2015-2016 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not sure if this is of any help to you but last year 1150 people were interviewed, 320 were accepted and 178 matriculated, so I assume they pull a decent amount from the waitlist

When you say 320 were accepted, are you including the waitlist then? And thanks, that's encouraging!

Those are the statistics from the US world news subscription, I would assume that's including those off the waitlist

Interviewed here last week and my impression of the school and surrounding area is overwhelmingly positive. Keeping my fingers crossed for some good news! The interviews were very laid back and I felt like everyone involved in the interview process tried to put you at ease. Talking to some second year students was informative and made me want to go here even more!

Joining the conversation pretty late here, but interviewed 8/25 and wait listed 10/15.

Is anyone a current student (maybe M3 or M4) that could advise whether or not a car is necessarily for rotations in the clinical years? I know that the GW hospital is right next to Ross Hall, but I saw that the affiliated hospitals are located throughout the area and some seem like a car would be necessary. Also, do you have to do rotations at affiliated hospitals?

At my interview, they told me that cars would indeed be essentially necessary for rotations during clinical years. Sometimes you need to be at the hospital by 5 and the metro isn't even running yet

Thank you! I was so nervous during my interview I completely forgot to ask that.

How about for M1 and M2? Do people usually have cars living in foggy bottom? I have a crew cab Ford f350 with a short bed, so I'm worried about parking.

Don't think it's necessary for M1 and M2, but I could be wrong

From my student host and the med students I talked to a car is not necessary in first and second year. Because most people live in Foggy Bottom, and everything is so close. Apparently there are a couple students who get by without cars in 3rd and 4th year, but they're the exception.

bah I got a call from george washington university this morning and I thought they were going to give me an interview invite but they just wanted to talk to me about their mph program.......😡😡

A few questions that I didn't think to ask during my interview, but was hoping that maybe someone else was wise enough to ask or if a current student knows, it would be very helpful and much appreciated 🙂

1. Are exams given as block exams (all at once every few months), or continuously over the course of a semester on a weekly basis?

2. Do - or can - instructors give pop quizzes?

3. Are written and/or practical exams cumulative? If so, in which classes are they cumulative?

4. What percentage of the lecturers are guest lecturers vs. on the staff?

5. What percentage of the lecturers are PhDs, and what percentage are physicians?

Thank you!!

LizzyM of 78 and placed on alternate list? Either they're practicing yield protection or I'm screwed.

You'd think that if they weren't going to consider me, they wouldn't even have made me fly over for an interview...

I really love the school too and thought my ECs demonstrated good fit, but I guess not :/

So bummed out...

Yeah thats true. They may be waiting for April 1st where they can see all your acceptances. If you're accepted to Harvard, Yale or some other top 20 schools they know it's no sense wasting an acceptance since you'll likely go elsewhere.

With your numbers I'm sure you'll have many schools clawing over you before long!

Interviewed late September, waitlisted last week 🙁
This stinks! I heard they waitlist many many interviewees...
Hang in there everyone!! Fingers crossed...

That stinks, I'm sorry. GW interviews almost 7 people per seat -- there are definitely a lot of waitlisted people . Other schools have a better yield with interviewing 2-4 people per available seat.

I wonder what % of interviewees they accept outright vs what % of acceptances come off the waitlist. I know these numbers aren't available, but it would be interesting to see. I have the US News and World Report subscription, so I can see that they sent out 320 acceptances last year for 180 seats or what not - but it isn't broken down by waitlist, etc.

That's very kind of you to say. 🙂 thank you.
Only bad news so far, but keep me in your thoughts! 🙂

Ya I think GWU waitlist a whole lot of people. Also, living in DC is very expensive, but if that is the only school you get into you really have no choice but to wish you marry rich or something (ok kidding maybe). There is a whole food right nearby, and whole food only opens in rich areas.

Me too. Also, is the "alternative list" lower than the wait list?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I was curious to see if anyone else who interviewed the week of October 5th-9th has heard back about a decision yet. It's been just about 8 weeks and my portal still has the same "Thank you for interviewing with us" status as of this morning.

Nope, not yet! We technically have another week. I think we just have to hang in there for a little bit longer.
At least that's what I keep telling myself

I just interviewed on Tuesday and we were told 10-12 weeks so I'm not sure if that is their new timeline for everyone or just us.

Anyone who already got accepted and can comment on the amount of time you have to accept the offer? I'm worried it will only be a short time and I'm waiting on other schools.

How long do you have to accept the offer?? Major congrats!
They gave me a date on the email, I believe it was 2 weeks after I got the email, and there was no deposit required, which was nice. Thanks 😀

But you can hold as many acceptances as you want until April 30th, which is especially good for people like me who are sitting on waitlists and want to see what comes of them.

Does anyone know if George Washington is receptive to ITA emails? And can anyone who has an II give me an idea of the available dates? I'm interviewing at Georgetown in early January and would love to coordinate the scheduling, if I were so fortunate...
