2015-2016 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That data is hard to find. The majority of accepted students (top candidates) will accept other offers (yield 20-30%), many II on hold will withdraw, and many offered a waitlist spot will decline. If they interview 675 and say 300 remove themselves from consideration they could admit 250 of 375 applicants. But no one knows these numbers. If 400 withdraw they could admit 250 of 275. My best guess is schools know how the numbers shake out and don't want to waste their time interviewing more students than they need to to fill the class. Low yield schools interview more students than high yield schools.

Ah I see, thank you for your help!

During the interview, the admissions staff was very adamant about us not sending thank you letters to them. But does that apply to thank-you emails to the interviewers? For those of you that interview/ got accepted, did you not send any thank you letters at all?

Accepted without any thank-yous. Funnily enough, this was also the only school where I received thank you letters back from my interviewers (after acceptance).

For those who do not have an II but have not yet been rejected (i'm not sure if any rejections have even been sent out?), are you planning on completing and submitting the required paperwork and profiles? I just checked and the due date is March 1st. I'm not really interested in taking the time to do so as I have more or less given up on my chances at Emory. That said, i'm very open to peer pressure to combat my laziness on this front.

Nah, I doubt the email means anything. So many people received if and if they were only sending it to people they want to invite for interviews, they would have just sent us a II. They almost definitely will not be sending IIs after next week, so if I do by some miracle receive one I will have time to fill out the forms anyways.

@nataliekayx01 Yeah, my dad filled out his section already and was like "wtf? You aren't even accepted at this place yet and you have to fill it out??". Yes father. Welcome to the wacky world of medical school admissions.

Yeah i knew it didn't mean i was special or anything, just wondering if it was worth filling out. But knowing that the last interview date is before the due date is super helpful. Buh bye Emory. Buh bye Hotlanta.

I'd love to hear some opinions from any current students or people who have interviewed! Is there anything about Emory that seriously impressed you while you were there? What about things that you didn't like so much?

Impressed by the campus, and by Grady

A noncompetitive and very friendly environment in which I immediately felt at home. Grady is so diverse and will be a great place to gain experience. Close proximity to the CDC provides good opportunity for research. Pass/Fail for the first two years. The Discovery period... I can keep going 🙂

My impression of Emory.

Beautiful area, on the same campus as the undergrad campus and the CDC. Thus there are facilities like a gym that can be used by med students. The medical school building is beautiful, just google it. The main Emory Hospital is on the campus as well, and is very fancy looking. Grady Hospital, which is about a 20 minute drive away, is MASSIVE. It is a tall building in a more urban location. You can tell that they get a wide range of patients and pathology, and thus it certainly provides excellent clinical education.

The students all seemed very very friendly and inclusive. The admissions staff was hilarious and nice as well. The interview day overall was very low stress (I know you will still stress anyways..).

The surrounding area seemed very nice, like a forest. Near the campus there seemed to be a variety of restaurants. Traffic did seem pretty bad, even near campus. I know that there are no med student housing options on campus, so I am not positive where students live, and how much it costs. That brings me to my next point, cost. It seems as if there are many financial aid options to help you pay for school. I forget the numbers, but I think they said the rewards varied from 2K-35K or something like that. They say total cost of attendance is around 80K, with a pretty liberal budget for living expenses. But it seems worth it for the education.

Hope this helps, and I hope I get accepted. Lol

Can someone who interviewed here confirm whether or not Emory is P/F? Do they still have letter grades and test every Monday?
We NEVER have Monday tests! That would suck. Tests are on Fridays, every 2-3 weeks during healthy human (beginning of school year until Thanksgiving), then every 4-5 weeks during human disease (Thanksgiving until the end of preclinicals). It depends on the length of the module. But yes, it's true P/F (technically "satisfactory/unsatisfactory") with no letter grades.

The last day for acceptances from Emory is March 7th. Meaning you would have to interview before then (within the next two weeks). Which means they probably have 2 or 3 more interview days left. Which means they are *probably* finished giving out IIs, unless someone drops out last minute, in which case they'll most likely try to give it to an IS student.

I'm not an expert here, but I think chances of receiving an II at this point are pretty low. Sorry 🙁

I was told I was interviewing in their last week, and I am interviewing Monday.

Does anyone know where most Emory medical students live? I am looking on the "graduate housing" website and it seems like the apartments around the campus are fairly expensive! I'm hoping to have my own place while in medical school, but that seems like it might be unreasonable with the cost of rent.

Most students in M1-M2 year live in apartments around campus. The most popular one is Post Briarcliff. Highland Square had a decent number of students there as well. Emory Point wasn't open when I was M1 so people may also live there now too. In M3-M4 years students seem to spread out through the city. People live in Virginia Highland, Old Fourth Ward, Midtown, Decatur, Little 5 Points, etc. It's definitely possible to have your own place, but that will be at least 1000+ a month for some of the newer places. It's possible to find a 1br/1ba for under 1000 but it'll take some searching and may not have some of the amenities that the larger complexes have.

Silence since September here. I haven't even received the financial aid emails everyone talked about. I'm guessing it's a rejection from Emory. It's OK, though. I'm not even mad.

I was thinking about making the class of 2020 FB page, but unfortunately I cannot make a group without adding at least one person. So if one of you all would like to help me out just send me a message and we can get this thing started!

Hi all, I just joined SDN. I was interviewed at Emory early January, and was waiting for them to respond. Nothing yet, checked my account but no new tab for Admission Acceptance. Anyone with good news today? Thanks

They usually update the portal on Tuesday sometime generally in the early afternoon. Nothing up for me yet today.

Hi! Does anyone know when news about the Woodruff Scholarship is announced? Thanks!
