2015-2016 Johns Hopkins University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If I'm to be rejected one day late because of a snow day (and thereby be put at great unease and inconvenience), can I request to be consciously uncoupled from my acceptance hopes? I've been perusing esteemed publications like Daily Mail and Star Journal, and I believe that conscious uncoupling represents the future of school-applicant path-splitting.

I'd like to put forth a petition, and if you would like to sign with your name and AMCAS number, please PM me and I will happily oblige.

Best,

Still waiting on interview/rejection invite, but I am thinking of withdrawing my application (invites/acceptances elsewhere & limited money for travel expenses). Anyone know how to withdraw? Don't see an option for this online.

Interview invite tonight!! Date is next week, though, but 1) getting off work that quickly will be pretty tough and 2) flights are through the roof that soon. Does anyone know if you can call and reschedule for a later date in the next week or two.

You can ask for a reschedule for sure.

I don't think decisions will come out today.. last batch of decisions were sent out starting at 10 am est right?

congratulations! when were you complete?

They're not technically late on their Feb1st promise unless they don't less us know on Monday. I did expect them to be a little early because the way it was said at the interview was: "No later than early February (but there's a great chance for late January), but really no later than early February (but really it's gonna be late January we just don't want you to get your hopes up, so it could be early February).

So I ignored their advice and got my hopes up 🙂

I think December decisions were released after 1 in the afternoon... So, we could still hear today. But it's possible the snowstorm delayed things slightly.

Congrats guys, am so jealous!!! Any international student acceptances?

Approx how many more acceptances will they give out? Am I interviewing for waitlist at this late point in the cycle?

I believe that the process is broken up into 3 batches..you're in the third batch of interviews and are not interviewing for a waitlist, but have a good shot at being accepted, as they accept from all three batches.

The way I've read about it and the way Ms. Mazza explained it on interview day was alternate means you have a chance, but they've never exhausted the alternate to proceed into the waitlist. Unless they randomly changed this protocol ...
Did we ever figure out whether this is indeed the case? I'm still curious to know if alternate and wait mean different things, and if they do, which one is better.

Placed on alternate list. Just a counter to all the acceptances above. 🙂

Accepted last night too! I don't know about y'all, but this process has been so full of emotions for me, and it's not even over yet. For me, this acceptance came after a lot of not so great news, so no matter what news you hear, I think it's so important to be proud to the efforts that led you to being considered.. y'all are amazing

Congrats on those accepted; super stoked for y'all 😀

Just got an II past midnight...that was a pleasant surprise! Certainly makes up for the Penn rejection earlier in the week.

To the rest of y'all waiting on IIs: they'll come, I promise!

Edit: grammar lolz

inevitable question - stats and complete date?

Congrats to those accepted! I was recently put on the wait-list. Definitely disappointed but trying to remaining hopeful.

Put on alternate list. Still glad to have a chance 🙂
About the alternate v waitlist..I'm wondering what the difference is too!

Who's going to second look weekend?? I'm so excited!
Super excited. Spouse and I just booked our tickets yesterday morning ten minutes before the itinerary was sent out 😛

Second look is April 14-17 BTW

Also accepted!!!! Still in shock -- congrats to everyone else!

From my brief impression during my interview day, I felt like the students were more stressed/seemed to study more than other med schools I visited -- can anyone comment on whether or not this is normal or if I just stayed with some particularly stressed hosts?

I talked to a student who said one of the reasons why he chose Hopkins was the ability to "focus a lot on med school" so I think they study a bit. It IS Hopkins though so you have to bust your butt haha

Just got my rejection notification. Hey, it was a long shot. No hard feelings. 😀
Good luck to those who still have interviews, and congratulations to those who were accepted!

I was rejected on Friday. Hard blow as it was my top choice and legacy. Did anyone interview on 11/5? Looks like I'll have to reapply in a few cycles and just want to know what they are looking for, and I met some great candidates on my interview day!
