoc13 .
@Starbucko This is a little different from what the previous posters stated, but I think you are right.
I remember the dean saying that they have never pulled from the third or second tier of the waitlist.
@Glandzburg Possibly! That's surprising haha it is such a funny part of the movie

Also just got accepted! Interviewed on Nov 25. Though I have interviewed at most of the CA med schools (Cali resident), OUWB impressed me the most! Definitely an honor to get an acceptance!!

Goodluck to everyone else this cycle!!

Congrats! Would you go to OUWB instead of a California school? I'm curious b/c I didn't realize how impressive OUWB was

Potentially, I think there is a lot of personal fit involved in terms of community, etc. Though MI is far from my family and friends, so I would definitely have to think about it. It also depends on which Cali school. The Cali schools didn't really bother trying to sell their school whereas OUWB did, and did very well.

For those of you who recently interviewed, did faculty say anything about post-interview acceptance rates? Is it still 60%?

They're offering 475 interviews for 125 spots, so assuming roughly 220-250 acceptances it's probably slightly under 50%. It was about 50% last cycle IIRC.

Oh ok thanks! 🙂 The reason I'm asking is bc I'm from CA too and I got an II to Oakland and I was thinking about withdrawing to save some money but I don't know much about the school. On the other hand, I feel like CA schools don't really need to sell themselves bc they're CA schools...:/

from CA here. accepted to OUWB this year. I interviewed at Davis this cycle and went to another UC with a medical school for undergrad. OUWB was very impressive in terms of the facility and the hospital affiliation, more impressive than both schools that I've experienced firsthand. Beaumont is ranked #1 hospital in Michigan. OUWB's anatomy lab is on par with UCSF's brand new anatomy lab. The faculty and administration are beyond supportive and it seemed like they worked very hard to create an amazing culture . If you have the financials and the time, I would definitely give the school a chance. You never know what is out there until you experience it. #findyourfit. ^^

WOW, That sounds great I did not know any of that! Thanks for the extra info I will definitely look more into the school after finals are over 🙂 I haven't received any invites from any CA school D:....I go to the one UC that doesn't have a medical school attached...lol that school.

Anyone remember when they said their first ever match list would be out for us to see? (Is it before April 30?)

Based on the NMRP website it looks like the match occurs on March 20th. I'd imagine that they would likely be able to pull a list together within the next month, but obviously it's up to them when they want to release it.

Rejected just now. Complete early October LM 68-70 OOS. Good luck to everyone!

Are Feb./March interviews here, interviews for the wait-list or interviews for 5 spots? Also heard some schools reject post-interview even after a stellar interview, for other random weaknesses in the application like lack of experience, grades, etc... I'm really in love with this school, so I'm pulling my hair out. Someone please calm me down. 🙁

When I interviewed at OUWB, they briefly discussed this. They said that if applicants spend the money and time to interview at a school, there should be spots available. So, you are not only interviewing for waitlist spots. They didn't mention the number of spots. However, they did mention that is why they don't officially form the waitlist till later. They don't accept all the great applicants from the earlier interview dates right away. They want to be able to compare some of the borderline candidates to later interviewees.

If I misunderstood or am wrong, please correct me!

Just got an email from OUWB about their holiday hours and continued review, so I guess I wasn't yet rejected. not expecting much here though at this point.

+1 was put on hold in August and have survived rejection thus far but not too hopeful!

Yeah that makes more sense. I think they'd tell us if the class was full.

Definitely! Something I love about OUWB is how transparent they are with things.

They have one of the most considerate adcoms out there imo, doing everything they can to make sure applicants don't freak out. Good luck in your cycle though, and again thanks for your response to my freak-out post!

I was wondering if any current students could shed some light on the international opportunities at OUWB.

I know that a lot of medical schools have opportunities for students to do electives abroad or summer work abroad. Do a lot of students at OUWB do this also? I know that OUWB is affiliated with 5 programs (https://www.oakland.edu//Default.aspx?id=28158&sid=340&CWFriendlyUrl=true). Do a lot of students go on these programs? Are there other programs that students usually go on?

I am just interested in global health/tropical medicine, and I was wondering if there were opportunities for this type of work/study.

Thanks!

I don't know if any students are currently doing something like this (they may very well be, but i'm just not aware of it because I haven't really looked into this kind of stuff), but there are some professors who are really personally and professionally interested in global health outreach and things like that. So the opportunities are there, although I personally don't know what sort of infrastructure has been established for such things. I heard of one girl who planned to do her Capstone project in a different country, i'm not sure what became of that.

Rejected! I was put on hold pre-interview back in the beginning of August. Good luck all!

has anyone had trouble typing answers into the supplemental app??? yes i know this is last minute and today is the last day but **** happens....and now i am having ridiculous trouble with this stupid thing. i can't type into the boxes.

same thing happened to me except I had everything done and just wanted to review and submit, but the site won't let me!!

Per admissions Twitter feed:

"@OUWBAdmissions: Our supplemental app closed early today (tech issue) & is back up & running. Will someone please share message on SDN? Deadline is midnight."

Edit: posted about 1 hour ago

I'll be heading back to the Detroit airport in a rental on 1/27 interview day if anyone needs a ride. I'll be leaving after the meeting with the Dean (415 pm). Please PM me.

Declined my interview invitation here which I received in December and scheduled for February 13th. Hoping one of you folks gets it!

I keep checking the Twitter page and my phone today. Hoping for a phone call! Interviewed end of November and I absolutely loved this school and the staff.
