Is there any new data on residency matching?

Current OUWB MS4 [Charter Class] here.

I'm sure they will make a big public announcement after our Match Day; in the meantime... we wait.

I discussed OUWB vs. Wayne in an old blog entry: http://blog.amandaxi.com/2011/07/07/making-the-final-decision/ [I have more thoughts on the comparison now, but will be waiting until Match results are released before I post them]. Feel free to ask questions!

Good luck on the match! I'm sure you're counting down the days haha.

FWIW we've heard of at least 2 people who matched early into very competitive surgical specialties from the charter class. Good start.

Good point - yes, I can confirm that our two early match candidates were successful. We also had another successful air force match [that individual found out way back in the fall]. So far so good!

My interview is tomorrow so looking forward for the tour.

GPA- 2.5 MCAT- 22

Just curious... I thought you needed over a 24 to even fill out the secondary...

I thought so too. A few more gems like "Don't feel bad most interviewer are IDIOTS anyway they didn't have enough sleep or had been interviewing lots of students at the same time without any break." (from the Wayne State thread) should certainly endear him/her to the admissions committee.

All these students took the time and work hard on their essay and then had to fly in for the interview then these IDIOTS interviewer has to fall asleep on the interview.

So you never been around IDIOTS in high school or college? You must be the follower.

Further details will come from the school directly, but OUWB's charter class had a fabulous match!

Any insight into the matches? I cant wait to see the list for the charter class!

Edit: As per Facebook, OUWB will be releasing a match list later today! 🙂

Yeah nothing I can provide on my end so far, but we got a look at it and it's pretty impressive. Matches in several top programs and in competitive fields, which is really impressive for a charter class.

Waitlist info is going out. I just got waitlisted (first tier). Looking at last year's thread, it looks like they went through at least 60 people from the waitlist (as of June, there may have been more), so I'm not losing hope just yet!

+1. I really hope I get in! Loved this school. Good luck to everyone!

Got waitlisted first tier too. But I'm also accepted to Wayne...I would chose OUWB over Wayne but I really want to know if they'll accept me asap. I don't want to find a place to live in detroit and have to sign a lease and then have to make hurried attempts at relocating if accepted in June...that would be a huge hassle.

My waitlist email said that they won't start accepting people off the waitlist until late April after applicants are required to only hold one acceptance (that's April 30th according to AAMC). So you'll have to wait at least a month, probably longer.

I realize that 🙁
Btw where did you get info that ~60 ppl got accepted off the first tier list last year? I checked the thread real quick and couldn't see anything except 1 person celebrating they got off the list.

This post in June says that they called the school and were told that there were 37 people left on the first tier. Earlier in the thread, this post says the composition of the waitlist is 100 in tier 1 (and 50 in both tiers 2 and 3). 100-37= 63

We have to take them at their word, but I don't see how they would benefit from lying. The thread also has a report of a waitlist acceptance as late as August 1st, so 60 is probably a conservative estimate.

wow that's awesome! thanks!

Also waitlisted 1st tier...

can anyone confirm the statistics regarding the 65ish ppl being taken off the waitlist of 100 from the 1st tier.

The info in the other thread is probably the best info you'll get outside of calling the admissions office and asking directly.

Hmm.... So now I'm wondering if 44 is the number of acceptances offered to waitlisters rather than the total waitlist movement. It's highly likely that several people on the waitlist withdrew before being offered an acceptance. That could explain why there were only 37 people left on the list when only 44 were offered acceptances. Or maybe the first tier of the wait list is actually less than 100? Either way, all I can do right now is breathe deep and try not to obsess over it. The waiting game is so harsh 🙁

Hang tight. Tons of movement tends to occur in the few weeks before and after the 1 acceptance deadline.

Get an apartment in Royal Oak. OUWB and Wayne students both live there. It's a win-win.

Just withdrew my acceptance. This is an amazing school and I hope my spot goes to one of you!

Also just withdrew my acceptance from OUWB. Hope it goes to one of you fine folks!

When is it recommended to start looking for apartments? Or are the university apartments pretty solid? For OOS, how important is it to bring your car over?

I'm not a great resource for apartments [I would use the accepted Facebook group on that one], but I will say that you absolutely need a car. OUWB is in the suburbs and clinical clerkships span a pretty substantial radius [I've driven 30+ miles to get to a clerkship before]. One of my classmates somehow survived for a pretty substantial amount of time without a car, but he also had roommates that took him everywhere - just keep in mind that this is not a good idea since you'll be split into groups for APM in the preclinical years [we didn't have as many groups since our class was smaller] and may not be able to rely on your roommate or someone nearby to take you to those mandatory events. Plus, like I implied earlier... it's nearly impossible to get to some clinical clerkships without a car.

I concur with Amanda on this. It's the suburbs, you will need a car. No real way to get around it, especially since public transport in the metro Detroit area is not very good (well, by design, since the big 3 are here and they would obviously be opposed to it).

Nobody I know really lives in the University Apartments (okay, maybe one person). There's several apartments within a 5 min drive of campus and several more within 10 minutes. If you have decided for sure that you're going to OU and don't expect any conflicting things to come up (getting off waitlists, scholarships elsewhere, etc.) then you might as well start now. The FB group should be a good place to ask as well. OUWB gave out a student guide type thing during second look (might also have a PDF on the website somewhere, dig around) which has a list of apartments in the area and such.

I am on wait-list for several schools, but am worried about starting an apartment lease and getting into one of those schools at the last minute. Can you comment on the necessity of a car for the first two years? I understand it's very important for 3rd and 4th.

It's pretty much a necessity. You'll be driving to Troy (~15 mins away) almost every Thursday. There's also assorted events where you're driving to Royal Oak (~25 mins away). I suppose you could get a ride with your classmates but it's more of a hassle. Plus when it's winter it's not really feasible to be walking from your apartment to campus, even if it is a 5 min drive away.

Just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to those still waiting!

Really liked the school, its program and foremost their initiatives during the admission cycle . I have no doubt that it would be a much sought after school in the years to come. Had a very generous financial offer from the school too. Was a tough decision and wud be withdrawing my acceptance here. Best of luck to all waiting.
