2015-2016 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Denied from CT. nothing from UT. Interesting, I thought those came at the same time

Nope, there are separate committees for each program.

On another note, I've been complete since 7/16 and still nothing: no hold, no word at all. I am a UT reapplicant so I don't know if that means my application is reviewed differently? Getting antsy! Love love love these programs.

Even though the admissions decisions are made completely independently, it seems like for a lot of people that decisions are being released to them around the same time for both programs. So maybe you'll hear something later today.

Yeah, I received UT and CT decisions a week apart.

Anyone hear anything about the admissions review process for MSTP?

I was complete early second week of august... just get back to me CASE!

Rejected this morning (only applied to UT). Complete 7/20, OOS LizzyM ~72

Rejected UT and CT as well. Good luck everyone!

Complete 7/15 for CT and UT.

Complete and utter silence on both fronts... but at least I haven't been rejected!

The interview day was AMAZING! I love Case even more than I did before, if that's even possible. It was so chill, everyone was so relaxed and friendly. When we were on the tour, like every student we passed in the hallways waved at us and wished us good luck. Everyone just looked so happy to be there. And the admissions people were great, so enthusiastic and helpful.

And the IQ session I sat in on was awesome! They started the session by having everyone share something with the group, like something they were struggling with, or an accomplishment or something. It's so great to see how supportive the environment was, they kind of had this "we're all in this together" attitude.

Oh, and I got to pet a dog that we met during our tour, so obviously that was the highlight of my day. And I didn't puke! Came awfully close during the first presentation though lol.

The interviews themselves were also very relaxed, I think they went well, but I'm a horrible judge of these kinds of things so I guess I'll just have to wait and see! I don't know when I'll hear a decision exactly, I forgot to ask until I was walking out and the girl I asked didn't really know. The next few weeks are going to be torture! I really really really hope I get accepted here!

Why were you afraid you were going to puke? Haha

Did you have a faculty and student interview?

Is sitting in on the IQ session part of interview day?

Good luck! I hope you get in 🙂

I've been feeling really sick the past three days, and my suite mate has the stomach flu, so I was convinced I was going to start puking this morning. So glad I made it through haha, now I just have to make it through a six hour shift at work.

I had a faculty interview at 2:00, then a student interview immediately after at 3:00. Because both of my interviews were in the afternoon, I got to sit in on a lecture and an IQ session during the break in the morning. If you have a morning faculty interview (like 9:30/10:00, bug your student interview will definitely be in the afternoon), you might not get to sit in on an IQ session. But I think most people got to sit in on one.

My first official rejection today. I've got 7 other IIs, so looking on the bright side! Best of luck to all those still in the running - Case is an excellent school. 🙂

Oh, sorry to hear about the stomach flu. Hope you don't get it/feel better soon!

I'm really excited about the IQ's so hopefully I get to sit in on one 🙂

@AJMicro @Lannister
Interviewed today too! AJmicro-- it's pretty obvious who you are from your username, Lannister-- not as clear but still, great meeting you two.

I don't know how I'd feel meeting SDNers in real life... especially in an interview situation

Hahaha I was talking to someone today and he said he interviewed at GT and didn't really like it, and I brought up the Jalby thread and felt like a crazy person for admitting I use SDN.

lol, I'd be like "I KNOW THAT EXACT THREAD! LET ME PULL IT UP ON MY SDN APP!"

"felt like" a crazy person... riight... 😛

Hahaha okay fine maybe I AM a crazy person. Whatever. Aren't we all?

Why are you guys trying to steal my identity? 😛
If i remember correctly i think one hears back approx. a month from when they interviewed. But I am not too sure.

From obsessively reading last year's thread it seemed like people who interviewed first week of October heard back around the 30th. I hope that's the case! I can't wait a month lol

lol, I'm reading this year's thread to prepare to next cycle, way ahead of you in the obsession game 😛

If I'm interviewing for CT and UT in the same week (Monday and Wednesday, respectively), would it be appropriate to ask a CCLCM student host to host me for Sunday and Monday nights?

I'd rather save some money by forgoing a hotel room, but I'll certainly get one if it's discourteous to ask for two nights of hosting.

Is it possible to switch from UT to CT after submission (before matriculation or after)?

No. They are separate programs that undergo separate reviews. You had to indicate which one you want to apply to or both on the submission. Then you had to fill out different essays for each.

I got an interview to both UT and CT yesterday morning, but when I scheduled the interview, only UT dates showed up. None of the days on the CT calendar had any availability. So I went ahead and just scheduled the UT interview to lock the position, but does anyone know what's going on with the CT interview date reservation? And would I be able to get the two interviews close in time to each other? Not trying to travel more than I have to haha.

Rejected Saturday morning at 6am 🙁 So mad I wasted so much time on that secondary app... Good luck everyone!

does you status on iapply change with a II or reject? 7/15 complete and haven't heard a peep

Yeah for II you will either get an email saying you got an interview, or it will tell you that you have a status change and to check iapply. Not sure how rejections work.

II for UT and CT this past week! This will be my first interview so I'm so stoked!! Also @buffblackguy you have to call the admissions department to schedule your interview for CT. The number should be in your invitation letter on the portal. It seems there are plenty of dates open in November for the UT track, so if you're still waiting don't worry! Best of Luck 🙂

Rejected sometime this afternoon for both UT and CT via portal =( no e-mail, although I had just sent them an update a few hours earlier and got a receipt for that. Disappointed with this rejection but best of luck to everyone!

Complete date?

How does this whole rolling admissions thing work? I've been complete since 8/18 and people who completed after me with better and worse stats than mine have already been rejected.

There are two possibilities:

1) It means that you have been passed over but not rejected outright. Basically, they think you could be successful at Case, but are not their first choice. They MAY interview you if their first choice sends an email stating that he got accepted to his dream school and is turning down the II at Case.

2) They sort people by stats or publications or URM status or something and people with 40 MCATs or first-author Nature papers jump to the top of the pile for an instant interview, while everyone else has to wait

Ah, so there' a diamond in the rough aspect to it. You're probably right with #1. My stats are average but I've got like 12 publications and a letter from a well known Case alumnus.
