2015-2016 Boston University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm on the wait list here and very much hoping to get in... I am writing an update letter/letter of intent and wasn't sure if I should just upload it to the application portal, address it to my interviewer, or address it to Dr. Witzburg. Does anyone know if BU has a preference?

For the tuition deposit, did you guys just mail it in or is there a way we can pay it online?

As far as I know, the only option is to mail in the deposit

Thanks! To those who have already sent in the deposit, did you also get an email confirming that the deposit was received? I sent mine a few days ago and haven't heard anything so far, although I did get a confirmation email for the MSR.

Writing a letter is a great idea and I think played a decisive role in my admission. I simply uploaded my letter as a PDF to the online portal. Previously, I had written a thank you email to my interviewer and I had noticed that she uploaded it to my portal, so I assume the portal is their preference.

I got an email within the same week confirming the tuition deposit.

Thank you! I had uploaded an update letter when my decision was deferred, but even then wasn't sure if it was the best way to go. I'll just do the same thing then 🙂

I need advice!

My admissions decision was deferred in January, so in early February I had uploaded a combined update letter/letter of intent to the BUSM portal. I was unfortunately wait listed in March, so I went to add another update letter/letter of interest today (since I completed my Masters thesis), but discovered that my initial letter was missing from the portal! This means BUSM never saw my letter, and I have no way of knowing if they construed this as a lack of interest in their school and placed me on the wait list as a result. What do I do?? Should I email my interviewer with both letters and explain the situation??

Yes

Hey everyone, graduating BU MAMS student here. I'll be moving back to FL at the end of June and would be subletting my apartment for July-August (lease can be renewed by new tenant for the next academic year). It's a 2 bedroom apartment (current roomate is another MAMS student) in a gated community, 2 minutes walk away from BUMC, building laundry facilities, centrally located on a main street with lots of cafes and restaurants nearby, all buses to downtown/chinatown/Tufts can be caught right outside of the gates. PM for more info!

Just withdrew- I'll be going to Northwestern. Another really tough call, but I wish you guys all the best!!

How does withdrawing work for BU? The only email I can find of theirs is an email that only can send out emails. Do I send a message in the message center on the myApplication website?

I would just email the admissions office

I am selling an entire apartment's worth of furniture for $1000. Everything is in almost new/clean condition. Near BUMC. PM for details

Does anyone know where the details for the white coat ceremony are? I can't seem to find it for this year. Thanks!

I couldn't find anything specific to this year's white coat ceremony, but last year's white coat ceremony was on August 3, 2015 which was also the first day of classes according to BUSM's 2015-2016 Academic Calendar. The 2016-2017 Academic Calendar says the first day of classes are August 1, 2016 so I am guessing that is when the white coat ceremony will be. Also, as for location, last year's was held on Talbot Green, the patch of grass right in front of the main med school building.

Thanks! My parents are doing that thing that parents do best and peppering me with questions about it lol

Yeah, it's August 1st, and they moved the move in date for the MSR to the weekend before (July 30th and 31st I believe) to accommodate. They told us at second look.

How does one get their tuition deposit back if you withdraw at this point?

Does anyone know how things are looking for WL applicants this year? On this thread it looks like quite a few people were withdrawing, but I heard elsewhere that BU was oversubscribed this year with their acceptances...

They just emailed accepted students offering a scholarship for people to defer for a year because they're oversubscribed....looks like there probably won't be much waitlist movement

An accepted friend of mine confirmed this. He said in the email that they apparently have 200 acceptances for the 180 spots

Ugh so it's even worse than last year! Since I looked through last year's thread and there was no mention of an e-mail like this and even then, there was very little waitlist movement 🙁

Did they say if they are going to reject us waitlisters soon? I need the closure.
They are oversubscribed this year (250 people accepted for 180 spots) so there will not be any waitlist movement this year. That's probably all the closure they will offer until classes start :/

I'm wondering if anyone can provide some insight/ information about the interview style.
I'm aware that it is 1 interview that is 45-60 mins long. (please correct me if I'm wrong).

But do they ask ethical questions? (I'm sorry if this question is not allowed - I'm not aware of SDN rules, so please disregard this question if it interferes with any policies!)

I think you may have better responses in the new thread. My interview at Boston was a totally casual conversation, about me and my app and just random subjects. I never got an ethical question in any of the 6 med schools interviews that I had actually.
