hi guys! i have a Nov. 22nd interview, and i am flying in. i am wondering if it is hard to get a cab ride to the airport after i am done interviewing. Should i call ahead of time to make an appointment for pickup? which cab company do you suggest?

I would say in general, I haven't had trouble getting a taxi in a reasonable amount of time in Lexington except late on weekend nights. It won't hurt to call ahead, though I haven't used enough cabs to recommend one company in particular. There is also Uber (which I have used) and Lyft (which I have not), as well, and I believe both will take you to airport and may be a little cheaper.

I did this last year. Flew to Louisville, rented a car, stayed overnight in Lexington, and went back to the airport from my interview. It was a lot cheaper for me, and I had no issues.

I also did this last year (flew into Louisville). I would just make sure to give yourself plenty of time. I interviewed during snowpocalypse and traffic was a disaster. It took several hours to get to Lexington from Louisville.
I stayed in Lexington the night before and the night of my interview (did not fly out the same day), and the cost of the extra night of the hotel room and flying through Louisville was still cheaper than flying into Lexington and leaving the evening of interview day. Plus I got to hang out and see the town more.

Interviewed 11/1, was told to expect phone call 11/13 from 4-6pm, but didn't receive it. Was super bummed all night. But called the next day... Apparently my interviewer just forgot to call or something but finally hearing those sexy, sexy words "Yeah, you've been accepted" from the admissions office was totally worth it.

There are several good restaurants downtown, and a few that I have been to and can recommend. I like Saul Good and Village Idiot (both sort of pub food), Table Three Ten (small plates, charcuterie, seasonal menu), and Alfalfa (uses local products, good for vegetarians). A couple others that are close to downtown are Stella's Kentucky Deli (uses a lot of local products) and Nick Ryan's (steakhouse).

While we're on the subject of restaurants, I'll mention a few of my other favorites in town. Lexington has a fair number of good local places. For breakfast, I like Doodle's (standard breakfast fare, outdoor seating when the weather is nice), Great Bagel (bagels and bagel sandwiches), and Wild Eggs (if you are from Louisville you may recognize this one). There are also multiple places with good donuts, my favorite is probably Spalding Bakery.

There are a lot of restaurants near Good Samaritan Hospital, which you do some 3rd/4th year rotations at. I like Sav's Grill (West African, owner is super nice) and Han Woo Ri (Korean). Ellos is a good hole in the wall Mexican place. Dad's Favorites is a local deli; two locations (one of which is downtown) and only open for lunch M-F so a little hard to get to, but really good. Blue Door Smokehouse has excellent barbecue, highly recommended. Masala is my favorite Indian restaurant. Gumbo Ya Ya and Bourbon n'Toulouse both serve good Creole/Cajun food. La Petite Creperie is a casual French restaurant.

Mine didn't change until the next morning, and I also did not get a call that in the evening. Don't sweat it, just give them a call in the morning if they don't call you first

They also said that we wouldn't all know that early. If you remember, she said that we may not hear anything until December 20th. I didn't expect to hear until then. It's possible that they weren't able to discuss everyone's applications yet. I wouldn't worry about it too much just yet. She did say that we were a particularly strong group of applicants. Maybe she says that to every group.

I just called in the morning once they were open. I know my status didn't change that night, but hadn't checked it again prior to calling. If the committee meeting lasts for a while, you might not get updated as quickly as you might like

Also, guys, remember that there is more than one person doing the calling. Some adcom people may work down their list of applicants to call faster than others. Don't assume you aren't accepted until you get that phone call or call the admissions office!

Sorry, as a first year I don't have a listing of the most recent matches. To my knowledge, they don't make the list publicly available which is odd because people have told me it's good. Phlox is a 4th year I believe so maybe he/she has more info.
I also heard one faculty member mention the most recent average step 1 score and I was really impressed, but I don't want to post what was said because I only heard it from one person and I hesitate to post anything that I'm not 100% sure is correct. I agree it would be nice if this kind of info were available on the website!

I do have match lists from the past 3 years. To my knowledge, UK does not make these lists publicly available, so I would prefer not to post them here. Anyone who is interested is welcome to send me a PM, though!

I will caution that it is difficult to interpret a match list. It can be hard to know where good programs are for different specialties, which are malignant, etc. A program that is a powerhouse in one specialty may be mediocre in another, and even "big name" programs aren't going to be excellent in all specialties. The match list also leaves out some important information; it tells you where people end up but not what they wanted (like was that a student's 1st or 10th choice, did they match into specialty X but would have preferred specialty Y, were they a well qualified applicant but matched primarily based on location or family preference, and so on). I think it is still informative to have, but take it with a grain of salt.

I got that form and the other stuff you mentioned about a week after acceptance. The form was through regular mail

As far as I can remember, there was never an "acceptance package" last year. Just the form by snail mail for accepting the spot. Starting around early January they sent emails every two weeks or so called "Admitted Newsletter" that contained all the information we needed with timelines and other forms to fill out.

Anyone who has been put on hold and is in undergrad still--how did you send in your fall semester grades? Did you request an unofficial transcript from your school or was it more casual than that? I was just gonna send a screen shot to the kymed email, what do you guys think?
