2014-2015 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This kid is totally trolling.... first of all LizzyM 56?!?!! Second of all, I called to sign up for OSU's online anatomy course and at the end I asked about Waitlist movement. They said they have heard that rumor and do not understand how that's been spreading around. They are still compiling information and there have not been any calls made yet. There as not been any waitlist movement.

NOT COOL @DoctorDude7.

I stared at my phone all night. Thank you. Thanks for that.

@RainbowKittens - did they say when calls might actually start?

No Problem! I would've been anxiously checking my phone tonight as well if I hadn't asked about it... I did not bother to ask when calls would go out since I assume they would give me the same answer as before - WL movement will occur in May after April 30!

Do people think the progress you have made in the online Anatomy course would influence their decision-making at all? I was looking to complete the course in late May through early June when my schedule frees up a bit. Hope they don't use that against me in their deliberations!

Gahhh! How are we supposed to make a decision without knowing merit aid? I've been accepted to a school that I like a little better, but has given me minimal financial aid, and since I'm not getting any need-based money from OSU last night I pretty much decided to go there. How common is merit money? Would it be stupid to accept the offer here just on the chance I'll get some?

The aamc moving up the deadline didn't help things at al, especially when we interview until so late in the year. I will say that there are not a ton of admissions scholarships handed out. More need based aid is awarded.

My advice would be to evaluate the merit scholarships like the second year top 25 scholarships at this point: a potential benefit that could help ease the cost burden of school. But I wouldn't bank entirely on getting one as your sole deciding factor.

It's a great school, with an awesome curriculum and even better people, but cost is a very important factor to consider as well.

Best of luck with your decisions everyone!

Thanks Celdurant! If anyone has any additional insight to share on OSU's awarding of merit-based scholarships, it would be much appreciated🙂 April 30 is approaching quickly!

I called recently and they indicated all merit aid has gone out to the initial recipients. However some of these may be reassigned if original recipients withdraw.

...am I the only one who has still not received a financial aid package? This is a bit frustrating for me as I would like to make a decision. No one answers the phone in the financial aid department either.... -_-

Nope nothing yet.. I'm getting frustrated, they received my FAFSA in February...

Same position.

To everyone wondering about their financial aid packages not being uploaded, I was also in the same boat. I ended up calling the office of admissions earlier and they connected me to the student financial services. They told me that every year a handful of students packages do not get uploaded to their account and they manually add it, but it will take a day for it to show up on buckeye link (student portal). So call the office of admissions as soon as possible and they will transfer you and figure everything out! It's unfortunate that this is happening so late in the game, but at least it will be resolved!

hi all--I called and the same thing was told to me. So definitely call, and leave a voicemail if there is no response 🙂

Dear friends, I have reluctantly yielded my place in OSU's class to someone else, and wish that person and ALL OF YOU joy and success. (And impressive financial aid!) You have been treasured companions, and so you shall remain.

Since it is April 30th, are those who were deferred now on the wait list?

My financial aid still hasn't been updated and I've tried calling the financial aid office and no one has answered, so I've left a message with no return call. Any suggestions? Also, has anyone else aid still not be awarded??

I've been checking the portal every day for my financial aid and nothing yet either... Maybe I'll call on Monday. Has anyone else not gotten their aid yet?

Hey, check my post out from the other day, it talks about how to resolve the problem. But basically just call in to the office of admissions and they'll figure it out!

I clicked the most difficult button of my life yesterday and finally withdrew from Ohio State. I felt so welcomed and comfortable there, but it is time to plunge of trying out the East Coast. I did a bit of mourning yesterday, but I know that it was the right decision.

My sadness is transitioning into joy as I think about the school where I committed, and as I witness the excitement of people escaping waitlist purgatory at Ohio State and other institutions. As painful as it was, I know my withdrawal is going to make someone else's day or month or next four years!

I also turned down a Dean's Scholarship, so I hope some that someone here who has already chosen Ohio State will be getting an additional surprise!

@Kelilah, I am like you. I can't believe how excited and happy I am as I see my cyber-friends rejoicing about getting into the schools they chose. As a WL veteran myself, I do get the vicarious thrill. Good for all of you and all of us and God bless us every one! (Sez Tiny Tim. . .😉)

@Kelilah Best of luck in your school of choice!

Ahh thank you!

I called the admissions office but it went straight to their answering machine - i'm sure theyre just completely swamped with calls around this time of year. I didnt leave a message and called the med school's financial aid services number directly and Trueshonda told me I was one of the people who didn't get theirs uploaded and will upload it now. She said I'll have all the info by tomorrow and gave me the summary over the phone. Quick and easy!

Just got the acceptance call from Georgia!!!! AHHHH Going to be a Buckeye next year!!!:soexcited:😍

Eek, congratulations! I'm praying I get a call soon - want to join you soooo badly and become a Buckeye! And thanks for sharing, it's good to know they're making calls so quickly after the April 30th deadline.

Congrats to everyone getting calls yesterday and today!

Out of curiosity, what were your application statuses prior to getting the call from Columbus? No acceptances, holding "lesser" school, or holding "comparable" school?

I had an acceptance from another school, but I got off of the wait list at that school 5 hours prior so I am sure it had nothing to do with it.

Wow I received an acceptance call from Georgia today... looks like I'm going to be a Buckeye after all! I couldn't be happier and I can't wait to meet all of you! I was all set to go to another school in my state but The Ohio State will provide better opportunities, I feel so lucky to have made it!

@PatientN, congratulations! Welcome to Ohio!

15 minutes before my routine Friday night 8hr custodial shift, I noticed that I had missed a call from a Columbus, Ohio area code. I am absolutely shocked and honored to have been offered a seat in the class of 2019.

To those still waiting, I would like to share how I felt up to the point of receiving this exciting news and hopefully leave you with a sense on hope! I have been deferred since mid February and since then have seen several posts here from individuals lucky enough to be offered a spot. I began to feel hopeless and really did not believe that I would end up being one of the people to receive a call. This really can happen to you! Keep your chins up everyone! It's not over until it's over and any day now your day could be interrupted with a surprise that changes your life.

As for me, now I've got a very tough decision to make by next week!

Is there a facebook group for accepted students?

Yes. And if you can't find it from searching on Facebook, you'll get an email from OSU about it soon.
