2015-2016 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks!
Submitted my primary June 3 so was processed by July 1,
I submitted my secondary on July 9. I didn't check up on the date it went under review.
Right now the status is "Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via the preferred email address on file with AMCAS...."
Received the II on July 30

Thanks to you wonderful folks on SDN, I was able to look up the secondary prompts and have my answers to them prepared. Now I've paid my $125 and I'm prepping to submit this secondary soon. Here's to a successful application cycle for us SDNer's!

II just now! Complete 7/17, been at "your file is under review," no hold. Only bad news, they scheduled it for the day after my other interview, which is about 2 hours from home. But thankfully I live in the DMV area and can metro quickly to GW. Should I reschedule? Or just super mentally prepare and knock them out? I'll probably get home around 7 or so from my first interview, and GW's starts at 9:15

Congrats! I would say knock them out!! Why go through the hassle of rescheduling and giving them an opportunity to doubt your interest in the school! Not saying they will.. You could even say during the interview that you are so interested in the school that you wanted to grab the first opportunity even if it was right after another interview!!

Welp, placed on hold for re-review. A bit disappointed, but oh well.

Seems like the majority of applicants go to that phase, at least that's what it sounds like reading this thread. I've been in that stage for 2 weeks or so now. And hey, look on the bright side, you either share the name with an incredibly awesome individual or you are awesome enough to understand how awesome amy schumer is. Either way, you're doing something right 🙂

I was complete mid July, still says under review, no hold. Not sure if it's a good/bad thing !

Haha, I just made the account today and happened to finish watching a comedy special by her.

FINALLY got the "on hold for re-review" after 150 years of them "having all of my materials". I was complete 7/9.. But no II yet 🙁

Overcame my laziness and grabbed a couple of quotes for others who were wondering about the hold status from last year's thread:

Submitted 6/30. Placed on hold 7/18.
Seems like one week after being placed on hold, people receive IIs...
Has anyone not gotten an II?

I'm a reapplicant here and tbh I don't think it has anything to do with priority. Last year my app was put on hold relatively quickly and I never got a II. This year I've just been on "complete" for about a week and half. Don't read into it too much, GW interviews many and they start early. Just my .02

Yes, and also the GW hold is a blind hold. Just bc you're on hold doesn't guarantee that you will get an II...was on hold for 2-3 months last cycle

I might be wrong but it looks like a lot of people here who got II were on hold first. I didn't get an e-mail when they first put me on hold so maybe some people who got II didn't even notice that they were on hold temporarily.

I have been on hold for a week now and still no news 🙁 has anyone on hold recently received an II?

I'm interviewing at georgetown in September. I've been on hold at GW since the beginning of July. Is it worth it to email them that I'll be in the area in September? I have heard of people doing this from browsing the other threads. Or should I just patiently keep waiting?

I was on hold for almost three months last year before getting an II, don't worry too much about the hold status

Complete 6/30, hold 7/3, still on hold (~7 weeks). The wait is much worse than I thought it would be and it's still early.

Just got an II this morning!! OOS and was previously on hold.

Yeah I got put on hold too, keep your head high though!! A few people here were on hold and got a II a month later, hang in there and send updates! 🙂

If I was complete 7/10, OOS LizzyM < 68, with a hold status for about 1.5-2 months now, does it look pretty grim for me?

Conclusion: it's a crapshoot.

My post form another thread that generated a lot of conversation on this topic. You called it crapshoot I call it luck. Good Luck to everyone!!

As in everything else it is a 80/20 rule. 80% luck and 20% MCAT, GPA and ECs.

80% may be an exaggeration on my part but when you take into account the "Holistic" approach and "Diversity" into the picture, one has to be lucky to make it to the II stage and then of course things are 80/20. 80 being how you do in the interview and 20 lucky to make it under the "Diversity" quota. This is all keeping in mind 80% of the applicants are well qualified.

Just checked my status and I've been put on hold.
Anyone know historically how often this re-review ever happens? Or should I count this school out?

Well I've been in hold for just over a month now so ... Hang tight!

Just got put on hold for re-review today. Looks like a waiting game from here on out! Fingers crossed for yall!

^ditto except I wasn't complete until 7/31 due to my committee letter, so I'm not worried about it yet! 🙂

According to last year's posts, most HOLDS don't turn into any II's. Very few do, but it can't hurt to stay optimistic!

Have been skimming my status message for a while now...just realized tonight that I am on hold for re-review...For how long this has been I have no idea lol. Fingers crossed this turns into a II
And you don't get an email about that, right? You just need to check that in the portal yourself?

it seems like most applications get put on hold. but the truth is only a small percentage of total applications get interviews anyways, so it makes sense that very few holds turn into IIs?

On hold. Submitted 7/23. I feel grateful to have one II under my belt, but the other MILLION schools I'm waiting to hear back from are making me lose it 🙁

EDIT: got an II from another school today, so that really helps with all the silent treatment. still keeping fingers crossed for GW and good luck to everyone with their other schools too 🙂

Put on hold today too. Got good news from Pitt and Mayo yesterday so that makes it a little better but I would LOVE to be in DC so still hoping for some love from GW!!!

Regarding the prompt: Please provide the Admissions Committee with a brief summary of your activities, academics, employment or other occupations to account for full-time activity (approx. 30-40 hours/week) for the 2015-2016 application cycle, or from the point of application through matriculation in 2016. (750 characters), if I'm unable to fit a succinct full-text explanation of the time, should I just abbreviate resume style?

on hold here too. Not sure if thats good or bad.

Just checked my status and I'm on hold, no idea how long that's been the case. Nothing better than more waiting!

I have had to do that for other schools. I'd imagine giving them a complete picture of your activities is more important than weaving it into a nice narrative. But i'm just another premed, so who knows 🙂

You get any love back? lol

On hold for RR.

P.S. Everyone needs to chill out

I had the same problem, and bulleted! I kept it consistent with resume style, putting commas and periods in the same places on each line. GWU gave me an II so bulleting shouldn't be a problem.

my status is "your file is under review".... any idea if this is good or bad! 😵

Congrats on the IIs!!
I still have the "complete" status. No "under review" or "hold" or anything. Complete 7/31. Hopefully they just haven't gotten to me yet.
