Heyy I've been compete since mid September and I haven't heard anything back
I know exactly how you feel lightasday. Looking at the posts for other schools with rolling admission they are still stuck interviewing people that were complete in July and August. Other than that although school continue to interview well into the spring which is true but interview invites probably stop coming in January because they sign people up for an interview spot that is two months or so after the date one receives the interview invite. Personally, I have yet to hear back from 15 schools! Hoping for the best for me and to you lightasday and to all of those that are having to deal with this wait on a daily basis

Sometimes things get in the way of completing your application early and that is why I am keeping my faith in SUNY buffalo because of their random review process!

If anyone has any stories of how long they have been waiting to hear back from schools or any stories of a disappointing application cycle please share. There are many of us that are having it rough thus far in the application cycle and sharing would be a nice way destressing

Here's my application season data:

LizzyM < 70, MCAT > 30, top 10 undergrad engineering program, non-trad

MD
Applied to: 30 schools
Submitted secondaries/continued application to: 27 schools (changed my mind on 3)
Rejected from: 10 schools
Silence from: 17 schools
Interview invites: 1 school
Wait listed: 1 school

DO
Applied to: 5
Submitted secondaries: 1

I'm holding off on DO because I dislike how they require a large deposit within days of an acceptance. I'd rather get into the MD school I'm wait listed at than take an acceptance at the DO schools I'm interested in (this is all based on geographic location, which is incredibly important for my family).

I have also been complete since early September and have heard nothing from UB.

Don't lose hope - I completed my secondary app in July and was just offered an interview this past week for the end of February! It's a random review process of applications, so it doesn't really matter when you completed your secondary.

A couple questions for current UB students and/or applicants that have interviewed (I haven't received the packet yet) -
1. It seems that 2 people will be conducting an interview - is this one person after another, or two people in the same room?
2. Is this a blind interview (as in they don't know anything about us), or an interview where they have our application?
3. If this is an interview where they have our application, is there a way to access the secondary app we submitted to Buffalo? For the life of me I cannot remember if I stated "Unknown" or put down a specialty underneath the question where they asked us if we have any idea of what we would want to do.
4. How long does the actual interview portion last?

Thanks in advance!

1.The interview will be one person after the other (one on one), but there may be a bit of a wait between your interviews (I think I had to wait about 30 min between my interviews).
2. No, the interviewers are only blind to your grades/MCAT score (in other words, they will have your amcas application but with all of your grades and MCAT score(s) taken out)
3. For this one I am not entirely sure. I didn't think to look over my secondary app before my interview.
4. It will vary. My first interview lasted 15-20 min but my second interview was >45 min.

Hope that helps and good luck on your interview!

Super helpful - thank you so much!

Does anyone know if you can gain New York residency and the in-state tuition rates after attending the first year as an out of state student?

Anyone know if Buffalo does silent rejections? Haven't heard anything since I was complete back in August.

Yes you can. I believe the only stipulation is that you have to live in an apartment or some other type of off campus housing.

Currently M1 here. Let me know if you have other questions!

1) Nope, not in the same room. Highly unlikely.

2) Usually they don't have an actual app in front of them when they interview, but they at least did read or remember some parts of our application and often bring these up. So the answer is basically no, it's not blind.

3) You probably don't need to re-read your secondary app for your interview. If your specialty of interest is ever brought up, just be honest and say "At this moment, I am interested in.... because..."

4) Heavily depends on each interviewer. Can be short like 20-30 min or long like 40+ min. Quality probably matters more, rather than having a short vs. long interview.

Yup, as far as I know, that is correct. Get an off-campus housing for a year or so and you should be good.

Not sure about this. There would be certainly some people who never hear back, but usually it's a random review that no one really knows much about.

Is anyone else interviewing February 25th? Also, for people that already interviewed, what hotel did you stay at? I'm trying to find a good hotel with a student rate, thanks 🙂

Complete since mid September... I really hope whatever process they use to "randomly" go through applications picks me soon.. I would really love to have the chance to interview here. Everyone should hear back by the end of March correct? that's what it says in the email about their process at least... but then how late do they interview until? May?

Are we supposed to receive a packet from the admissions prior to the II? I moved my II from early march to Feb 11 (so next wednesday) and still haven't received the packet. Can anyone tell me if there are any important info in the packet that I should be aware of, in case I don't get it by tomorrow/early next week?

You are supposed to receive a packet prior to your interview. The info in the packet only really relates to logistics of getting to the interview (a campus map, recommended hotels, etc.). I think the interview invitation email has all of the necessary info in terms of when and where the interview is and what you should bring (photo ID, passport photo).

Here is a link to the campus map that is included in the packet: http://www.buffalo.edu/content/dam/www/shared_assets/campus_maps/SouthCampus_bus-routes-opt.pdf

Buffalo isn't that bad. You could try to rent a house in one of the surrounding suburbs and commute to the med campus

Mr. Rosso told us on the II day that we can check the decision two weeks from the II day. So I guess we can put in our AAMC ID number in the UB website (where we could check our status) and find out the decision there?

What is the interview day like?

Super chill. It was one of the more enjoyable II that I've had thus far. We did tour in the morning, then Dean Severin did a 40 min-ish presentation about UB and downtown expansion (which is super cool btw), then lunch, then II with two people. I was one of the people who was finished early, and I was done by like 2:50pm.
People were really nice, Mr. Rosso is hilarious and very energetic during the tour (you'll see on the II day), and the II was pretty relaxed, just straightforward. Good luck!

i'm interviewing here this week? any advice from anyone that has interviewed there so far? and for anyone that is waiting to hear from buffalo, they only interview once a week, so don't lose hope

When I got the application is complete email it said: "Our last interview day of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2015. We do not fill our entire class until after that date." I'm confused though because I thought that all schools have to send a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class by March 15. Anyone know anything about this?

Anyone interview 2/11 and have their status change yet?
