2015-2016 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nice, thanks. I guess I can assume rejection because people who submitted after me received II.

Have some confidence! No medical school goes strictly in order of completion date and never looks back. You could still get an II months from now.

Quick Q: I see that I am complete and that emory has an "email" listed in their Communication tab to that effect, but I never received the complete email. Is this normal? are they meaning it was a message rather than an email? thanx

The same thing happened to me, I'm not too worried about it though. If the portal says you're complete, you're complete.

I cannot access the secondary, when I click on the link the page simply doesn't load. I've tried different browsers, any advice?

Congrats what interview dates are open and complete date?
I was complete July 22nd I believe. interview dates that showed for me were sept 25th, oct 2nd, oct 16th, oct 23rd.

Hi all,
Does anyone know how receptive Emory is regarding ITA emails? Thanks in advance!

This might be a silly question but is it frowned upon to choose staying in a hotel hotel over the student host option?

I hope not I always stay in hotels

I don't see why it would be. In most cases you're better off since you can probably find a hotel that is very close/walkable to the medical school, and not have to worry about making travel arrangements or relying on public transportation from the student host's apartment to campus.

I interviewed here recently and was very impressed. They have the most attractive campus I have ever seen and the admissions staff and dean were super friendly. The interview day was about 15 people. Both interviews were pretty relaxed. I especially liked my solo interviewer. I was worried about the group interview but I wouldn't be worried at all if I had to do it again. I think it is just an easy way for you to be interviewed by an additional three people without taking an excessive amount of time. Based on my experience I don't think they were explicitly looking at group dynamics as there aren't many opportunities for the co-interviewees to interact with one another other than by listening attentively to one another. As far as financial aid, they told us that need based grants are up to 35K/yr and that the only merit money is for Woodruff scholars who get four years of tuition with a stipend. There are four Woodruff scholars per class.

II!
OOS student, LizzyM 73 with a huge MCAT>gpa split, complete less than a week after primaries were released by AMCAS (first week of July).

There were several October dates still open towards the end of the month, for anyone wondering.

I am SO incredibly excited to be interviewing at this school. I know several college friends who went there, and they seem very happy with the school. Cannot wait!
The interview day sounds very informative...packed to the gills with info sessions, tours, interviews, and other things. I cannot wait!

Also, just pointing out...I honestly thought I'd been passed over by this school. It has been almost 3 whole months since I submitted my primary (about 1wk short of it) and many people complete well after me have gotten IIs. It just goes to really show that nothing in this process is linear, and that no news is still good news, guys!

II! (apparently someone canceled and I took their spot!) thanks @Porcn for the interview insight. Anyone else have insight into the interview process? Especially the 3 on 3 interview. I am super nervous for that one.

Congrats! When were you complete?

I interviewed here in September and the day went like this. Check in very early where they have coffee and cookies and obviously Coca Cola products which remain there throughout the day. Then you'll go and get the emory presentation and get your schedule. Here you'll find out if you're interviewing in the morning or afternoon. If you're in the morning you'll go back the the area with coffee and cookies where you'll wait to be called for your group or individual interview (order depends on what you're assigned). If you're in the afternoon you'll do the tour. The tour is great it's both the school and Grady hospital.

My single interview was very conversational and easy going. As for the group interview, for me I know it went poorly. I let the stress get to me too much and I didn't really prepare for it right. Just make sure you listen to the other peoples answers and don't compare yourself. Their answers could sound amazing to you but that doesn't mean they're "better" than yours. It's usually just because you're hearing a new answer. I didn't go first for the first question, got really intimidated by the answer of the person who answered before me and got nervous so my first answer wasn't as great as it could've been and so that kind of set the tone for me. So just be relaxed and don't let the pressure of everyone looking at you get to you and you should be fine!

I'm sorry your nerves got to you during your interview. Group situations like that can be very intimidating. But keep your head up, you may have performed better than you think. 🙂

Coca-Cola... Hmmm. How much do you really care about health, Emory? 😉

I am going to be in Atlanta for a job interview and Miami for a med school interview....

Would it be in bad taste to contact emory to inquire about getting an interview at the same time while I will be in the region since I am coming from far west coast?

I asked a similar question and they responded with a friendly email asking me to update my portal with the information
